    Ugh. I relate so much to this.
    In the role of a dysfunctional home, I matched the term 'outsider child'. I would go outside and maladaptive daydream for over half of my childhood. Anything else was overstimulating.
    The dad telling the kid to go apologize reminded me of when I tried to get my mom to leave dad so she wouldnt get hurt anymore. He blamed me for them almost divorcing, and my mom solidified it by getting back with him the very next day.
    So everytime something traumatic happened, I felt like a version of me died, and I had to come back and be something else. Repeatedly it was like I was trying to find the mask/version of myself that fit in.
    Art is amazing.

    This is a great representation of what it feels like to understand that the grass may not actually be greener on the other side. In the beginning when this girl in the white dress looks in the window, above the empty seat it says “ the life you’ve always wanted “. When white dress finally enters the house the longer she’s in there the more chaotic everything starts to get. In my imagination her white dress symbolizes her before she found out what really goes on in blue onesies house.And at the end she asked for her clothes back but blue onesie gets ran over with the white dress on, which I think that could possibly mean that she can never look at blue onesies life/lifestyle as she once did before entering the house.

    • @D-me-dream-smp
      @D-me-dream-smp 16 днів тому

      I find this interpretation quite apt and interesting as it takes in the bigger picture beyond simply the persons immediate experience.
      When you are young many of us believe that you reach a point in life where the world will make sense and we will “have it all together” and your midlife crisis is realising that destination doesn’t exist and was simply a mirage to give you hope through the bad times. You finally realise that your life will always be messy and challenging and disappointing and you will never escape who you are.

    Awesome. Had to rewatch it a few times for the meaning to really sink in. Always happy when Vewn posts, her storytelling is absurdly unique and so incredibly inspiring. What she manages to do with the simplest forms and most basic layouts is incredibly entertaining her work oozes personality and you feel like youve been in the places she portrays in her work. She manages to capture the essence and or the exact feeling of being young and stuck someplace thats unhealthy(dangerous even), in a way i have never seen any other animator do. The grittiness and crazy perspectives, all the crazy angles making the buildings ands streets look crooked it all lends to her storytelling and the running themes she utilizes. Youth, innocence, purity, responsibility, shit adults, violence, drugs, social media and overuse of internet, phones raising our children, broken family life, peer pressure, sexualization of younger and younger females.
    Im thankful for Vewn she inspires me ❤

    This animation makes me feel overstimulated or just very anxious because there are so many things happening at once, the music, the fast pacing, the pop ups that the main character has and that they are constantly trying to talk to her. There’s also something about this animation I can respect and I just love the art style so much

  • @KOKO-OMO
    @KOKO-OMO 5 місяців тому +842

    you know, this is one of the first that's a real headscratcher for me.
    but I feel like it represents wanting a life that seems great, it seems loving and fun, having a dinner together, with your whole family, but when then she realizes it really isn't what she wanted, misunderstandings, pressure, sadness, and when she tries to escape (going on her phone as an escapism), it stresses her even more. I feel like I can look a lot deeper into this one, because there's so many things it could be, but this is the first one that came to mind; wanting something because it looks so great and so different, but when you're truly apart of it you realize it isn't what you really wanted. it also seems like when she tries to go away to her own home, her only choice to get away is completely gone. setting her into her new life, since it says "go back HOME" at the end when she's going into her new home, it means this is her new home now. something she's apart of, even after she realized this isn't what she wanted
    I think it shows partially that choice, especially things that will be permanent, are so important.
    I can't wait to see everyone else's opinion on this :D

    • @somespaghetti893
      @somespaghetti893 5 місяців тому +101

      I felt that it was more a representation of what it feels like to not feel like yourself and the total alienation from others that results. Like you said there's that promise of "the life youve always wanted", but that promise is never fulfilled, creating that sense of alienation and non-belonging because you think that everything should be fine.And then there's the terror of thinking that you're the only person who feels that way and that you'll be accused and ridiculed if you're found out. That idea is represented by the mother, whose own fake reality has been shattered by finding out her husband has cheated, and seeing the lie that both her and the child are trying to live. And when the kid tries to escape that lie she finds that the truth she once lived has become someone else's lie, meaning she can never go back.

