I can't imagine Gokus' face when he takes a good look at "Goku Black" and realises that's not his body, but Gotens'. On top of that, he's also a Hybrid...with proper training, we have seen how Gohan can be. Oh crap...Goten Black is way stronger.
Imagine the fear of realizing it was Goten snapped some sense into him and he stopped being such an idiot from that point on in the series, would’ve been a great wake up call
People laughed about this theory back in the day but cmon, even if it was stupid it would have had Goten more depth and character development that everything DBZ, DBS and DBGT gave him
I think it would have went better to have Zamasu kidnap Goten and raise him into a dark, twisted agent of “justice” . That way his interaction with Goku and Trunks would be more personal, and cause them to hold back (at first) when fighting him. Use the fact that Goku was barely around during his childhood and that Trunks was always stronger and “looked down” on Goten to drive his rage. Even go as far as to have him turn on Zamasu caring not for his “grand plan” but driven by a need to destroy Goku and Trunks (and Vegeta) to prove he is the strongest.
Definitely would have preferred a brainwashed Goten or even Zamasu possession rather than body switch. Gotta keep Goten’s soul in the mix for that extra feels and suspense.

A major reason why this theory had legs was that Mai existing in Future Trunks' timeline made no sense and remains a glaring inconsistency. The believe was that we were witnessing a different timeline and, in my opinion, Goten being Goku Black would have been an amazing twist.

@@absolutemadlad5662 I frankly don't see the inconsistency here, there was enough time between the end of the frieza arc and the begin of the android arc for a wish like that to be made. The pilaf gang only have to make a wish during a time when the main cast are inactive. It also has the hilarious consequences of the dragon balls being render inactive by the time the androids show up.
I think an even worse scenario is if Zamasu kidnapped Goten and trained him for many years, psychologically breaking him until he became as vindictive and callous as himself. A proper Goten Black who is who Goten could become if he had a cruel father, as opposed to the much more wholesome relationship he has with Goku. And of course, if there were any way to bring present Goten into the forefront, and make him a prominent character during this arc, or after once his potential is recognized, that would be a plus.
Maybe as a "Part 2" Fused Zamasu arrives in the main timeline to taunt the Z Fighters. We could have a tragic series on our hands, like DC's Injustice. This could lead to Gohan stepping up once more to be a leader in yet another bad timeline, or draw out a battle where Beerus has to face an immortal being.
He gets a bit creeped out when sensing Moro for the first time, and sweats before fighting Jiren, but I dunno if I'd say those occasions were Goku being scared, more...concerned.
Finally! I've been waiting for this! Thanks Masako. Another interesting idea would be if Zamazu took Goten and indoctrinated him into becoming Goku Black, using the boy's insecurities with Goku against him. There could be a scene where Goten berates Goku for being a bad father and caring more for fighting than being with his family.
Kinda wonder how Gohan would react tbh. Like, not everything needs to be about Gohan, but Goten probably looked up to him. Gohan was basically the only Saiyan adult male in his life until he was 7. It was at least implied that Gohan's job was to take care of the family while Goku was in the afterlife. Even if we've passed that, it could bring up some memories for Gohan and have him draw parallels. That he's made his own family now and left the other one behind and stuff like this happens. Maybe that's what drives him in the Tournament of Power.
Pretty good What If, but what I was hoping for, and what I'd like to see in the future, was a version of the story where Goten Black really was just an evil Goten, rather than a body swaped Zamasu. Everyone always makes the joke of how overshadowed and useless Goten is. I think it would be cool to make that a part of Goten's character, that Zamasu sees this underappreciated son of Goku, and somehow molds him into a weapon against all mortals, partially of Goten's own volition. A genuine life or death father versus son battle is something Goku's never had to deal with before, and I'm curious how he'd handle it.
What if suggestions: 1. What if Zeno, in the beggining of his reign, decided to travel across the multiverse in order to better understand and bond with mortals? 2. What if Yamcha and Chiaotzu were in the TOP instead of Freeza and Roshi (Please NO jokes about them dying at the first second)?
Ahh yes the thing is real. This will be quality content. This would have been such an amazing thing if it was real back then, imagine Goten vs Trunks, the two are friends in the present and barely relevant but in this Arc they have their future counterparts in a dark vs encounter, and it is the main plot.
Nice Masasko I am glad that you are doing a what if on Goten. Goten has handled so poorly in Dragonball Super and I am glad you are giving him the spotlight that he deserves. Goten has so much potential as a character and I love him as a character.
One thing I always like the idea of is, Goten Black and Future Trunks becoming a forced Fusion, just to see what a evil Gotenks would be, and how they would even function.
Goku black will never not be disappointing for me, watching characters turn evil is literally the most interesting thing you can see a character go through besides turning good.

