"A base too far"
Sympathetic Mongolians might have a different opinion about that.
Even from Ukraine, all of Russia is technically reachable. But they do require a number of specific design characteristics to get extreme ranges, including lightweight high-aspect-ratio wings and potentially even droppable (ideally conformal) fuel tanks. Can't just strap a bomb inside a Cessna and attach a guidance kit ;) But from what I've seen of Ukraine's recent domestic drone work, I think they're more than capable of it. Palyanytsya for example makes extensive use of composites (looks like a CF body and fibreglass wings). And the GPS+INS kit should have no trouble getting a GPS signal in the remote Russian wilderness far away from jamming infrastructure, to reset its INS guidance.
Great report Suchomimus
What if anti-war Russians have small drones nearby the airfields. A small charge, even a Molotov-cocktail can do sigificant damage if precisely targeted. Remember when a drone landed on that AWACS a while ago?
On that note, if UKR could hit an airbase with their thermite drones, especially if they were able to develop the ability to turn the supply on and off during the "bomb run", so as to not waste the load, I believe this would be a method to greatly enhance the reduction of ORC air power.
Far too few anti-war Ruzzians around. They are all brainwashed or brain dead...

You know these airbases are inadequately defended when there are no tyres on the aircraft. Excellent work as always, thanks.
Thanks for that Mr Sucho Keep well

Tu-160 is the Soviet copy of the US B-1A. They hated the idea of B-1As, which were supposed to replace all B-52s in USAF SAC service.

If only they could get one of the new thermite drones to those bases. Imagine a thermite rain along the entire flightline! Wrong type of drone for those distances though.

The Ty-134s in Kazan are more likely to be the IL-62s. Recognizable by the 4 engines and the invisible landing gear nacelles on the wings, which a Ty-134 would have to have.
Likely Ukraine has 'special aviation operations' in hand for all these bases. Interesting to consider Russian 'AWAKS' no longer fly at all near Ukraine, is it to save the last ones or were those shot down the last ones .... Could we soon see the last ones of others?
Ukraine also attacked the Beriev facility, in Rostov Oblast, where the A-50 was maintained.
Ukraine expended a lot of the Palianytsia drones in those three attacks, *100* alone against Toropets alone. I guess they will have to rebuild their stocks again which takes time.
Russia can move planes fine but they cannot move maintenance facilities, tools, test eqpt, repair parts, records inside the facilities. That would be a big loss as well.
Taking a risk aren't ya?

What would be interesting if Ukraine could rig these drones to drop the thermite on the aircraft like the quad drones do on Russian trench positions.
There was video of a drone that had a payload that exploded down like a cluster munition. That would mess up the upper surface of an aircraft's wing a bit. Drag is not your friend even if no internal damage was done so skins would need replaced.
1950: "We've worked for years using our intel apparatus of hundreds of people, and one of our operatives reports two months ago that he saw a bomber"
2024: "Hey, random UA-cam guy here. A week ago they had two bombers on this base. Do you want exact coordinates too?"
Can anyone do one of these videos on The Russian ammo dumps and missile storage areas that remain inside Russia? We know Ukraine hit three of them recently but what others are sitting wide open on satellite imagery and are in range?
You wouldn't want that info freely broadcast - seems the Russian top brass aren't aware they have ammo dumps out in the open and we don't want them to know until they have gone up in smoke.

