It's crazy that FSU had a 4th & 10 shortly after the start of the 4th quarter. If they hadn't converted that, the comeback may not have happened. Incredible game.
I'm a auburn fan but I miss this rivalry back when 5 star recruits in Florida rarely left to play elsewhere like nowadays where Alabama recruits the state of Florida better sadly
I still can't believe all these years later that this was my first FSU home game. We almost left when it was 31-3. I am sooooo glad that we stayed. GO NOLES ---------> Spurrier vs. Bowden was that era's Woody vs. Bo
I was there. It was GREEEEATTT!!! As good as a win. After all this time, has anyone ever determined how far that Gator player threw his helmet when the final gun sounded? We're talking possible world record.
We were up w/ our backs on the glass of the box seats on the 40. I remember when Kez caught that pass on the second drive in the 4th, a gator fan on the row below us said, 'Oh no...'.
I devoured some Thanksgiving leftovers with this game. I lay down on the couch at the start of the 4th Quarter when the score came on. 31-3, Florida. And they said, "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that IS the correct score." As I drifted off to sleep, I thought to myself, "Famous last words? Nah, what are the odds?" I woke up a bit later just in time to see Florida State score. Then they showed the score, with FSU down only a touchdown. And I'm like, "What?!?" Yeah, I saw the end but I missed most of the excitement.
I asked a huge gator fan that attended the game to describe the game and his emotions moment by moment as FSU stared to mount the comeback. He was one of these great story tellers that could paint a picture. By the time he got through, my sides were hurting so bad from laughing so hard.
what the hell are you talking about. This was a 28 pt comeback., FSU was losing to Aub by 18 in the NC game. Since the teams started out 0-0 (a tie) and FL led by 28 at one pt, FSU cameback to a tie.
I’m a lifelong diehard Seminole fan and it’s taken me up to this point in my life just to be able to rewatch some of the tough losses to the gators from the 90’s. It really was special
@@cmoneyno5 Coach Bowden said that they at least needed to come away with a tie following a 28 pt comeback. I think it was a good strategy, as it forced Florida to throw to try to retake the lead. FSU had a chance, but could not quite get into FG range.
Remember this game like it was yesterday, as a die hard LSU fan my second favorite team is FSU. And when I came into the world they were number 1. Wish we can best y’all guys one day. Geaux Tigazzzzzz and 🪓 Geaux noles.
Because a tie would have the same feel as a win at that point. It's not a win in the history books but Bobby had a choice, go for 2pt conversion and risk having nothing to show of the comeback if they fail or tie the game and have a feel good story at the very least with the possibility of winning still. If it wasn't such a huge rivalry game then maybe they go for 2pt attempt. Being that it was a rivalry game and coming back from such a huge margin, it may not be a Win for FSU but without a doubt it was a Loss for UF
Richard Carr Yeah I’ve never been happy about the results of the game but when I look back at it Penn State was undefeated that season and I think Nebraska was as well. So as much as I wish Florida didn’t allow that to happen it definitely didn’t hurt us as bad as the loss we gave you guys in 97 😉
Bowden said in the post game interview that he would have felt awful if they missed it. To come all the way back like that and then put it all on one play is a hell of a gamble. Plus, he probably still had the memory of going for 2 against Miami and missing a national title shot in 1987.
Yep. He didn't attempt to finish. FSU was ranked #7, and played #4 FL at 12 pm PSU was ranked #2, and played unranked MSU at 4 pm. Neb was ranked #1 and played unranked OU at 2:30 pm. Bowden knew when he went for 1 that PSU and Neb were probably gonna win their games, which they did. He had NO choice but to go for the win if he wanted a chance to play for NC. NONE! Another reason he was a very good coach, but NOT a great coach.
These mid 1990s Games on ABC had amazing production and made it feel better to watch at home than to attend the game.
Definitely agree!

What a dagum game!
Was there on the fifty yard line about fifty rows up. That fourth qtr was magical.

@@kentverge The best part was finishing the game in New Orleans. You know ole Spurrier was dreading that bowl game. 😂
If Danny had 30 more seconds we would have had another touchdown. NO DOUBT AT ALL.
This was the second loudest game I've seen at Doak. The Oklahoma game in 2011 was a bit louder.
28 one of the best back ever had and we had a bunch😊

The Biggest comeback in Florida State history until 20 years later in the BCS Championship game with Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit.
I wouldn't give Musburger credit for anything, knowing his history.
You can’t really call it that big of a comeback since they didn’t finish the job
nope this was the best ever.

If only they played OT back then
They did. They played in the sugar bowl and the Noles beat them.
Still haven’t gotten over this one.
ME EITHER THAT GAME BELONGED TO THE GATORS ALMOST 30 YEARS LATER I AM STILL FUMING ABOUT THAT GAME
1:13:10 is about as badass as a punter has ever been. Pretty impressive.
After 30 years, I finally watched the game. Florida gave the game away! Plain and simple…
Spurrier never beat coach Bowden in Tallahassee and you can see how happy he was about it by the look on his face 😂
That, my friends, is a Choke!
NO IT IS NOT HOW CAN YOU GET THE WORD CHOKE FROM CHEAT LIKE THE REFEREES DID

Hey how do you find old games? I keep looking for the 1984 FSU vs Miami game.
Replays on tv.
Saw a bunch of plays from both teams that would be penalties in today's college ball!
Why would they not have the score on the screen back in the day? It makes no sense lol