Glad to finally have your take on this! I was saying "Yay!" outloud when I saw the notification. Would the identity of Black be kept from Goten in the present timeline? Would the present timeline prepare for the return of Black and Zamasu when the saiyan's didn't return? Pretty dark to imagine the last moment's of this universe/timeline. This brought something up in my mind i'll bring up in the next roundtable I partake in!
I never thought Black was Goten for even a second. Corrupting various secondary characters could be fun, though. Like maybe in Perfect Cell's timeline Dabura could turn Mai into a demon (Dabura would survive a lot longer without Babidi having a source of energy to un-seal Buu, but what would Dabura do for kicks?).
I personally feel like they made it a Goten black arc instead of Goku black arc this would’ve been a easy S tier arc in the dragon ball franchise. For starters it would’ve been great character development for a underused goten , a emotional conflict for both Goku & trunks & everybody else . To see the innocent little goten turn into a cold blooded killer would literally shock everyone. Also goten would be a absolutely nightmare matchup because he’s a hybrid saiyan, being the youngest person ever to achieve the form & with the training from a supreme kai boy this arc would’ve been good 🤣
I would have let present zamasu stay alive and change for the better, similar to how present 18 ended up being so different from the one trunks dealt with. Showing that despite being the same person, that events and bonds can radically change the person.
Just had a bizarre idea: What if Zamasu screwed up the wish on Super Shenron, and ended up in Kid Gohan's body at the beginning of Z? He'd have to go through everything Gohan did in his youth, and would eventually come to learn that mortals aren't so bad, on the grounds that they can somehow survive everything that's been thrown at them.
That was pretty good, but I would’ve preferred if Goku Black were actually Goten, instead of Zamasu in Goten’s body. Zamasu could kidnap Goten and then groom him into becoming Goku Black by convincing him that Goku doesn’t actually care about him or something. Maybe, instead of wishing to have Goten’s body, he could make a wish that makes Goku act mean towards Goten or makes him forget about Goten and Zamasu uses that to trick him. Then Goten takes the name Goku Black as a sort of revenge.
Woho. That makes me want a What if, where Goku is training more with Goten and actually use his potential. Goten and Trunks really need the time they deserve. Gohan didnt wanted to fight. These 2 boys love it. We will never get to see it in the anime. But maybe in a What if? ;)
Yeah, I supported the Goten Black theory, for all it's flaws it could of actually been good development for Goten and (Kid) Trunks as well. Imagine if they knew that in another time period, for as strong as their best friend dynamic is in the present, Future Trunks had to do battle with an alternate Future Goten thanks to Zamasu's meddling, the two kids might of used that as an opportunity to stop seeing fighting as solely as a game and take training seriously. If that mentality actually stuck with the two of them they may even earned their chance in the T.O.P
Although this felt odd for you at first, this really can work better! I wouldn't say it would lead to the Zamasi's (heh) victory, but their story would have been more interesting with no real issues. Nice!
Hey Masako, what do you think about this: Super Hero is about a grown up (maybe 18-19 year old) Goten and Trunks, taking their training seriously and becoming a crazy powerful Gotenks (who always viewed himself as a sort of super hero already) in order to take on some new threat to Earth.
That would create a good development to Goten Character so much since Tournament and Buu saga and End of Z, and i loved him in DBGT too, but they just wasted his character in super, just like Trunks, Krillin, Piccolo and Gohan.
When I first saw the Goku Black arc, This never even crossed my mind, the little fellow was too pure an innocent in my eyes to have him take up such a sinister role.
My version would be Future Goten being stolen from Chi Chi while Gohan was training for the Androids. Because no one checks on her, she is basically devastated by losing her entire family. Years later, Future Goten is Goten Black and trained under Zamasu, wanting revenge for his family “abandoning” him. Present Goten and Trunks hitch a ride to the future and see Goten Black force a Potara fusion with Future Trunks, creating Future Trunten Black. Goten and Trunks would take some insult to this and try Gotenks to stop them, ultimately not succeeding. Vegito fuses and kicks Trunten’s butt, dissolving the fusion. Then Future Zamasu shows up, exposites his plan, including the lies to keep Goten Black on his side, and ultimately it comes down to Kid Goten and Goten Black coming to a heart to heart, while Future Zamasu is locked up in the Mafuba and given to Gowasu to watch over. Thoughts?
Personally i think goten black could have worked a different way. Heres how it would have gone in my mind (just the general jist): Goten would start to resent chichi for her overbareing strictness, and goku for not standing up to her to let goten be his own person. He would grow more anxty towards his parents making him more aggressive. Zamasu would play on this anger and manipulate it to direct it to all mortals, and training him to get stronger, similar to how whis trains goku and vegeta, only more intense and constant (unlocking god ki and ssj rose, just to keep that form cos i like it) Over the years, zamasu could continue to manipulate and brainwash goten, till he was as evil as the goku black we got in the anime. TL;DR: goten rezents his parents, zamasu uses that to brainwash him. Edit: I think goten growing estranged to his parents would be a more interesting (and realistic) development for goten. He could still be close to his brother and friends, but i think that we saw gohan basiclly fill his mums dreams for him, cos he didnt want to be a fighter, but from what weve seen, goten does, so not being able to forfil his wishes would really bother him. Id like to see goten grow intelligent like gohan (since hes been studying to this point in his life amd he wouldnt want to be uneducated like goku) hed be strong amd compassonate like goku (since he had a good heart like his dad) but hed have a "dont hold back" fighting mentality just wanting to express his desire for combat. Id like to see him develop a closer relationship woth someone like vegeta, who coukd help him realise what it truely means to have saiyan blood and who respect gotens desire to embrace his sauyan heratage unlike gohan, and (to some degree, especilly with his new relationship with mai) trunks. Please let me know what you think in the comments😊 ive had this idea since i first heard the goten theory and heres how it played out in my head😅 i think i said it back at the time, but i cant remember, but since were on the subject i thought id bring it up here😊
I personally liked the theory that Goku Black was a counterpart of Goku from universe 6, and was the reason their Earth was so destroyed, and thus was brought back along with the Earth with the wish from the u6 arc. Now, keep in mind I’m aware the multiverse doesn’t work that way in DBS, but i thought it was fun to think about
Damn, I remember being laughed at for wanting this theory to be true. This would have been SO MUCH more emotional. Cuz the way I thought, Goten's birth, I thought, should have changed many things in Trunks' future, but i guess it didn't work like that. It would have been so much more emotional for everyone involved. Trunks having to fight his best friend. Goku having to witness his own son as a demon who terrorizes the future. It would have hurt, and would have introduced some welcome drama and true emotion to the series