I wonder if there has been any relevant analysis of Russians overall pilot losses during the war, I think thats a much more critical factor than aircraft frames...
They have 17 tu 160 no new will be build. So im not your opinion in this case
@@hermelnderhans but how many pilots with experience do they have for them
if you don't have aircraft how can you fight a modern war? of course they are critical. you think Russia just has an endless supply of western chips ready to build more? you talk as if they are not sanctioned and can easily get decent parts. the only people giving them equipment are the people who don't win wars.
You are correct, pilots are much more important than the airframes. This is why most NATO anti aircraft weapons are biased to target the cockpit of an aircraft. Russia has lost about 15% of its total fixed wing fleet. That includes fighters, bombers, radar, and cargo/transport. But the pilot losses are just a fraction of that, as only about 1/3 of shoot downs result in the death, capture, or serious wounding of the pilot. So that means about 5% of of their pilots are no longer flying. That sound like a small number, but when you take into consideration that those loses are from Russias’s best trained pilots, includes specialty pilots for the IL-22 command & control and the A-50 long range radar, and that it takes 18-24 months to train a competent pilot (during peace time), that 5% suddenly becomes an issue for Russia that is impacting the war. But it’s their rotary wing fleet that is even worse off…
While training a helicopter pilot, in general, is quicker and easier than training aircraft pilots, the war in Ukraine is forcing helicopter pilots to require more advanced and harder training. The average helicopter pilot is not trained to fly within feet of the terrain at high speeds, because it’s seen as su*c*de on the modern battlefield. But in Ukraine the helicopter pilots are forced to fly that way because of all the air defense systems. And that’s a skill that requires a lot of training. And helicopters are taking even more loses than aircraft…so they need to train more men for a longer period of time. And both rotary and fixed wing fleets are suffering from a lack of competent and willing people to train.
if you don't have aircraft how can you fight a modern war? of course they are critical. you think they just have an endless supply of western chips ready to build more? you write as if they are not sanctioned and can easily get decent parts. the only people giving them equipment are the people who don't win wars.

The on the top may be a "ramp queen" meaning a derelict plane that's used for parts, or simply rotting into the asphalt.
This is a location which needs some well trained Ukrainian russian speaking sabatours to visit. They could visit both sites.
These in magenta aren't Tu-134.
Tupolev airliners have main landing gear nacelles on the trailing edges of their wings.
These are Ilyushin Il-62 most likely.

Imagine what Ukraine could do to a flight line if they found a way to transport and operate a thermite drone over these airfields.
Using the Jet Stream might help to increase the Range of the Drones, it's a One Way Mission after all.
Interesting to see the movement of bombers to safer airfields as Engels is well under risk. There is another airfield in the city of Nizjni Novgorod with the difficult name Ispytatel'nyy which houses more Mig-31 and a bit to the left a large ammo dump is visible which makes a nice opportunity for another huge mushroom cloud.
The first airfield in the video is Borisoglebskoye Airfield in Kazan by the way, and the image is the current one on Google maps which is already several month old. Several Tu-22M3 carrying what seems to be desert camo from a mission in the past, probably Syria?
The Tu-160 is variable wing, variable air intake and supersonic. Which means these are very very expensive to maintain. They're huge piles of junk - they have a hard time keeping most of them air worthy. The only thing they're good at is taking off from a distance and launching cruise missiles. But I can guarantee these are costing them a fortune to fly.
Russia have maybe 3 or 4 blackjack available on any given day.. with a surge of perhaps 6..
Much appreciated, much insights, excellent appreciated as always from you 🫶🏻🙂👌🏻
Do the Russian fighter bombers have air to air refuelling available?
How many of their airbourne tanker take downs would it take to stop long distance sorties?
Good question.
It's not an airbase - there is Gorbunov aviation plant in Borisoblebskoye near Kazan (do not confuse with Borisoglebsk airbase in Voronezh region) where those Tu-160 and Tu-22M are built
Longer distance from Ukraine means longer flight hours, increase wear & tear, increase pilots/air-crews fatigue, less sorties.
... all of those TU-160 Pterodactyls just sitting there ...
Jack, the Russian "y" is pronounced as "oo" as in moon. Ty-122 would be Tupolev 122.
😂🎉
Not a secret anymore
I wonder it it would be practical and feasible for a larger drone to carry a couple of these jet powered drones that Ukraine makes under the wing or fuselage on a basic rail so that approaching the target range of these jet powered drones they could be started and accelerated away from the main drone which could act as the signal ship and follow at a more leisurely pace to turn up like a bad penny after the first units have hit and caused mayhem the mother drone for want of a better name would then arrive as they are trying to sort the damage out and cause further mayhem.
Big drone dropping a payload of thermite drones, while acting as a data relay...
your number on the tu-160's is a bit high if you ask me from what i've seen.
Let us hope that the Ukrainians know this data!
Interestingly Russia bought 11 Tu-160 bombers from Ukraine and the Tu-134 was made in Kharkiv.

So how are their Airbuses, in what appear to be in working order, when sanctions are supposed to be in place. I can't believe they have sufficient scabbed parts from unairworthy airframes.
Very expensive parts getting bought and smuggled out…
Hard to run an airline with normal spare parts….
Impossible to fly airbus or Boeing planes with a safe outcome using a dodgy spare parts program…
Sanctions actually work, in strange ways…
