Also also worth noting that when you are pasting settings, if you are pasting a setting that contains overclock, it will place powershards in the machine for you. Assuming you have enough.
Found this out myself, yes, its a great time saver. Especially late game refactoring for better alt recipes, get rid of raw ore youre no longer concerned about.
10:13 You can also type in the number you want to have in one stack, for example if you want to split 500 concrete into 450-50. That way you don´t have to fiddle around with the slider.
It's not really a hotkey, but since we are talking foundations it is very relevant. In the build menu, items that can be made with different materials have a drop-down and you can select which material you would like it to build with. That way you don't have to build all of your foundations and then go back over them with the customizer. They also get saved to the hot bar with whichever material you selected.
You can also hold E on foundations to open a wheel where you can select different types and cycle through materials. You also have that kind of thing for conveyors, pipes, etc.
World grid is awesome. I used to build sky bridges across the entire map just to "align" factories with each other. Love how there's an easy way now (I think it was update 5 that added this?). Only minor thing I'd love to see is being able to rotate while snapping to the grid. But there's an easy work around for that so it's not too bad =)
Its a good thing to note, that the R key as shown in this video, is also used to swap ammo types for guns and nobelisk detonator. While having them in active, hold R and use the wheel to select type, then tap R to reload new type.
Oh wait, you can do that now ? If only I had known T^T Last time I checked (a while ago), you couldn't And because of the keymaping I use, I had to press the equivalent of "ctrl+u" on a qwerty keyboard, which is pain
Pro tip: if you have forward/backward side mouse buttons, I highly recommend reassigning them in keybindings to scroll through hot bars. I find alt + scroll wheel to be too cumbersome to really make use of all 10
11:15 You can also re-bind the keyboard shortcuts for the copy and paste functions in the keybind menu to whatever you'd like. I have a mouse with a side panel with a few buttons, I re-bound copy and paste to two of them on my mouse, so I can use my left hand to move while pasting down a line of buildings with mouse button presses.
SUGGESTION: Many covered "how" to map and use the hotbars, but nobody made a video on a recommended set of hotbars and how to use them in combination with E for maximum efficiency. If you made a video on the topic you'd get all the views for those searching for how to use the hotbars :)
I just started playing with update 8 and only recently got started with coloring via the customizer.. I had no idea about the rightclick function there. Glad I didn't get too far into my megabase before watching this.
You can also select multiple individual items (of different types) for dismantling by pressing CTRL when hovering over each item you want to dismantle.
3:44 - when snapping foundations to the world grid, the game will center the foundation vertically. Meaning if it is a 1m foundation it will be offset by 0.5 m. To make sure they all line up well vertically, always place a 2m foundation first, so that it will be offset by 1m vertically ensuring it can be connected properly. You can delete and replace it with a 1m foundation afterward if desired.
You can also cycle build modes for foundations and pipes using the right mouse button rather than cycling through the menu no one seems to talk about it but that's what I do
Yeah...I have a lot of buttons on my mouse (11 I think...its a Razor something or other) including left and right mouse wheel clicking and have no idea how to set these as they apparently do not register when trying to assign using the keymap screen.
well there's sth that kinda isn't a hotkey, but a nice feature to get rid of the fog. by pressing CTRL + Shift + L you enable the dev console and with ^ you open it up. then just type r.fog 0 and the fog is gone. sometimes helpful to see more stuff around you, or in the death pit in the center of the map. i think that's a neat feature and it definetely helps for seeing buildings in other bioms easier. (only works if the keyboard is set to english in the windows settings)
On a tangential note, save your left pinky finger by using a mouse with button assignments. I use the Logitech G502. Thumb button is mapped to ctrl. I then just press c and v to copy and paste while pressing the thumb button. It's wonderful.
My in-game death just allowed me to discover the "Rapid Fire Rebar Gun" So I died jumping off a cliff. Back at base I made a second rebar gun and headed out. Once I got back to my crate I had 2 rebar guns. My head tilted to the side a bit and equiped BOTH rebar guns. They are both loaded. It takes 2 hits to kills regular hogs and spitters so you can hit one and quickly shift to the second rebar gun for a quick 2nd hit. No need to wait for a reload to do the deed. Also works great with hatchers and kill them before they spawn.
Just one addition to the world grid.. if you try to keep to the grid on two different spots just use 2m and 4m for the first foundations.. If you place a 1m foundation on grid at the first building site and another foundation at the 2nd spot you could get a 0.5m vertical difference when trying to connect those buildings.. doesen't happen with 2m and 4m..
