Death Valley in a Heat Wave - The 130º Adventure
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2024
- What is Death Valley like in a heat wave? What does it feel like to stand, walk, even hike in temperatures above 125°? How fast does a popsicle melt? Can you cook an egg in a frying pan without any flame? These are the questions we attempt to answer as we chase the hottest temperatures ever recorded on planet earth, in this century at least.
Death Valley, the hottest place on earth. On Aug 16, 2020 a record 130° air temperature was recorded, the hottest temperature recorded on the planet in 107 years. The current recognized world record was the famous 134° temperature set in Death Valley at Furnace Creek in 1913. That record has come under scrutiny however, and along with several other record highs, could be thrown out. If this happens, as seems likely, the 130°F temperatures recorded on Aug 16 will be the hottest verifiable air temperatures recorded on earth. Less than 48 hours later, during the peak of the heat wave, we arrive on the scene in Death Valley. Will the record be broken? Can we survive 130°? And seriously, how long does the average popsicle last in that kind of heat?
Come along on one heck of a high heat adventure, to Death Valley. It don’t get no hotter than this!

Surprised how many comments are about us wearing long sleeves. LONG SLEEVES are ESSENTIAL for Desert Survival. Think Bedouin or Desert soldiers… you dont see them in tank tops. The air, sun, and heat radiation is so hot, and the evaporation is so intense at these temperatures that LONG sleeves are a huge survival MUST. Any quick google search will prove the point. Just leaving this comment since so many people clearly don’t know. Here’s some links below;

but why dark colored flannel?
that's also why you see guys riding camels in the desert in old movies wearing long robes and such. btw did you get wrist tan lines? i swear your hands looked darker at the end of the day.
Justin see story! below
Miss Bun Boy ☹️
Your comments on the Batman 89 video aren’t working for some reason.
I couldn’t stop thinking what if your car dies
AHHHHH don't worry!!!! It was a rental .
Word
@@ronwatson5996 they would be stranded unless someone drove by they would die within a short time lol rental doesnt matter
Then you’re toast.
That's exactly what I'm researching now
I am from India my friend and I share your love from route 66 even though I'll probably never see it in this lifetime I saw it's beauty through your eyes and lens. Thank you for that!
I went there July 23, 1981 and it was also a heat wave year. We did not get out of the car from near the beginning of the Valley until we got to Furnace Creek. When I got out at Furnace Creek it was a feeling that I will never forget. The wind was blowing and it was scary. The clerk at the front desk at the hotel looked at us like we were idiots for even being there. The next morning when I got out of bed I will never forget- I went out on the balcony and it was still dark and about the coolest time of day or night and there was a mercury thermometer on the wall that read 118 degrees.
dam, you guys were absolutely insane! i can't stand 90 degree heat here on the east coast, i can't imagine what 130 degree heat feels like.
Same
I’m not in Death Valley but there is still a piece of melted tire permanently stuck to our SoCal desert driveway from a 127 degree day about 5 years ago. It’s a terrifying level of hot! I’m glad you managed to stay safe while adventuring 👍
“Sizzle me Timbers!” That’s absolutely fantastic, thank you for your documentation of such extreme temperatures in Death Valley.
The Badwater ultramarathon runs through Death Valley, the runners have to run on the white lines on the road so their shoes don't melt. Cool vid.
OMG. Great episode. Most memorable quote..."I can't see out of my right eye." From off camera!
THANKS! for the tour! Enjoyed! it vicariously through the 2 of You!
You are the only UA-camr that ACTUALLY made me entertained for 45 minutes straight! Nice to meet your brother!
I was waiting for a recreation of Clark Griswold hiking through the desert in Vacation! Maybe in another one. Thanks for the video, Justin!
I was in Las Vegas when it was 115 and I thought my skin was going to catch on fire.
130 Degrees. Justin's brother wears heavy cotton shirt over t-shirt. Yoiks!
You better... if not your skin will scorch
Thanks for the laughs Justin and Seth. Need this after a rough week. My mother past last Friday suddenly so the more laughs the better.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers
Very sorry for your loss 😢
Awee. Thoughts n Prayers
When Justin started to knee down I was thinking “that’s a horrible idea, hopefully he remembers the asphalt is really hot and stands up” That’s gonna leave a mark XP
Interesting and I always wanted to go there. Love your videos. Take care and be safe Justin. Prayers for you and Ally.
