  • Nigerian comedy has boomed in the last decade, and Bright "Basketmouth" Okpocha is, arguably, the country's most successful stand-up comic.
    Born and bred in the notorious Lagos slum Ajegunle, he discovered his gift for comedy by chance and has never looked back.
    "Basketmouth means somebody who doesn't hold anything back, which is like a basket. A basket doesn't hold water. And when I decided to go with the name Basketmouth, it actually defined my kind of art, my kind of delivery, because I just say it the way it comes, I do not have any filtering system, and that's how Basketmouth came to life," he says.
    His take on Lagos, West Africa's most vibrant city, is upbeat, irreverent and challenging.
    "Lagos is real and grimy, and I like grimy places.... Lagos is very hard so you have to be on top of your game. Everyone wants to outsmart the next person. Lagos never sleeps. Lagos is a place where you can get rich in a second and get poor in a second."

    I'm touched by the reality represented in this documentary and Basketmouth's honesty. These celebrities are humans too and having somehow reached the pinnacle of their society, they could once in a while suffer depression; especially if they have to work harder to remain relevant in their profession. 👍🏾Basketmouth for being real

    Is al Jazeera english allowed in america or am i being block from great news reports. I would like to watch al Jazeera english but am blocked in this country it says why? Am i being sensored by my own country from reports done by al Jazeera. That would piss me off

    • @e0o9kii
      @e0o9kii 9 років тому

      You could watch Al Jazeera America on TV.
      I mean remember a few years ago, Al Jazeera said as they're launching Al Jazeera America (as a joint venture with Current TV), they said that Al Jazeera will start blocking AJ English from American UA-cam in order to force Americans to watch it on TV instead.

    • @IkesLionsDen
      @IkesLionsDen 9 років тому

      AlJazerra blocks certain episodes on youtube. Usually if it is a documentary they will show it. But if it is a news report they block it most of the time. We are being censored, don't know by who though.
