It’s gorgeous! I’ve done this drive on weekends for fun or when family/friends visit from the mainland. Drive the island in a counter-clockwise direction to avoid the most traffic!
I lived here for a decade, literally came back September 25th 2018....i would get on the number 1 OR 1L Bus....i lived in kaimuki!!!.....miss waking up to this!!!
🌴 Aloha!~ Tom McLaughlin 🌈 I am very happy and thankful that you have been watching this video every year since 3 years ago. 😂😄👍🥂 Mahalo Nui Loa for watching!! ^^ 🤙🤙
Scenes like this always makes me miss Hawaii. Hay Hawaii John, have you ever thought about doing picture in picture? Two thirds of the camera windshield and a passenger's camera capturing the remaining view. I would've liked to get a look at stairway to heaven on the way over.
I used to live on Kahuhipa St, Kaneohe and my roommate was the primary surveyor who guided the tunnel (25:14) through the mountain. Damn I miss Kaneohe. Beautiful place and people.
Aloha!~ Brent Taylor Art, Please tell your friend that I am grateful for creating a beautiful tunnel. When the virus is over, I will film the Kaneohe area for you and for those who miss Kaneohe. Mahalo for watching!!
Thanks for the drive John! I didn't realize the H3 was elevated going up to the tunnel and coming back down. Wow, that was a lot of engineering and building.
The H3 took 37 years to build, including planning and getting funding. When it finally opened in 1997, the final cost was $1.3 Billion... Or $80 million per mile!
Interstate H-4 was an idea once proposed for the city of Honolulu in the late 1960s. Interstate H-4 was to provide traffic relief for the congested Interstate H-1 through the downtown area of the capital city. From the west I-H4 was to begin at I-H1/Exit 18 interchange with Hawaii 92. Turning southeasterly, the freeway was to follow the Honolulu waterfront to a point somewhere between Atkinson Drive and Waikiki. At that location, Interstate H-4 was proposed to turn northeast to the Kapiolani interchange (Exit 25B) along Interstate H-1. As one can surmise, the idea of a freeway along the waterfront through Downtown was wildly unpopular and thus never realized.
Good to know that there is the H3 to get to the Kaneohe side. I always get a bad feeling driving up and down the Pali Hwy, it is old and maybe someday could collapse.
🌴 Aloha!~ Mark Stewart 🌈 I used a GoPro camera and attached the flat adhesive mount to the windshield. 👍 4K|30|Wide, Protune On, Auto Shutter, Auto WB, GoPro Color, Medium Sharpness, Min ISO100, Max ISO1600 👍 There is a better quality video of this Freeway recently, so please watch this as well. ua-cam.com/video/uNid9MCWNSc/v-deo.html 😄 Mahalo for watching!! ^^ 🤙
@@HawaiiJohn Thank you for the information and reply to my question, I really appreciate it! As far as the GoPro flat adhesive mount you use, is this mounted inside you windshield or outside? I am using a mount inside my windshield just right of my rear view mirror, and I am wondering how you avoid capturing the hood in your vehicle in your videos. In my GoPro driving videos, the hood of my car is always in the video.
I mount it in the same place as you and I also have the same problem. When I'm editing, I enlarge the video a little bit so that the hood of my car isn't visible. That's why I always shoot in 4K to minimize the loss of video quality that occurs when the video is enlarged. 🤙
Aloha!~ Rahsaun77, I glad you like my videos. Here is a video that started driving from MCBH. ua-cam.com/video/zYpolx4fuGQ/v-deo.html I think you will like it. Mahalo for watching!! ^^
Thanks for the ride. We avoid H3 because of superstition, don't want any bad karma to ruin the trip. Still waiting for the virus to go away and make trip 25, that was canceled in April 2020. Thanks, Richard Sckickling Pennsylvania
🌴 Aloha!~ richard schickling, There are people who heard strange sounds when passing through this tunnel late at night. So I tried driving this place late at night, but I couldn't hear anything except the sound of a car running. Mahalo for watching!! ^^ 🤙
