In the midst of Don providing pertinent and fascinating information that answers the question we’re all wondering about, Howard interrupts to ask him about getting laid. Ugh.
No one in the band questioned whether Felder was a great player and played historic solos on their great songs, including Hotel California. Glenn Frey made it pretty clear in an interview that I saw that Felder wanted equal royalties share and Frey didnt want to give it to him, since he didn't write the songs. Now, you can argue how important historic lead solos are to songs, I understand that. But I also understand a writer not feeling he needed to share a straight percentage with a non-writer. This is how bands get wrecked frequently, over royalty splits.
Nowhere is it said this was about royalties but rather about the contract to share equally the income generated by the Band! This was not about royalties but about a legal agreement that was not followed by Frey and Henley!
Don is the musician’s musician. All about the song and playing your instrument well. No hang ups and really sweet. I’m sure there’s a side to him that’s uncompromising, just like any musician who’s good at their craft. I’ve recorded and toured with so many bands and musicians, so I know that even though Frey and Henley were notorious curmudgeons, there are probably a lot of things Felder left out. Nobody is a saint in any band.
Don has NEVER gotten his just rewards regarding his musical ability. He is fantastic in person . Just seems like a class act every time I seen him. Give Frey and Henley credit that was probably their smartest move ever. Love the Eagles but they were BETTER with Don in the band . 😊Is there anyone left on the planet that hasn’t listened to Hotel California solo of Walsh and Henley, Best ever … run through your mind for days after you hear any of it . Keep on Trucking Don !!!

As much as I love Felder and admire his vast talents, some of his comments should be taken with a whole heap of salt. When he tries to say that Henley's ego didn't like the spotlight being shined on the other members, that I found a bit suspect. I have always been a huge Eagles fan and all the members hold a special place to me. When I was a kid, I went to see them on the Long Run tour. I had seats in the first row and had rented a huge professional camera with a telescopic lens. Early in the show, Felder had noticed the camera and started playing to it. He would get into great Guitar God poses, which I was ecstatic about. But as the show went on, I wanted pictures of the other guys, but when I would aim the camera, Felder would deliberately step into the shot and ruin the photo. He would do this for every member downstage from him, Frey and Schmit. When I tried to get a photo of Henley on the drums, Felder would plant himself in my view. Even Walsh, who was the closest Eagle to my seat, when I would aim the camera at him, Felder would adopt the most outlandish pose to get the attention back on him. After the concert, my friend and I both commented about what a huge ego he had, so his words here ring more than a little false. And the next might seem callous, but let's consider numbers. Again, I loved all the seven Eagles equally, but after the break up of the band/leaving the band, Leading, Meisner, Schmit and Felder output of music barely registered as a blip. Walsh, who was famous before joining, had a couple of notable songs. Frey had a handful of genuine hits, "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong To The Night," but Henley was the powerhouse of hit song making, "Dirty Laundry," "The Boys of Summer," "All She Wants To Do Is Dance," "The Heart Of The Matter," etc. At least three quarters of the Eagles hits had Henley's name on it while only one hit had Felder's, along with a couple of great album tracks, but that one hit that Felder had also had Henley's name on it. In fact, what Felder forgot to mention that when Frey and Henley first heard "Mexican Reggae," as it was known and asked Felder to expound on it, Felder had forgotten the tune and had to relearn it from listening to his tape. Again, I admire Felder so much for his musical talents, but....
They talk about the GREED and it comes to mind of a story I heard long ago: A rich man came to a tribe on the steppe and wanted to buy some land, the elders said "Ok, you can have all the land you can walk off from here and back from sunrise to sunset", the man accepts and walks off at sunrise the next day to claim his land. He comes across rich fields and plants his stakes, then moves on untill he finds a river with fish and game, here he stakes his claim. He sits down to rest from his labor and falls asleep, awakening he sees the sun going down and must hasten back, hurrying back he stumbles in a hole breaking his leg. The Elders waiting for his return decide to go and find him the next day, following his stakes they find his life less body, being of kind heart they buiried him and went back to the village. How much land did the man need? 6 feet. The moral being....Be content with what you have, remember.. "you leave this world with more than what you came into it with!"
Could someone please share the title of the video (since sharing the actual video-link may not be allowed by YT) of the scene where Felder tells Walsh during the recording of Hotel California "You're showing" ? (The dialogue about it is heard from 1:22 - 2:40)
Hi, I think it's this one..."Eagles - Hotel California (Live 1977) (Official Video) [HD]" 🙂 There are also videos on UA-cam of the same concert at The Capital Centre in Largo, MD, March 21 1977 where they play 'One of these Nights' and a fantastic version of 'Rocky Mountain Way'. Turn it up!

You've being vague. Copyright is not vague@@jimbo33
Felder wrote one of the greatest autobiography rock books. Most read
Have a copy of it, it was very good to read!!!
Don has NEVER gotten his just rewards regarding his musical ability. He is fantastic in person . Just seems like a class act every time I seen him.
Give Frey and Henley credit that was probably their smartest move ever. Love the Eagles but they were BETTER with Don in the band .
😊Is there anyone left on the planet that hasn’t listened to Hotel California solo of Walsh and Henley,
Best ever … run through your mind for days after you hear any of it . Keep on Trucking Don !!!
Great Dude !!
How he is still so damn handsome??
That is exactly what I thought.
Arti really walked all over the hotel California story I wanted to hear how impressed he was with Henleys decision to release hotel California.
I think you need glasses
I have always loved Felder. I get the reason he "Went-other ways" from The Eagles. I wonder if he has any solo projects going?
Fielder was born on 9/21/1947. So if he was 60 (as he states) in this interview, the interview took place in 2007/08
Don Felder deserves a better interview. I don't believe Rick Beato has interviewed him yet. I think that could be amazing.
Don is a cool Guy
You rock!!!❤❤❤
His 'rented' house in Malibu was his purchase of the biggest Ranch in Malibu next to Olivia Newton John..Susan Felder came to see our band every night w Julie Bier..She wore gold when everyone was wearing Silver..Don drive a Porsche in '76..Aloha
They talk about the GREED and it comes to mind of a story I heard long ago:
A rich man came to a tribe on the steppe and wanted to buy some land, the elders said "Ok, you can have all the land you can walk off from here and back from sunrise to sunset", the man accepts and walks off at sunrise the next day to claim his land.
Turn it up!
It’s literally in this interview
Can Stern Shut Up and let Don give a complete answer!!
I know Right!!!!
I like Don Felder, he is the sound ⚡️🎸of “One Of This Nights”, my intro to The Eagles, but Don Henley and Glenn Frey went a long long way without him.
Haha. Dave Rutherford gets a shout out. QR77 Calgary when Dave was doing his talk show.
