I have autism and ADHD. One common trait of these is called a special interest, or hyperfixation. This sounds like your son might have a special interest. My main special interests are pillows, and anything relating to jungles, step pyramids, and Mesoamerica, particularly the Aztecs. I became really obsessed with all of these things when I was around 5. I remember being around that age and watching my older sibling play Zuma, and just being enamored with the step pyramid and jungle theming of the game. And I loved this restaurant chain called Azteca Mexican Restaurant because I thought "it's called Azteca! It must be related to those people that built those cool pyramids in the jungle!" But of course in reality, the Aztecs did not found that restaurant, and they didn't live in the jungle.
@@RivLoveshine I'm also autistic, but I think pretty much all children go through phases of intense obsessions and it's a bit odd to claim a child has a special interest based on a short UA-cam comment.
At four years old, (around the late sixties early seventies) I declared that I wanted to be a professional Dancer, and Like yourselves my parents were amazingly supportive and encouraging (they didn't care about gender specific activities) and I went on to have an amazing life and career spanning over forty years as a professional dancer, including 12 west end musicals and a couple of touring ballet companies. Rupert is a very lucky young man, with Parents like you, a little hard work and passion he'll achieve great things, what ever he chooses in life. kudos ladies, you're doing a wonderful job 🎅🏿💛💛 P.S. Supportive parents go a long way. Even if this isn't something he wants to pursue in adulthood he'll know his parents will always be there for him no matter what he chooses to do in his life.
I love all the ballet books! When my kiddo was a little, We picked up a ton of ballet books, As they were quite obsessed as well! Their favorite was "Dancing in the Wings " by Debbie Allen. Sunny is twenty-nine, and It is still a treasured favorite!
My five year old son was the only boy in his ballet class. He had the opportunity to perform in a local show where he was teamed up with another boy, and they really enjoyed dancing together! I asked his teacher, “how many children do you need to run a boys’ class?” because I thought he’d love it. The teacher told me she’d need ten sign-ups, and do you know, I did it! I found ten little lads who like leaping around. Quite a big feat in south east London! So, the new class has been running weekly since the summer. What did my son say? “I miss the girls’ class!” Oops 🤦🏻♀️
What a sweet young man you are raising. His statement that "it's completely what I wanted" is not just a a lovely way to tell you that he appreciates his room makeover but shows how much care you take to listen to him and nurture his interests in just the way he needs. ❤ Merry Christmas to your beautiful family!
aaaah im watching this before i go to dress rehearsal for the nutcracker and im so excited!!!! there really needs to be more gender diversity in ballet and seeing rupert enjoy it warms my heart so much as a nonbinary ballet dancer 💕
I agree, my younger brother who has always loved ballet was bullied out of doing ballet because ‘boys can’t do ballet’ I wish he’d been left alone and allowed to like what he likes, it’s amazing to see young boys allowed to explore different interests
@@Ravenovia usually this type of thing comes from outside of the ballet world, from people who don't know/care about the importance of gender balance in ballet and the stuff like that. most dancers are thrilled to have more of a gender balance lol, makes partnering stuff so much easier and makes getting roles less obnoxiously competitive for fem roles.
@theyggdrasilarchives, I definitely agree but I meant ballet specifically. He was one of five boys in his entire ballet academy and the only one in his class. And the bullying he suffered because of it was from his classmates and was so bad he had to change schools.
i went on a google deep dive because i couldn't remember what it was called but i had an AMAZING book when i was little called 'i want to be a ballerina' by rosie mccormick! it's a pop up book with BEAUTIFUL illustrations, i think you can only get it second hand now but it's a really lovely book if you can find it!
Big YES for limiting his choices to not overwhelm him! Love from an educationalist, who works with toddlers. Decision fatique is even valid in adults, forcing your toddler to decide everything is a sure fire way to make them a stessed little timebomb. 😑 Good Participation is giving children small, age appropriate choices wich consequences they can grasp. For toddlers this would be something like giving them two outfit options, just how Jessica does, or 3 pictures of lanterns to choose wich to built.
