The reason the listing doesn't have any runner up finalists before Billy Smith win in 1981 Is he vezina trophy was originally the best goals against team jn the league. In 1981 what was the vezina beforehand was changed to the jennings and the nhl rebranded the vezina trophy as the best goalie as voted on.
Well he is right now. But check back to where things were after 30 games last year. Jeremy Swayman, Adin Hill, Connor Ingram and Cam Talbot who had a .926 SP after playing 19 games in the first thirty were the leading contenders for the Vezina. Thatcher Demko hadn't got hurt yet and had a .921 sp. Charlie Lindgren had a .925 sp after 11 starts. Meanwhile in Toronto Martin Jones was picking up the pieces from an injured Woll and melting Samsonov. Hellebuyck was down on the second tier with guys like Linus Ullmark and Carter Hart. So sure enjoy it. I have Stolarz, Gustavsson, Hellebuyck and Dostal as my favourites right now. Don't expect them to all hang around to the end of the year. Joey d'accord, Karel Vejmelka, Cam Talbot , Jake Oettinger, Logan Thompson and Ilya Sorokin are on that second tier.
I honestly can't remember when we last talked about how solid the Leafs goaltending tandum has been. Many of us are giving the team a wide berth this regular season due to the goaltending, but also the now low event hockey Leafs play. Even when behind and being outplayed, Leafs seemingly still have a chance to pull out and win. Looking forward to getting players back and figuring out priorities to add for playoff run.
Feel free to check these stats as I may have them wrong and if I do I will stand corrected but it looks like Stolarz has played in 16 games, won 9. Compare that to Connor Helebuyck who has started 23 games, won 18. No comparison. Stolarz is good but Helebuyck is at another level.
I love it when TML-fans discover that there are 31 other teams, and those teams have good players on them. Yes Stoalie is good, but he has been for years.
I think Carey won the Vezina played 71 games to Osgood 50. Had 2.22 GAA with 9 shutouts Hasek was a beast but still had a 2.86 GAA which played a factor. Carey had a lot of publicity that season
@cadenswedgan91 carry price wise twice the G Aidin hill is and hill has a cup. So why would Stolarz have to be better then carry who never won a cup. Just a question. So many great Gs that never won a cup. How about Sir Hendrick lunquist. Sry if I miss spelled his name
There was definitely a great deal of "Chris Osgood isn't that good, the Red Wings are just THAT good" talk throughout his career. Complete nonsense in my mumble, admittedly biased, Red Wings fan opinion.
It's also completely hypocritical, because almost certainly Hasek didn't win because the Sabres were just that bad that year (2.83 GAA and league-worst 30 losses for him were why he lost). Honestly, if that's the argument, Hasek wins, but even without Detroit being the best single-season team that year, I don't know how you argue against Puppa's year, dragging the Lightning kicking and screaming into their first playoffs with a 918, 2.46 and 27-16-9 record behind a team whose best skaters were Roman Hamrlik, Brian Bellows and a bunch of trash. Even the Sabres at least had Lafontaine, Peca, and a bunch of guys that would match up to Hamrlik and Bellows on their roster.

Thanks mate
The utter timing of this….
Oops.
He never got the chance to be the number one on any team. Stolarz is the real deal. But Woll and Stolarz are a great tandom

Why can’t leafs fans just be happy they are getting good goal tending? Instead of fixating on if he’s the best in the league which is a stretch
Umm they clearly are😂 they said they’ve never goaltending this good since the early 2000s maybe earlier

Did you guys really start the Anthony Stolarz vezina talk only to see him go down with an injury in the second period? Way to jinx gentlemen.
That's on us. Sorry, gang.
To be the Vezina winner, you need to play 60 games and win at least 40 of them with solid numbers in the GAA and Sv% categories.
I love it when TML-fans discover that there are 31 other teams, and those teams have good players on them. Yes Stoalie is good, but he has been for years.
This didn't age well
I think Carey won the Vezina played 71 games to Osgood 50. Had 2.22 GAA with 9 shutouts
Hasek was a beast but still had a 2.86 GAA which played a factor. Carey had a lot of publicity that season
Hasek was one of the best goalies in history to be sure
Look, I honesly don't know if Jake Mccabe is good... I didn't understand he was this good
I've loved McCabe since he was signed. Monster. He was a great fit for the Brodie sized hole in our team and hearts
Could not have been worse timing, he just got hurt 😭😭
.....and he's injured. Life of a Leafs fan.
Not anymore 🙄 now every time Joe Woll dives to make a save... Leafs Nation will hold it's collective breath 😳😳😳
He needs Carey price 2014 level numbers to be considered a vezina winner since he has always been a backup

Calm down lol it's early
Pain.
Osgood/vernon?
lol there’s 4 other goalies wayyyyy better than, enough of the leaf parade not even half way into the season
No!!!! Are you trying to curse him?
you said it too loud :(
And he’s hurt fml

At this point in the season its hard to make the argument He shouldn't
No. But Anthony Stolarz should be!
This is a joke right? Solarz is a glorified backup not good
Agreed. Stolarz is amazing, though.
What is your team. He has proven himself