If you find yourself in that situation, you could hide it by taking advantage of a larger elevation change. Clip the lowest ramp or wall into the foundation at the lower level. Making the two sections meet at a larger elevation change will make it disappear visually versus a .5m step in an otherwise flat run. And if you built them at the same level 0.5m off, maybe you could deliberately make one factory's access go to the second floor, thereby forcing the elevation change
Biggest thing I just found out after over 300 hours of playing was that I can type out my own over or underclock percentage instead of just using the slider. So i could have something like 94.541% and get exactly 250 screws per line. That's not the right percentage but I did not know that was a thing until yesterday.
I think he meant, "I never type O to open the codex and search, instead I type N to search which opens the codex". Saves exactly 0.0 nanoseconds, but if it better suits your mind, maybe its nice.
thanks for the overview, great to learn some of the quality of life shortcuts! Do you know if it is possible to copy the color setting similar to the 'middle mouse button' for buildables? That would really make me want to use more color. Right now, cant bve bothered to color something i know i will have to delete and redo for debuging purposes...
Hey I've been meaning to ask you about liquids flow and height. So in the real world water will flow up without needing to be pumped up to a height where it flows from. So if you pump it up a water tower, the water will run up to that level. I've generally been doing this in my games and don't really have an issues with water flow but I can't really tell if it works or it's just my imagination. Do think you've got the tools to see if that works?
I don't know if there are any tools to help understand head lift, but that fits with how head lift should work. Any building with head lift (like a water extractor or pump) should let the liquid flow through any subsequent pipes so long as they don't bring the liquid higher than the building's height (generally measured from its output pipe) plus it's head lift value.
It definetly works that way :) In the oil field by the lake in the southeast corner of the map i placed ~ 8 big tanks on top of each other, layed a pipe to the top one and it will flow up and down across the map just fine with only 2 pumps on the feeding pipe.
I am nearly 70 & have over 1 429 hours of play time yet I have not got past the 7 tier, but I thank you for showing us how to use the hot key at the base of the screen, it has frustrated me for quite awhile.
Oh, there was one quick-key that I wasn't aware of -> the TMB / select only of same type for deletion thingy. And just asking myself: could I copy&paste every item marked for deletion at once by pressing the mouse wheel button? I think I never tried, but assuming it's only one eyedropper at once...
Ive seen alot of youtubers do this thing where they place multiple conveyer lifts then jump down and somehow drag them down?!?! I have to do the first click then run all the way to the next floor to place at desired height and then repeat one by one for each conveyer lift.... Am i missing something is there a key for it?
It should be noted that sometimes the keybinds in games and applications DO NOT translate properly depending on your keyboard layout. Very big problem in the majority of Europe. For satisfactory, the "tilde" key is problematic. i.e. It's not where it should be on a swedish/finnish/nordic keyboard layout. it is instead located where we have a key for the symbols §½ Another problem we have is when a software has keybinds [ and ]
the tilde key allows you to mess around with the game in a few ways, which may or may not work or be safe. But it is useful to be able to input the command: r.Fog 0 This turns the fog off until the game is restarted or "r.Fog 1" is used
You could mention that trick with deleting only one tipe of object and ignoring everything else works same way with painting only one type of object you want. :)
Thumb mouse button refers to usual mouse button 4 on your mouse this can be clicking the mouse wheel or if you have thumb buttons on mice that have that, it'll be one of them
I have seen people build splitters on already constructed belts. For the love of god, how do you people do it?? I can NEVER get it to work, the splitters never work, the belt just works like there is no splitter...
You have to make sure it actually snaps to the belt. Move it slowly until you see it jumping to the belt. Personally i prefer to delete the belt, place the splitter and then add the belts again. Looks cleaner that way.
you have to aim directly on the belt to make that work. the difference is very easy to see when you build on foundations. if you get the normal 1 m snapping you will build on the foundation without connecting to the belt, but if build hologram of the splitter moves smoothly along the belt it will connect. extra hotkey: when you aim the splitter on the belt you can hold ctrl and it will snap to line up with other things like building in- and outputs

I paste powershards all the time. You just have to remember to keep making them every so often or it won't copy them.
this is a underrated youtuber

I think the thumb mouse button for selecting 1 type is something that needs to be set by each user because most mouses don't have a thumb button.
I recommend AutoHotkey (free) or ReWasd (Not free) as a work around.
yeah I am pretty sure I set that to the thumb button myself. it was not the default
Yeah...I have a lot of buttons on my mouse (11 I think...its a Razor something or other) including left and right mouse wheel clicking and have no idea how to set these as they apparently do not register when trying to assign using the keymap screen.