It's the part he "lifts" you for me, this whole video is so precious 😭😍 Rupert will keep growing up knowing he is loved and respected, a huge thumbs up to his mamas!
“It’s completely what I wanted” 😭❤ You’re both raising such a wonderful boy, he’s a testament to how much you put into your parenting. His reaction was so adorable it brought tears. I’m sure he’ll remember this forever. Job well done! ❤
I love seeing parents taking their kid's interests seriously and respectfully, even if they would be what some might be "outside the box". My kiddos have mostly had interest matching of "gender expectations", but as I was someone who really didn't match any and grew up thus with slight resentment of some things feminine first because of the pressure invoved until I untied that later, I wanted to give my kiddo's ability to explore, and explore they did. My daughter now practices fencing and my teenage boy decided to choose "soft crafts" as one of his courses in school, and he crocheted a large Timmy the Lamb plush to his baby brother ( and it is so darn adorable!). I just love that they can do what feels authentic to them, and they don't need to wonder if we the parents are in their corner. Congrats for RUpert from the bedroom makeover!
If you were looking for more ballet themed books, when I was a young ballerina I LOVED "Bijou, Bonbon & Beau: The Kittens Who Danced for Degas" about three kittens who make the theater their home and play with the dancers and leave paw prints on the resident artist's (Degas) canvas.
this reminded me of my mom spending weeks meticulously copying a bunch of sea creatures into a mural for the bedroom i shared with my siblings when we were kids the colors are faded and the wall is stained from water damage and age but it's still there, must be close to twenty years old now
You guys are so intentional and thoughtful in all and everything you’re doing for your son, that seems exhausting being that conscientious and I’m so impressed, you are both wonderful parents ♥️
Even though we've not seen his face, he is the cutest thing! I adore his personality and they way you support him. It helps give me the confidence when helping my kid become the person he's supposed to be but also the courage to let him fail. Thank you!
love Claudia's polar bear jumper! I also loved nutcrackers as a little kid, they were so fascinating to me for some reason, we still have a few for Christmas.
As a ballet-loving person(and hopefully soon-to-be-novice), whos been watching so much ballet related content, this made me smile unbelievably big. What a beautiful video 🥹❤
Not to alarm, but I highly recommend always washing fabrics you buy before use, as they’re often made with chemicals that are harsh on the skin (and now, in the era of WISH and TEMU level production, can also have toxic chemicals and viruses and bacteria on them).
That last line in the book you mentioned made me burst into happy tears. What the heck? I love so much how attentive both of you are to Rupert's growing interests. Obviously, that's what parents do, but seeing the special love and care going into every piece and every decision is so heartwarming. Excuse me while I go blow my nose. 😭🤧😍
limiting choices to just two items per draw is ideal for young toddlers, but at 3 going on 4, a choice between 3 or 4 items is probably fine for him. Having more of the clothes stored in the draws accessible to Rupert will be much easier for you to maintain as parents, I think it makes sense to go with that.
Rupert’s new bedroom makeover was fantastic! ❤ He seems happy with what Jessica and Claudia did for his room. It was also nice to see Tilly and Bertie as well. 😊
My son has autism and we were trying to help him become more verbal (which worked btw) so I read him 3 new picture books and a chapter from a "boring book" as he described it, ie a chapter book. Every single night. For 8 years. We were forever at the library. What I'd give to have another reading goodnight.
I love how you’re blurring your child face for safety i seen so many parents make their child seen so much on social media, it sucks that they should feel the need to hide it but with how things it is in this world I’m so glad you’re protecting your child😭💗
Wowzie, three year old me was just hiding under tables, rolling on the ground and asking brutal questions. Compliments to you guys and your cutely sophisticated toddler 💛
Thank you for sharing such sweet family moments with us. It is lovely to see how much you care for and love each other. And as an owner of no less than 40 full size nutcrackers, I agree with Rupert that you need more of them throughout your house. 😬
If his love for nutcrackers continues, you can consider 1 new nutcracker each year. My adult offspring still enjoy bringing out their collections for the holiday season.
