Having your own money is a good idea though, and not in a his and hers type of way. My husband and I have always combined our money whether I was making more or he was. But having a good chunk of income coming in that you are earnong yourself gives you more security and doesn't leave you as open to abuse. Right now we aren't financially secure at all because my husband was making 7/8 of our money and he had a stroke and now can't work. So now we are in a position where we can't even pay our bills because I was focusing more on the home and taking care of our children.