Id honestly love if Goten and Trunks would just grow up a little bit, at this point in the timeline we should had Teen Trunks from the History Of Trunks special, and i can imagine a teen Goten would look either like End of Z Goten or GT Goten but shorter.
I have a What If suggestion, if I may be so bold What if Chi-Chi was the Saiyan? If Chi-Chi, still raised by the Ox King, had been the alien invader. Contrasting that, Goku would have been born an earthling, still raised by Grandpa Gohan. A reversed dynamic in terms of species instincts
I do find it funny that Zamasu thinks Goku having god ki, is going against the will of the gods...... only if he knew it was the will of Beerus that brought out the Saiyan god powers 👍
If you do a part two of tthis at all... I'm not sure how you would, but if The Three manage to take them out somehow, what happens then? Fused Zamasu, now gone? What does this leave Goku like?

Goku black will never not be disappointing for me, watching characters turn evil is literally the most interesting thing you can see a character go through besides turning good.

Glad to finally have your take on this! I was saying "Yay!" outloud when I saw the notification. Would the identity of Black be kept from Goten in the present timeline? Would the present timeline prepare for the return of Black and Zamasu when the saiyan's didn't return? Pretty dark to imagine the last moment's of this universe/timeline. This brought something up in my mind i'll bring up in the next roundtable I partake in!
I never thought Black was Goten for even a second.
Corrupting various secondary characters could be fun, though. Like maybe in Perfect Cell's timeline Dabura could turn Mai into a demon (Dabura would survive a lot longer without Babidi having a source of energy to un-seal Buu, but what would Dabura do for kicks?).

I personally feel like they made it a Goten black arc instead of Goku black arc this would’ve been a easy S tier arc in the dragon ball franchise. For starters it would’ve been great character development for a underused goten , a emotional conflict for both Goku & trunks & everybody else . To see the innocent little goten turn into a cold blooded killer would literally shock everyone.
Also goten would be a absolutely nightmare matchup because he’s a hybrid saiyan, being the youngest person ever to achieve the form & with the training from a supreme kai boy this arc would’ve been good 🤣

I would have let present zamasu stay alive and change for the better, similar to how present 18 ended up being so different from the one trunks dealt with. Showing that despite being the same person, that events and bonds can radically change the person.
Just had a bizarre idea: What if Zamasu screwed up the wish on Super Shenron, and ended up in Kid Gohan's body at the beginning of Z?
He'd have to go through everything Gohan did in his youth, and would eventually come to learn that mortals aren't so bad, on the grounds that they can somehow survive everything that's been thrown at them.

That was pretty good, but I would’ve preferred if Goku Black were actually Goten, instead of Zamasu in Goten’s body. Zamasu could kidnap Goten and then groom him into becoming Goku Black by convincing him that Goku doesn’t actually care about him or something.
Maybe, instead of wishing to have Goten’s body, he could make a wish that makes Goku act mean towards Goten or makes him forget about Goten and Zamasu uses that to trick him. Then Goten takes the name Goku Black as a sort of revenge.
Woho. That makes me want a What if, where Goku is training more with Goten and actually use his potential.