You can't love something you don't know exists. What about all of the other amazing things in the world. Animals among them. I still feel a connection to tigers that started when I watched Benji.
Oh, i love this so much. My oldest has danced since she was 7, 25 now. My boys both danced and everyone was in the Nutcracker for years, even my husband. My 14 yr old son still dances but not as much. They both still help with our Ballet company's Nutcracker every year and live seenew you ger boys dancing. They had several male Ballet role models. If you can, our Nutcracker was on the national news NBC Nightly News. Our area was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Rupert's room is wonderful! Happy Christmas
I started to watch your videos because I love the outfits you wear. I watched them all the way up to when Rupert was born, but then randomly, youtube stopped reconditions. Rupert seems such a sweet, special child. How lucky he is to have such supportive mothers who allow him to love what he loves and explore who he is without fear of judgement. What an awesome gift ❤
So sorry you are both feeling poorly. Hope you’re both tip top in time for the Holidays. Rupert’s room turned out so beautifully! He is so sweet “It’s so nice…It’s completely what I wanted!” Oh this child! I just want to give him a big hug! So precious! ❤ Edit: Yay new merch!🎉🎉🎉
Ohhh Rupert gets to live in a fairytale! Beautiful and loving mums and a wonderful bedroom with all his favourite things. You are creating such a lovely childhood for him❤️
I was quite impressed with his mature reaction.... I was expecting him to jump around and scream like most children do, but he is so calm and respectful about it. I can tell he absolutely loves it, and I'm glad you went with things that can easily be changed when he is ready for a new theme. I get worried when I see parents doing the entire room, fancy furniture and all, in a single theme...... I know for myself that I go through phases quickly....
Rupert's Nutcracker Bedroom is so enchanting! A child's world should be magical. You have created that for him.Rupert is a very creative child.Dancing/movement expands the neural pathways in the brain when paied with music.I 'd sleep in there, too!❤❤❤❤
Precious! Everything in his bedroom is perfect for him and he took ownership of it right away! I melted at his reaction to the new things which display who he is. Well done, Mummy and Mama!
I know you didn't ask for book recommendations. However I thought I would share one of my favorite books I got as a ballet loving child. It's called The Ballerina's Handbook: An Insiders Guide to the World of Ballet. by Kate Castle and S. Allsopp It's got heaps of pull out taps, interactive cards, letters from the main characters pov, notes and many other cool things. Maybe more appropriate when he's slightly older but just thought I would share
I'm like Rupert; I looooooooooooooove nutcrackers and ballet. I would love that bedroom now!!! What a lovely change for Rupert! It's wonderful to see a young boy so keen on dance, and receiving such encouragement. You and Claudia are doing an amazing job!
Aww this was so sweet! I love him trying to lift you at the end as a ballerina. Having a great reading area is always top notch, as a fellow bookworm I loved it!
Rupert is so sweet and adorable. He's very gentle and polite for a child his age, and it's clear he feels seen and respected by his mums. You guys are doing a great job, thank you for being so loving and supportive of his interests
My almost 2yo daughter LOVES airplanes. For a whole year already she's loved them. I got her an airplane that you can drill together and apart off Amazon and she just loves it already.
My Montessori daughter, and her Montessori son....he can even walk to his Montessori school as it is across the street...he goes to his bureau and the first top and first bottom. Always what is on top. Not a care, but he has shown us all from age 2 that that he loves MATH.
This warmed my heart!! Ballet was such a meaningful part of my childhood and you are doing a great job opening rupert up to it at such a ripe young age. Side note- it's very nice as a brit to consume content where the child has an english accent? I feel like lisp/childlike pronunciation plus american accent is just an incomprehensible combo for me even though i hear it all the time on parenting themed channels. Anyway happy festive period to your gorgeous family!!
