You may want to mention that we need to activate the legacy patterns, which is found in the pattern panel. For those looking for the Pattern Panel: If you don't find the pattern panel. Go into windows drop down menu and press pattern. You will get a pattern panel to the right of your screen. Then you have to go in and activate legacy patterns. To activate the legacy pattern there are three bars. Press the three bars. There is a drop down menu. Towards the bottom you will see a button saying, "legacy patterns". There are many legacy patterns. Go into the 2019 fold and you will find a folder with legacy essentials. The pattern is inside that folder. :) Hope this helps.
Thanks for that helpful hint. I found it in PS 2022 by going to the hamburger in the Patterns panel and selecting 'Legacy Patterns and More'. This appended the legacy patterns to the panel. The pattern Brady used is called Ant Farm, and for me it was located in Legacy Patterns and More -> Legacy Patterns -> Legacy Default Patterns.
Thank you for providing CONCISE information with a GOOD CLEAR VOICE. The diction, the instructions on preparation step-by-step - and finally, taking the time to illustrate what effect the last step provides to the mix gives the learner a well-rounded understanding of the process. I searched and attempted several methods before finding Brady. FINALLY! I get it.
I agree. He speaks clearly, stays on topic and doesn't say "umm" every 30 seconds. But I really appreciate the speed of these videos. Not agonizingly slow but not so fast that a new user can't keep up. They're so good in fact that I actually signed up to his Patreon (and I never do those).
I really appreciate this tutorial, you do what a lot of others don't and make it more authentic by breaking the letters up as if it were tubes and add the diode inputs. Very subtle but honestly makes it more believable and authentic!
Cool thanks Luis! One of these days I want to make like a 45 minute tutorial that no one will watch where it gets all kinds of crazy details in there, ha...
This is amazing, and the workflow is great! 👌 Also all the deatils you put in your videos for the shortcuts and stuff are very helpful, even if we already know them. Thank you so much!
These tutorials are amazing... fun and effective. I'm dazzled at Photoshop and the scope of it, and I have to pause a lot to keep up, but they're so informative, thanks!!
Best tutorial for neon-type effect on Photoshop ever! I watched plenty before finding yours, and this is definitely the best both for explanation and final result. Thank you!
Hi, this is the most convincing Neon I have ever seen so far - thank's for that! You can even improve the tube look by setting the stroke style to gradient with style "Shape Burst" then set the gradient colors to fit the wanted color of the tube.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Samuel Dwayne Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Subbed and turned on notifications. This tutorial was a game changer for me when it came to thumbnails, stream layout, logos, etc. Easy to follow at any skill level.
Thanks Brady, great tutorial on making the neon sign text effects. I was able to create one for a class assignment, though I loved it so much I created a gif with it!
incredible, and well explained. Just subscribed, but I'm already a big fan of your style tutorials. Photoshop can be overwhelming at times with how broad and endless methods and uses are. Your tutorials actually help understanding come in, not just follow along blindly
How do you get the noise pattern? There are very few options when I open up patterns in photoshop and the noise one you demonstrated is absent. Thanks.
Really nice neon! tks. I wrote one word and i get everything done. But later i wanted to add another word with the same effects. How to do it? Thank you
really informative video! Thank you for making and posting these! Is there a way to use live text with this? or a simple way to make it flicker to on with after effects?
Yo, great tutorial. Question: for some reason the drop shadow effect isn't working for me. It stays only within the boundaries of the text, so it doesn't give the image that neon light look. To top it all, bc it's only inside the text the inner glow effect kinda gets overshadowed. Would you happen to know what is causing it? Already tried obscuring other layers to no avail, can't figure it out
Ahhh ya good point… This was in PS 2019, and now they’ve replaced the default swatches with some random leaves and water right? Honestly I think that water texture might work alright if it’s scaled up, since it’s a subtle detail. Bummer when they remove things on the updates! Thanks for the post
Thanks for this amazing tutorial. I have some issues. my clipping mask is resulting only on the stroke portion not in the outer glow portion. In this video 7:50mnt the wey you make it happen.it would be a great help if you light on it. Thanks.
Hey Brady, great tutorial. What if instead of a font, one had a drawn closed shape. Would the process be the same say if I drew a circle inside a circle for an O. I ask because I want to create an variation on a particular letter...as in CIGAR making the I in the shape of a cigar.
Hi There, I'm using windows 11 and photoshop 23 and pardon me, but no matter what I do I cannot get this to work. It just goes completely off when I attempt to do a clipping mask. If anyone can help me, I would be grateful. Thank you.
excellent video, but is there anyway i could do this with smaller writing please? it keeps telling me nothing selected but works perfect when enlarged. Thank you for your time
Ah gotcha - ya when the text gets too small it doesn't leave room for the neon right... It's saying nothing selected when you use select > contract, is that right? You might be able to just skip that step... Thinking about working out a new technique fro single line neon... I'll keep this in mind, that would definitely solve it!
Hi, I've watching your recent videos alot, really really love them. You've been pushing non-destructive way of making designs. I wonder if is it possible for this as well
you are introducing too much pixels, had the same problem. start by introducing "1 pixel" then apply it. you'll see that'll work. after that, you'll just need to find the perfect dimension for your project ^.^
Why constrain the metal background to only inside the letters? Think it would looks better if you show it outside the letters and fall off to black with the glow of the neon...
Dropping in to see how the pros do it. Fortunately there are twenty ways in PS to do things...my way one might be considered "harder" but it does involve lots of safety measures. I did more of this back around 2010 making a short noir film, and animating some neon signs in San Francisco's Chinatown in Black and White that haven't been operable since maybe the 1950's. Back then it was CS 4 Extended. The 3D tools were different back then and learning them without going completely nuts took a while. (I kept remembeing the line in Gone With The Wind, "Tomorrow IS another day." The film did good, and here' a copy of it with some updating to the titles and a mural added to a launderette wall..(I couldn't stand all that white in a noir film!) All effects done in Photoshop. ua-cam.com/video/CwQ84VaeJ-s/v-deo.html

Hey, great lesson. I have a problem. When it was necessary to pick up a stroke, I did not have the right pattern
wow!
love the tutorial...but...what is the name of the wobbly noise pattern? and where can i find it?
it's in legacy patterns
The gaps in neon signs are usually in the corners of the shapes an also close to each other to save on wiring ;)

will this work with an image. Like a logo?

In the pattern section, i can't find the one you used.
Hello, At 4:30 when I click edit stroke is greyed out. I followed the steps as shown
Hm trying to think of what that could be... You have an active selection and a new layer (not a live type layer)?
Why constrain the metal background to only inside the letters? Think it would looks better if you show it outside the letters and fall off to black with the glow of the neon...
Then do that yourself...
