What’s great about this whole SOTY debacle is that I see more now than ever a general public love and appreciation for Nyjah that might not have existed as openly as it does now… almost like Tyshawn won the trophy, but Nyjah won the majority of people’s respect, perspective, and hearts. That’s a much more worthy “trophy” to receive in my opinion. Congrats Nyjah.
Nyjah puts his money where his mouth is. Not pushing subliminal hate, no propaganda, not looking for a handout. Just puts his blood sweat and tears on his board. That’s a true THRASHER 💯
@@southstaronline Tyshawn did an interview calling out companies for not being black owned but taking inspiration from black people, he also said skateboarding isn’t competitive enough and that’s why he talks shit about other people plus he’s always posting emotional stories on IG trying to shit on regular skaters because we’re “broke and depressed” for commenting on why Nyjah got robbed
@@southstaronline think along the lines of “backhanded compliments”… meaning, Nyjah seems to be straight forward with his words and intentions, not pushing out hate towards another person or group in such a way that’s just hidden enough you might not catch it the first time you see it. Nyjah is a real dude and for lack of a better description, genuine.
100%, Thrasher been straight trash for a long time ever since Phelps died. I wasn’t a fan of him but he kept the shit real. No one has skated like nyjah in the history of skateboarding, nor put out a video part near anything close to what he put out.
Nyjah Huston is a legend . Its going to be a long journey to recovery... but once he's fully recovered I believe Nyjah will be makin bangers with a vengeance.
I genuinely don’t think it’s gonna take him off his board for that long. I think he’s already rolling around and continues to feel stronger on that knee. He mentioned in his bail reveal that he can actually get both his knees stronger than before with his new PT program. I think he was already working out to an extent but I’m sure the injury has him really working on every thing he can improve. Also the surgery evidently went much better than expected and so the healing time would be less. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back to hitting spots in 3-4 months. Hope he comes back just as hungry, Sean Malto was never able to get back to his old ability after breaking his ankle. That was sad to see and hope Nyjah is the opposite.
I love Nyjah. He is maybe my favorite skater. I view him as the most talented skater when it comes to clean, consistent, hard street and park tricks. I've looked up to him ever since he was a little kid. He's always blown our minds. I hope he recovers quickly! This is a big and tough learning experience for him, and I hope he can come back strong.
Houston is skateboarding’s No. 23. Nike should make him a jersey. He’s the true 2022 SOTY. No disrespect, but Tyshawn should publicly declare Nyjah the 2022 champ. Tyshawn is obviously amazing too. Nyjah went so big and was so clean. I know Thrasher likes to keep it gully and they favor hardcore. But Nyjah’s tricks were on another level. So clean. So supremely clean. And big. And gnarly. Big gnarly and clean. Bravo, my man. It was pure joy watching him land those four on the floor. Like watching Picasso with a blick or Jackson Pollock paint no. 5. Bravo, holmes.
Nyjah put blood, sweat & tears in skateboarding because that’s the main thing of his life since he was a kid. I remember as a kid watching his old element part when he got the dreads on & look at him as the kid that i wanted to be. Now seing him continue to push himself & skateboarding in general to another level is so great to see ! He is one of the biggest legend in this culture for ever, what ever the haters gonna talk. With his last part he prove to anyone that he push boundaries of what we can do, for me he is the king of handrails & one of the legend of this culture, much love & respect from France 🇫🇷
Yo homie, your legacy as one of, if not THE best street skateboarder all time past, present, or future is on lock. Your work, your accomp, all you've done for skateboarding and achieved is set in granite. You've accomplished it all homeboy. As a 50 year old skateboarder who started skateboarding in 1983 and who skateboarded my whole life, every single day until a back injury caused me to require a spinal fusion surgery in 2019, and which has completely taken skateboarding away from me entirely, I relate and identify completely with what you've shared here. One day your body simply won't be able to skateboard anymore, IF you've pushed yourself to your own maximum potential. At that point you'll be left with your personal skateboarding achievements, not in terms of contest wins, medals, or 1st place trophies. Rather you'll be left with your own internal satisfaction knowing that you did your best. Skateboarding is such a high risk sport, but for real skateboarders it's much more than a sport, it's who we are. It's our identity and how we look at the world differently. It's how society sees us and how we see a world as our own personal skatepark filled with problems to be solved. When I came out of major back surgery I couldn't move from the waist down except for one left big toe that I could barely wiggle and move, but it was simply walking again, relearning how to walk that became my next "trick" that I had to make. It took six weeks to relearn how to walk with daily physical therapy and strength training that gave me back my mobility and which required a total shift in my perspective. I had to find gratitude and happiness in the most basic things, like walking to the car instead of using a wheelchair to get from point A to point B. It required accepting life as it comes and the reality of the unpredictability of life, rather than being resentful and depressed because my unrealistic expectations weren't met, like I'd be able to skateboard forever after a lifetime of involvement in a physical activity in which every part of the body is placed at such high risk for I jury. I relearned to walk, reset my personal goals, rediscovered old and new passions that I could use to replace skateboarding as my healthy physical and psychological outlet, and moved forward