What an absolutely precious video!!! Rupert's tiny voice saying big words is so endearing!! The room glow up was completely the best thing ever! I love how absolutely astonished Rupert was, and how in awe he was over every detail! He's going to be the most lovely big brother!
Also, I’ve heard of people adding a choice per year of age to give them a bit more choice. So maybe you can compromise by giving him three choices now?
as a twenty-four year old who collects nutcrackers (I believe I currently have twenty-five of them, as I’ve been getting one or two a year for about 15 years now), I completely love this interest of Rupert’s. He seems like such a sweet and loving little boy!
What a sweet and heartwarming video! I love seeing children with such strong interests and their parents embracing that and encouraging the interest. And Rupert speaks like a little gentleman of old, it's adorable.
as a ballet obsessed child I have lots of ballet books that hold positive memories for me but the Dance Tanya series of picture books by Patricia Lee Gauch, are some of my absolute favorites even now. the main chracter has a teddy bear dressed like a ballerina who i named a teddy bear that i still own after and we danced alot togerther!
this is nit-picky for sure but i would always recommend washing bedding before you put it on because you never know what chemicals or dyes the factory uses that may not have fully washed off. also as someone with allergies to detergent, its just the best way to know it doesnt have anything that could irritate yours or your cutie’s skins! beautiful makeover though! so glad you’re showing him how much hes loved ☺️❤️
Oh yeah, that was my only issue with this video, too. Also even if the chemicals used were not bad, all the dust from the factory line has probably gathered in the fabric. But the design itself was cute and will surely bring joy.
I always had the low hanging rods in the closet so my kids could choose their own clothes. I found that anything Hanna Anderson got worn first. Followed by Gap clothes. Primarily because they had soft or no tags and were brightly colored and soft.
Baby he is adorable !!! I absolutely need you to know that there is a Nutcracker musical book that play the song of the opera fitting for the scene on each page, it's been a blast with my students. The merch looks lovely tho I have absolutely no more money
This mad me so so so happy! Thank you letting him experience his interests it's going to and does bring so much joy! Also love the books selection. One of hem reminds me of my childhood! Love books
So fun to watch, the casualness especially. Makes it much easier to watch and follow, and gives it a cosy vibe. And watching this reminded me of a show i used to watch called dance academy, all about ballet and they were inclusive as well👌 And true, a lot of children's literature, though they have amazing art style, are actually really abstract drawings, and contain stories that don't make sense, don't have a beginning and an end, or use sentence that are too long with or complex(since anyone can write a book, they're not all equal when it comes to educational value). In my classes we also were taught to use more realistic drawings when teaching kids new vocab. And with animals, use of actual photographs was advised instead of drawings Seeing the cupboard reminded me of my own cupboard. 85% rarely used, 15% of the same things, but it does help having a section of ready to wear things, makes it much less overwhelming👌🤓
Love the Nutcracker Duvet and pillow. Those are gorgeous!! So is the rest of the room. And Rupert is adorable!! That dancing at the end was also adorable.
He is the cutest. I love how you interact with your child and how you give him the opportunity to grow into his own little person. One day, when I have (hopefully) a little child, I'l have to look up this video to get inspiration for its bedroom

I know you didn't ask for book recommendations. However I thought I would share one of my favorite books I got as a ballet loving child. It's called
The Ballerina's Handbook: An Insiders Guide to the World of Ballet. by Kate Castle and S. Allsopp
It's got heaps of pull out taps, interactive cards, letters from the main characters pov, notes and many other cool things.
You guys are doing a great job, thank you for being so loving and supportive of his interests
ruru likes ballet????? 🥹😭 AHHHHHHH he's such a sweet little angel!!! i hope he gets to dance his lil heart out in this life!!!!!!!!
Trying to lift you up like a ballerina is the purest thing I've ever seen❤
My almost 2yo daughter LOVES airplanes. For a whole year already she's loved them. I got her an airplane that you can drill together and apart off Amazon and she just loves it already.