Thank you for the sweat and tears😷🌞🌡 You and your brother are great together. We'd love to see more. My family loves and appreciates all of the hard work you put into a vlog. Wishing you much success and happiness.
Keep up the great work Justin! Love your videos!
This is excellent content, Justin. Well done!
I feel the heat stroke setting in just watching this! D: great video!
OMGoodness I can't believe you did that! I have had several heat strokes, so not a thing I would ever consider. You nut! But we love you. Glad you and your brother are ok.
This was fascinating. Love your vlogs, Justin. Stay safe and cool!
Wow what an amazing adventure. I enjoyed the video. Wow death valley can be a killer glad you guys made it ok and keep more videos like this comming. 😉
I cannot imagine walking in that kind of heat. Great vlog Justin. You and your brother did a great job.
Last July we made it to the Hoover Dam in July and it was about 101° outside and we nearly died on the dam! You guys are serious troopers for lasting that long outside in Death Valley! Fantastic video; thanks for bringing us along.
yep...you sir are insane....ly awesome keep up the great work my friend.
"Meanwhile the camera is in the ice chest with the string cheese." LOL
An iconic duo we didn’t know we needed!
What an adventure! 🔥🔥🔥 Thanks Justin and Seth!
You've Done Your Duty
Another fascinating video by JustinScarred. Keep up the good work, Justin!
Man what a great video. I've always wanted to go to bed water and you did it in the middle of a heat wave. That's balls dude.
This was a really fun video! You guys certainly have courage to brave that kind of heat and I am glad you had your brother with you for safety reasons! I loved seeing the amiable rapport you two have. Funny and nice runs in the family! Kudos on the Seinfeld pretzels joke and getting the pic with 130 degrees on the sign!!
Descending into the depths!! Crazy hot, and I'm from Phoenix so I know what hot can be. Just glad you made it out OK!! Keep up the good work!!
You always put a smile 😃 on your blogs Thank you for all you do. Take Care
Freaking love your videos. Keeping me sane during the pandemic. And love that you nerd out on the 130. Death valley is such a cool
And wild place. So many things to see. Awesome vid!
Sitting here in the AC and watching this actually made me even MORE cold and I started shivering 😂
Dude, you're a beast. My daughter and I love your channel. Thank you!
This is incredible ! I want to visit in december . it is sooooo cool you did this !!
He's like your chill twin!
OK. When you knelt on the road..... burst into laughter! Hysterical.
such a bold and brave adventure. love coming back to this video.
Great video. Thanks for taking one for the team. ‘Like breathing a hairdryer’ Best description ever!
Loved the intro Justin I laughed a few times !!😎I couldn't help but think you kind of reminded me of ol clark , like on family vacation!😂😂
I live in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs/Coachella[duh]) and we hit 122 the other day and 125 a few years back... you step outside and think "I can handle this, Im good" and about a minute later, you realize that you can't. Its that hot. The human body starts to cook at 120, its not a fun feeling to have sweat instantly form and evaporate without any cooling effects. The heat feels like a 50lb weight on your shoulders, and the reflective heat from the ground is even worse, like being pushed hard into your chin by someone from below. Our pool was about 101 degrees tonight, kinda felt like a spa. Summer sucks!
Double edit; everyrhing he is describing is about right!
That was insane! I can’t believe you guys actually were out there in 130°!
I thought you guys were pretty badass till I saw that baby girl bossing it at 10:37
100% Crazy guys! Thanks looks amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
Glad you survived! You now have me beat by 4 degrees - my hottest is 126. I can vouch for that oven blast feeling, and I remember having to use my t-shirt to be able to hold the car door handle. "It's a dry heat" only applies up to about 120 in my opinion.
Another awesome video!!!
Always love videos featuring Seth!
This was a really cool video! Thank you
Informative and entertaining!! Awesomely fun!!👍👍
THANKS Justin for taking us there and feeling the heat for us fun time watching LOL
Wow! That was crazy to watch, I can't even imagine how the two of you could stand that for so long. It was amazing to see though. Thanks for showing us what it was like. The scenery was beautiful. Sorry about the loss of your brother's frying pan.
