ok a couple of points the E and the s have the same suspension, seat, ergos etc. so the s is not more comfotable in that regard.
the only difference in gearing is the sprockets so it's easily changed either way.
now the big difference is the E has 24% more power s is 39hp at the flywheel E is 48hp.
the e model is lighter and has wider footpegs.
E model is street legal in australia and is still in production (2000-2022 so far) and new zealand it has a full rear subframe, lights etc and 100% capable of long distance adv riding fully loaded up or hitting tight singles.
don't put your limitations on the drz400E in australia it's won stock and modified class in desert races, a national enduro title, a national motocross title and even some pro level super cross round wins in the past and is just as capable today as it was then.

I have the drz400s with the basic mods and I set the suspension for my weight. Just uploaded 2 vids to show it is very capable.

The motors share the bulk of the same DNA, but are offered in completely different states of tune. Their seat-of-the-pants experience is akin to Jekyll & Hyde.
400&E models vs S/SM motor differences:
400&E have a lighter weight machined crankshaft that further compliments the free revving over-square bore.
400&E have a thinner head gasket and thus run a higher compression ratio
400&E cam shafts shift the motor’s torque profile further up in RPM to maximize HP. The S/SM cams maximize idle and partial throttle torque for street use and “dank woolies”
None of the DRZ models have a cush drive rear hub, but the S/SM motors have a spring mass damper on the counter balancer drive gear that adds flywheel weight and damping, further smoothing low rpm behavior, at the expense of some additional noise.
400&E models have a 39mm flat slide pumper carb that favors mid to top end power, S/SM have a 36mm CV carb that favors off-idle torque and fine throttle control.
400&E models have a 1mm larger exhaust header pipe and a comparatively free-flowing muffler.
400&E have a more aggressive ignition map that in combination with their compression ratio requires the use of premium gas.
That’s just the motors..the chassis differences throw even more wood onto the fire. 😮

Sounds like your E just needs some TLC. The E is not a “on road bike” the s is a road bike.
I like the E better because it’s got more power. Better off Rad. And it can be easily plated in most states. It’s also fun to ride on the road too!!
The e has a better carb and it has a hot cam. It can also be uncorked for some more punch.

The E stands for Everyday! The S stands for Sometimes lol. You see what I'm trying to say here haha

So I've just asked someone WHY they had two radiator coils on their DRz? Only to learn that the "E" version comes w/ the 2nd
cooler for the bike. That might explain additional HP but that I don't know for sure. As I look for a 1st bike I saw this 400E
version today but I do not see them offered by Suzuki. Interesting anyway, thanks for the video

The E is a really good bike if you can find one! I feel like its the closest thing to a unicorn bike you can get.

Yeah, I've dropped questions on other vids of yours now... ty for answering & I only learned today of this "E" version
which I like better already. I'm saving for a dual sport & have 2-3 more months but I've got a list of bikes along w/
all the possible mods & their prices that I'd want on each bike. I even how weighted that list as to how feasible
it'll be to get those mods done after I buy. I want to know what I'm in for after I buy as well, since I've got the
time to know all that upfront. Yep, Suzuki doesn't mention this bike so it's discontinued in the States. Well, if
I happen upon a used one at the right price I might snag it b/c I do like this one. Better than the other DRz's.

were tyre pressures the same on both bikes? The e is overall the better Bike. Is much more designed for the Hwy also.

Yeah the E is better off and on, but the drz400s was way more comfortable and smoother. the E was like a tank lol. E is way more fun too. tire pressures were the same. we keep them around 10 - 12 psi, and for the 2 strokes with hard enduro we keep them around 6psi

The drz400s has a cush drive?
Does the drz400 sm also have a cush drive too

I don't believe so, but nobody seems to care. I don't even think there is any aftermarket cush drive. Oops! There is after market. My mistake.

Great Ride and comparison between the two DRZ's ! 👍 Wonder how these bikes would stack up to a late 1970's PE400 ?