Yeah, I supported the Goten Black theory, for all it's flaws it could of actually been good development for Goten and (Kid) Trunks as well. Imagine if they knew that in another time period, for as strong as their best friend dynamic is in the present, Future Trunks had to do battle with an alternate Future Goten thanks to Zamasu's meddling, the two kids might of used that as an opportunity to stop seeing fighting as solely as a game and take training seriously. If that mentality actually stuck with the two of them they may even earned their chance in the T.O.P

Hey Masako, what do you think about this: Super Hero is about a grown up (maybe 18-19 year old) Goten and Trunks, taking their training seriously and becoming a crazy powerful Gotenks (who always viewed himself as a sort of super hero already) in order to take on some new threat to Earth.
Isn't the idea that Goten is evil and acting alone, rather than just having his body stolen by Zamasu? Otherwise there's hardly any difference..
Where was gohan in the universe where goku body was taken? They never clarified what gohan was doing even in the anime or manga
That would create a good development to Goten Character so much since Tournament and Buu saga and End of Z, and i loved him in DBGT too, but they just wasted his character in super, just like Trunks, Krillin, Piccolo and Gohan.

When I first saw the Goku Black arc, This never even crossed my mind, the little fellow was too pure an innocent in my eyes to have him take up such a sinister role.
That's part of why it would be such a good idea. The contrast would be SAVAGE!
My version would be Future Goten being stolen from Chi Chi while Gohan was training for the Androids. Because no one checks on her, she is basically devastated by losing her entire family.
Years later, Future Goten is Goten Black and trained under Zamasu, wanting revenge for his family “abandoning” him. Present Goten and Trunks hitch a ride to the future and see Goten Black force a Potara fusion with Future Trunks, creating Future Trunten Black. Goten and Trunks would take some insult to this and try Gotenks to stop them, ultimately not succeeding. Vegito fuses and kicks Trunten’s butt, dissolving the fusion. Then Future Zamasu shows up, exposites his plan, including the lies to keep Goten Black on his side, and ultimately it comes down to Kid Goten and Goten Black coming to a heart to heart, while Future Zamasu is locked up in the Mafuba and given to Gowasu to watch over.

Personally i think goten black could have worked a different way. Heres how it would have gone in my mind (just the general jist):
Goten would start to resent chichi for her overbareing strictness, and goku for not standing up to her to let goten be his own person. He would grow more anxty towards his parents making him more aggressive. Zamasu would play on this anger and manipulate it to direct it to all mortals, and training him to get stronger, similar to how whis trains goku and vegeta, only more intense and constant (unlocking god ki and ssj rose, just to keep that form cos i like it) Over the years, zamasu could continue to manipulate and brainwash goten, till he was as evil as the goku black we got in the anime.
TL;DR: goten rezents his parents, zamasu uses that to brainwash him.
Edit: I think goten growing estranged to his parents would be a more interesting (and realistic) development for goten. He could still be close to his brother and friends, but i think that we saw gohan basiclly fill his mums dreams for him, cos he didnt want to be a fighter, but from what weve seen, goten does, so not being able to forfil his wishes would really bother him. Id like to see goten grow intelligent like gohan (since hes been studying to this point in his life amd he wouldnt want to be uneducated like goku) hed be strong amd compassonate like goku (since he had a good heart like his dad) but hed have a "dont hold back" fighting mentality just wanting to express his desire for combat. Id like to see him develop a closer relationship woth someone like vegeta, who coukd help him realise what it truely means to have saiyan blood and who respect gotens desire to embrace his sauyan heratage unlike gohan, and (to some degree, especilly with his new relationship with mai) trunks.

I personally liked the theory that Goku Black was a counterpart of Goku from universe 6, and was the reason their Earth was so destroyed, and thus was brought back along with the Earth with the wish from the u6 arc.
Now, keep in mind I’m aware the multiverse doesn’t work that way in DBS, but i thought it was fun to think about

Damn, I remember being laughed at for wanting this theory to be true. This would have been SO MUCH more emotional. Cuz the way I thought, Goten's birth, I thought, should have changed many things in Trunks' future, but i guess it didn't work like that. It would have been so much more emotional for everyone involved. Trunks having to fight his best friend. Goku having to witness his own son as a demon who terrorizes the future. It would have hurt, and would have introduced some welcome drama and true emotion to the series

Ah man Goten Black that would really effect Goku, but I don't know I think they would call Future Zeno quicker if they couldn't defeat Fused Zamasu. Anyways overall a good one-shot what if, and looking forward to your next video soon.

Id honestly love if Goten and Trunks would just grow up a little bit, at this point in the timeline we should had Teen Trunks from the History Of Trunks special, and i can imagine a teen Goten would look either like End of Z Goten or GT Goten but shorter.