That was darling. What a sweet and lucky little chap Rupert is. 🎀💖🎀
HE'S SO HECKIN CUTE 😭💖
the room looks lovely, and his reaction was so heartwarming 😊
My dears, you are still both as upper organized!
Thank you for the tour though! Everything in my life is messy right now, and it was so calming to.
*Super* organized!!
Shaky hands
I grew up with the royal ballet but never had a room like this 😭😂 YOU ARE AMAZING PARENTS!
Super adorable! Watching this was literally the most xmas-y thing I've done this year, so that was really nice.
My Montessori daughter, and her Montessori son....he can even walk to his Montessori school as it is across the street...he goes to his bureau and the first top and first bottom. Always what is on top. Not a care, but he has shown us all from age 2 that that he loves MATH.
My son also loved NutCracker when he was around preschool age. He is now 21. After seeing this, I want to go out and buy my son a nutcracker!!!
4:51 tiny clothes are the cutest.Love Christmas, love the bedroom. ❤
R is so stinkin' cute!! And this room really befits his sophisticated taste ❤
Seeing The Young Dancer on the bookshelf was a blast from the past! I had that exact book when I too was a little ballet obsessed child
You need someone from the US to send you one of the Pride nutcrackers from Target. They’re a lot, but I kind of love them.
How much fun to see him interacting with it all.
@ good point, they always do have that dusty smell right out of the bag, plus washing them softens them, so its a win-win
I always had the low hanging rods in the closet so my kids could choose their own clothes. I found that anything Hanna Anderson got worn first. Followed by Gap clothes. Primarily because they had soft or no tags and were brightly colored and soft.
he is the calmest child
Baby he is adorable !!! I absolutely need you to know that there is a Nutcracker musical book that play the song of the opera fitting for the scene on each page, it's been a blast with my students. The merch looks lovely tho I have absolutely no more money
This mad me so so so happy! Thank you letting him experience his interests it's going to and does bring so much joy! Also love the books selection. One of hem reminds me of my childhood! Love books
So fun to watch, the casualness especially. Makes it much easier to watch and follow, and gives it a cosy vibe.
And watching this reminded me of a show i used to watch called dance academy, all about ballet and they were inclusive as well👌
And true, a lot of children's literature, though they have amazing art style, are actually really abstract drawings, and contain stories that don't make sense, don't have a beginning and an end, or use sentence that are too long with or complex(since anyone can write a book, they're not all equal when it comes to educational value). In my classes we also were taught to use more realistic drawings when teaching kids new vocab. And with animals, use of actual photographs was advised instead of drawings
Seeing the cupboard reminded me of my own cupboard. 85% rarely used, 15% of the same things, but it does help having a section of ready to wear things, makes it much less overwhelming👌🤓
What a wonderful life you're giving your little boy!
The End reveal music gives me such bernadette banner vibes. So cozy
Rupert is such a sweetheart! Glad he liked his room!
He looks so happy!! 🥰 "completely what I wanted" is such a badge of success, congrats!!
@4:42 the face lol, run away Claudia, run away! jk you guys are the best!
This was delightful! He is one lucky boy! This brought me a lot of joy 🙂❤️
Roo is so adorable! And so very loved.
I love that he loves the Nutcracker
Love the Nutcracker Duvet and pillow. Those are gorgeous!! So is the rest of the room. And Rupert is adorable!! That dancing at the end was also adorable.
One more time, where I think your lovely son is a national treasure. Great job on the room moms!
He is the cutest. I love how you interact with your child and how you give him the opportunity to grow into his own little person. One day, when I have (hopefully) a little child, I'l have to look up this video to get inspiration for its bedroom
Rupert is such a sweetie pie!
Rupert is such a charming child! And his room is delightful as well. I hope you all have a lovely holiday!
You two are fantastic parents!
oh this was so precious!!! you are such a wonderful little family
