Founded in the 9th century, Fez reached its height in the 13th-14th centuries under the Marinids, when it replaced Marrakesh as the capital of the kingdom. The urban fabric and the principal monuments in the medina - madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains - date from this period. Although the political capital of Morocco was transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fez has retained its status as the country's cultural and spiritual centre.

Thanks for sharing this Kurt, really interesting tour. I love Fez, it's a very special place that I keep going back to. I enjoyed your background music too, on many UA-cam videos the music is way over the top (and I just switch off), but this was lovely, relaxing.

Thanks for the feedback, Neil… I agree, music on a lot of these, UA-cam videos leaves what to be desired! I try to match up my music too the experience. Honestly, though, as interesting, a fascinating as Fez was, we much preferred, Chefchaouen, and Marrakesh to Fez for different reasons on both. That said, I did enjoy Fez more than RABAT!