    My take/interpretation:
    During the dinner scene, you can tell based on their POV in 0:30, they resorted to seeing life like a simulator, choosing opinions the same way you would in a video game, perhaps this is an undertone of when they search "how to eat dinner normally" in the bathroom, hinting that they struggle with social interactions. Perhaps it's because they have social issues due to how they're raised or might even be on the spectrum.
    When told "Why do u think there's a real you to be in the first place?" A sort of manipulation to gaslight her into staying, by brushing off their concerns.
    Familiar with the feeling of overstimulation, and not being able to know what is going on around you (as shown when they apologize to the mom, they don't seem to know what they have done or are being claimed to have done)
    I feel like this is what it feels like to want to escape and leave a toxic household, but fear and hesitation of the outside world holding you down (as shown in the end when a doppelganger of themself gets hit by the car, which they decide to return home)
    Hits home as its sadly common for these kind of fights to break out during family dinner
    I might (probably) be wrong, but at least this is how I view this
    Wonderful work as always from Vewn ^^

      omg “specific kind of despair” is EXACTLY it. they feel jaded and cynical, but in like… an almost cathartic way. Little cynical details like the MSG and corn syrup. The dad’s horny messages to another woman. The suicide helplines in the web search. All these little blink-and-you-miss-it observations on how much things are kind of awful. And the way they’re addressed is so biting that it almost lends a certain humorousness to them but it’s also weirdly cathartic to see them addressed in such a bitter and snarky way. Awe man
    It’s such a radically different life than what I’ve experienced personally, but I really felt like I was peering into someone else’s life and I understood the emotion you were feeling in those moments. It takes a really talented person to be able to convey emotion and story telling to an audience of people who might have had a totally different upbringing and have it resonate with them. This was really good, as sad as it was.

    WOWWWW this is my favorite one of the stuff you've done in a while! You really captured being chronically online, reality with the people around you, generational trauma, and toxicity brilliantly in just two minutes and with a few lines. I like her trying to live, getting sucked in by the internet, being grounded in reality (also trying to be herself being denied and being judged based on deep-rooted assumptions) then running and trying to be free on only to find she's trapped in something she was never really a part of in the first place. And she's trapped!! Her actual self got taken away by the world's cruelty.
    And we should probably mention the first girl being killed by this life. It wasn't what the protagonist expected at all.❤
    My favorite part was how she was just accepted as the daughter even though she just put some clothes on, especially when the mom was talking about the generational trauma with her, really showing how kids are dragged into problems.
    My favorite part of the art was the colors of the rooms, especially how many times they changed in the mom's scene, and above all the jarring lines of the dinner room in the last shot. The shape of a reality that no longer fits you.
    I always look forward to your videos and I ran to the notification!! I'm excited for the next one :)

    Ok this is rly cool. It feels like a rly autistic piece of art. I like how it sorta portayed the feelings of autistic confusion. Every action is unintuitive and has a label attached to it. Ppl behave in a confusing way. Everyone around u is misunderstanding your intentions. I loved the scene where the main character decided to leave the room when it wasnt socially accepteble. I feel I rly resonated with it. Also I like how there was too many stimulus all the time.

    In my opinion, the girl who committed suicide represents her purposely getting rid of her own/true self. The proof that this is the same girl all along is that she falls off the roof of the same house. The solution she finds to her problems of not fitting in (may be because of neurodivergence as overstimulation is later on experienced, or associates multiple types of differences that the protagonist may experiences) is pretending to be someone else, a more ‘normal’ or conventional version that would fit in the dinner table. When she comes back home she clearly has blood on her suit, but even if noticeable people do not care that much for people’s s struggles (also because her mom seemingly has her own problems, as she got cheated on her sense of normality has been broken but she has to keep on pretending that everything is alright). During the dinner the protagonist is not able to fit in, the dad doesn’t really care about the fact that the mom got cheated on and is upset. The main character then feels overwhelmed by what she’s given by the boy, and a blood drip comes out of her nose, one who seemingly has a face. I think this means that her true self slipped up, so she runs away in the bathroom and instead of suffering by ‘contemplating reality’ she just opens her phone like a lot of us as a form of escapism. When she comes back to the dinner table, revealing who she truly is in hope of having support no one actually cares about her struggles [in society], in fact they think it’s stupid that there would even be a real you in the first place, and you have to apologize when you weren’t in the wrong. When she wants to come back to her true self, she’s being robbed off of it, and loses her sense of self. This also in my eyes represents the dilemma of people who are in a toxic family: stay? Or not have a family? Is it better to not have a family, or one that’s horrible. At the end she just loses her self and fit in with the other, even if this family struggles and that she may become part of the problem.

    I Interpret that the dead girl represents her “old self” or another version of herself with her family, she wears the same clothes yet she isn’t the same, being in a toxic household changes kids emotionally and can sometimes disassociate with themselves with reality. Everything is brightly colored and painful to look at, it’s like you aren’t there mentally. Everything has options, like your own body isn’t yours, and that you’re just watching someone else’s life. It seems like “the perfect life” but she feels like she doesn’t belong, and that she isn’t who everyone thinks she is. Her own mother and father aren’t responsible and treat her like an unwanted guest. When she tries to escape and leave the toxic household, the dead girl she saw earlier gets ran over, which can symbolize her having no safe space. She is stuck and the only place she come back to is the horrible living conditions. The only version she has left of herself is someone who isn’t appreciated in their own home.

    Never in my life clicked on a video so fast. This is simultaneously anxiety-inducing, depressing, and relatable. The colors and reverbed sounds/voices really draw you in.