Loved the video! I hike the Mojave desert a lot. I have wanted to go down during this heatwave you have recorded! Thanks for providing a vicarious experience. I am always amazed on how people do not wear appropriate clothes. I find a long sleeved cotton T-shirt, cotton pants(light texture), and Wide brim hat is very effective.
I am glad you guys made it safely! -Ron
Thank YOU for picking up the popsicle sticks! Love your vlogs.
LLLLOVE'd your HOT Video! Was curious to know what visiting Death Valley would bed like.... on a Hot day! Guess what, we All know now! Thanks for posting, along with great information and what to prepare for!!! Awesome experience!
“Quick someone breath on it” had me busting out. You guys are awesome and frickin funny!!!
Thanks for sharing this video.. awesome!!
I was fully ready to go lol , but really enjoyed you two
Missed you bro! Love your videos 🤗
This was fun to watch 😂 loved it!
If I played a drinking game with a 1/4 shot every time I heard “hot” in this video, I’d have to go to the hospital 🥴. Lol great video!
Great video. Thanks for video and enthusiasm
he knows heat like the back of his palm. Thanks for the ride, its 40 below in maine in august
Fun fact: The thermometer is 134 feet tall to commemorate the hottest temp in Death Valley ever
One of your best videos ever !! love seeing you and your brother!!! hilarious 🙂🤣😂I’m glad you didn’t die out there 🔥 😀😂😄☺️❤️🥰
Holy crap, Julio is a cannibal! 😳...🤣
Awesome video as always! I got hot just watching it, lol!
That's some serious heat! Thanks for the adventure.
Crazy 🔥! Thanks Justin, im enjoying your video from my air conditioned house 😎
One of your best episodes !!!
So cool Awesome job guys!
Really enjoyed this one 👍🏻
Awesome once again.
It was 100 F in some places in the western Pacific Northwest during this...which is remarkable.
Glad you guys are safe.
I totally was thinking of going out there in that heat. I think you convinced me to wait till winter.
I liked your little adventure. I grew up in Reno, NV. I know the desert. Yes, respect the desert. Drink water constantly. I like your long sleeve shirt idea. I use a wet shirt and wet cloth around my neck. I miss the smell of sagebrush. I also miss the quail in Reno. It's so much fun to see the little family walking in a straight line down the sidewalk.
Wow, this vid is a hot one! Way to burn through the quagmire of verbosity and fire away with the heat descriptions! Can’t even believe the scalding tenacity of the two of you being out there blasting through a furnace. Great job roasting the trip!
Good show, very cool, thank you.
The first time I went there was with my mom on my 21st birthday (Vegas trip) and it was in a torrential rainstorm. The roads were so flooded and my mom was crying but wouldn't let me drive the rental car because I wasn't insured. The temperature was 114-115° and the rain didn't bring it down at all!
Brilliant video :)
Yes, I have been there. You are very brave to go there right now. Stay Safe!
Great video!
Central valley CA reached 110 so I took a glimpse of what death valley was at the time! That's cool you were there
I was thinking of heading out there to film for my show. but said HELL no it is too hot. glad someone did it! like stepping into an oven.
Awesome video, your brother needs one of your black hats. Stay cool 😎, we all need to see your next adventure.
Awe you were so close to me in Pahrump. I get to see Death Valley from my front door. And as we always say...At least it's a dry heat😥
Thanks Justin, stuck inside in my house in the Uk, haven’t gone out since March, it great to see the outside world.
You really MELTED my heart!
You've had some great videos, but I think you said it best...this one was REALLY hot!
This was good and interesting.
Great video! Glad to see you're making the most of the situation! Thanks for entertaining us. #randomland
The black shirt On the record heat day was smart & The bug mark on your windshield 🤣. Otherwise very nice video once again Justin.
Great Video!
dude that was awesome justin and seth thank you you should try and have seth in your videos more often im not saying you have to create another channel (just subtitle it randomland brothers) you guys had me laughing the entire video, also the screenshot to this made me think...uncharted, which is going to make others think the same thing i have all 3 games i can't wait till they make and release the actual film !!
36:27 I love that you started to sing a GHOST song- Cirice
I cooked a Hot Pocket on my windshield while visiting about 12 years ago