saying this prayer every morning. Each day when I wake up I thank God for what's been given, what's been taken, and what's left. And then I make a gratitude list and remain filled with gratitude that I'm still physically able to do things that many less fortunate people are not. I'm grateful that I have the financial blessings that have given me the ability to buy some really nice guns that I now use to pursue my new hobby of shooting and collecting of limited production modern tactical firearms (MP5's and B&T APC9, Shadow Systems MR920L Elite,Sig Sauer XLp365 Spectre Comp, etc. I still enjoy life and have my skateboarding memories which are now enough. Gratitude for "what's left" is the answer and being stoked to watch you and Jagger, who ironically enough is a kid I've been skateboarding with since he was a little 8 year old prodigy, just enjoying watching you two killers battle it out for 1st place is enough for me. Then I walk to the whip, and cruise out to the desert to hit targets and empty magazines. All the while accepting the one universal truth, that everything is temporary and that appreciating what you have when you have it, as opposed to living in the past over what you had and what you were, or in the future that you'll finally be happy and content when you finally get this or achieve that, is the key to being happy and truly at peace. Living in the present and doing the best to your own capabilities, leaves you one day in the future totally content with the life you've lived and the achievements you've accomplished. And Nyjah, you've accomplished as much if not more than any person in the history of mankind to ever touch a skateboard. Your legacy is eternal brother.
Yo nyjah…. There’s a lot of haters out there man. And all I gotta say is your positivity outshines any shade that the haters send your way. Stay blessed and keep skating until you straight up cannot walk anymore 🤙🏽🙏🏽
Dude this is really inpiring to me! Just broke my left patellar tendon doing a nollie kgrind down a 10 stairs rail almost at the same time as you nyjah. After 15 years skating im facing a real bad injury with 2 surgeries, one for tendon reconstruction and sadly another one due to an infection….still dealing with a long recovery journey but i don’t want to be hopeless!
Everyone knows nyjah the true SOTY, he may never get it but anyone who actually skates knows nyjah is prolly one of the best rail skaters of all time much respect
After all you've accomplished, your biggest years are yet to come. The love for you is bigger than the hate. Thank you for everything. I tore my acl and left and right meniscus, it's hard to come back from. Major respect
After skating for 30+ years, I know when your 43 like myself those spills you'll feel every day in multiple ways, but some how you don't stop. And I ain't rich ha
Well bro, just consider yourself lucky to not have been injured earlier in your career because I had an injury such as yours that basically stopped my snowboarding career so I understand and I was never the same afterwards
I just met Nyjah and Domo yesterday here in Seattle. They pulled up to skate a little rail spot thats at a church next door to my apartment building.. Suuuupper fcking random...
Jesus Nyjah wanted his Need That part to have “a couple more last tricks.” Wtf that part is literally 10 mins of enders already. I don’t know if that huge part will ever be surpassed (well this year in general, Need That, Shine On, and Side Mission all had loads of bangers). Man Nyjah was skating on a level nobody ever has just before the injury. Hoping he can get back to that level again. Get better soon Jah, skateboarding needs you. Nobody has progressed street skater as much as you have.
soty in my book, awesome work this year. being great isnt a failt and you deserved more, i had have hoped some recognition. keep having fun on the board, if anything people saw how unfair the *establishment* was in skating, keep pushing 😊
I’d argue the hardest part ever! I was shocked when he said he wanted a few more last clips. The part is already 12 mins of enders! Need That and Shine On are both up there with gnarliest skating ever filmed
Jealous of Nyjah and how if he gets hurt he knows he has access to the best doctors and all the resources of Nike. Not to take anything away from Nyjah, he’s the man and my soty but honestly, my skating would get bigger too if I knew a corporation as big as Nike had a vested interest in my well being
Mad respect for Nyjah. However I couldn't help but make a face when he was talking about not drinking soda, while always having a Monster logo visible on him...
What’s great about this whole SOTY debacle is that I see more now than ever a general public love and appreciation for Nyjah that might not have existed as openly as it does now… almost like Tyshawn won the trophy, but Nyjah won the majority of people’s respect, perspective, and hearts. 100% bro! Nyjah was the real winner… like always. Dude never looses lol.
I hope you read this Nyjah. You’re the GOAT (Suicu 2nd place tho).
Nyjah won in the long run here. youre right.
Serious!!! ♥
That trophy is $10k though...
Drop more merchandise bro
Nyjah puts his money where his mouth is. Not pushing subliminal hate, no propaganda, not looking for a handout. Just puts his blood sweat and tears on his board. That’s a true THRASHER 💯
Can you expound on subliminal hate?

thrasher has lost all credibility. Go woke get broke.

Oh no. That trump lie mentality is spreading to skateboarding
@Kilmonger goddamn, that's one hell of a ratioed right there.
Give this man his flowers while he is still skating at his best and still with us! Skater of the Decade!
Nyjah is open in the time in his life. Greatness comes from being Humble. His greatest moment in skating is now!

Everybody embrace nyjahs love for skateboarding while we still got him
Can't help but think of Kobe Bryant energy anytime i see this guy, been a fan of the guy since his days on eS.

Nyjah's Dad knew to keep him off the soda's and the crap
Nyjah is always working on something new
Nyjah content is always good content. Heal fast champ!
The whole skateboarding community should create some type of prize and give it to him. He deserves it.
The real Skater of the Year! 🎉
