      @@MWLaserHellp Mister, would you have any idea lf why rotary attachment suddenly started vibrating instead of rotating smoothly, it does that on both rotarys I have, I saw the relay you showed on this video, do you think it might be that?

    In my new imported machine they did include the relay and also a 6 pin Aviation-Type connector instead of the normal 4 pin one in a 2-phase stepper rotary. The two extra pins in there should be bridged in the rotary side, so when you connect your rotary, it closes the GND wire coming from the relay to the power supply GND and activates it. If found it very smart not to need a switch to change between both connections, only when your rotary is connected it will activate the relay.

    Hi Matt, can you use a second driver and hook it up to the U axis?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 роки тому

      yes some controllers are able to use U axis for rotary. if this is an option for you then by all means

    Hi Matt, I just came across this video at the right time, as I am doing something similar on my OMTECH 50w. Instead of a relay I'm using a 4PDT toggle switch to go back and forth between the normal Y axis function and the rotary. To accomplish this I installed a second 4 pin aviation connector so I can plug in my rotary. I'm very new to CO2 lasers (I have a diode laser with a rotary) so I have two questions; is there a benefit to using a relay over a toggle switch and can I switch between them with the power still on? I've watch videos where people will disconnect the 4 pin Y axis plug to swap in their rotaries with the power on and I just wanted to know if that's safe to do.

    Hi Matt, thanks for all the great info! I have a question that I hope you can explain. After hooking up as layed out, I noticed it negated the Y axis proximity sensor. Did I miss something? Thanks!

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  2 роки тому +1

      Y axis proximity / limit / reset on startup - is disabled in vendor settings when using the rotary and reenabled when you revert back to gantry Y axis

    I just did the same with my laser but with a different approach. I just used a 12pin ON-ON switch (google: MTS-403) and therefore had no need for extra power. Do you see any advantage in using the relay?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 роки тому

      The relay was not my idea, I saw it on a few machines that I imported in 2020, the manufacturer had set it up with the relay and button switch, so I took this idea and tried it out on a few machines with good results.

    My machine has a separate U controller for the rotaries supplied and a button on the top of the machine to I guess disconnect the y axis. They never connected the button. Would I need to add a relay to control the power to the controller or to switch the output signals from the controller?

    Ive got a quick question mate..
    How can I adjust the laser jog on a Ruida controller. I am learning how to cut using the pass through but in order to align the registration marks to lightburn I have to jog the laser to the exact center of the registration mark I burned. It is really hard as every time I jog it goes way to fast and to large an increment.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 роки тому

      which model controller? you should have the option to switch between continuous and manual mode movement of the axis. you can set the manual movement distance in the controller. for more info email more details of your controller to askmatt@mwlaser.com.au

    What's the advantage of using a relay switch instead of a Toggle Switch 4PDT?

I have heard of many people using the switch, I'm not sure if there are benefits each way, but I find screw terminals easier than solder connections. :)

    Very bad idea actually.
    Switching the Motor Wires while the Drivers are powered up can and WILL kill the Mosfets.
    Better use 2 Drivers and switch the control Signals.

    • @nicholaidacombe6924
      @nicholaidacombe6924 3 роки тому

      Couldn’t you just switch it when the power it off?

    • @ichbinsnur1941
      @ichbinsnur1941 3 роки тому

      @@nicholaidacombe6924 Yes you could, but how shall the Relay work without power?
      That would only be possible with a beefy 4 pin double throw switch.

    • @007Greenalien

      Slightly confused. If I have two separate drivers, one for rotary, one for y axis. You say switch the control signals. How do you do that?

    • @ichbinsnur1941
      @ichbinsnur1941 3 роки тому +1

      @@007Greenalien Simply switch the Pulse and Direction Signals from the Controller between the 2 drivers, instead of switching the Motor Wiring.
      Connecting/disconnecting the Rotary must still be done without power.
