    Bought mine when they hit the dealer. 30 k mi .. love it..mpg better than advertised..just oil and filers no other repaires...ESAY to get in and out..6 rt ..235 pounds and 81 years old. Love driving it in the curvy, hilly Berkshires. Glad for cruise control ... find myself doing 80 on interstate. Great snow car. Did I say I love it???

    Consumer Reports rated this the best smaller SUV, and that's what counts for me. Iv'e been following CU's recommendations on cars for the last 30 years, and they've never steered me wrong. If you want something more sporty, get a WRX, they like that too.

      Or just get the XT model. The newer 2019 forester looks ugly as hell and now no turbo engine! So the 2014-2018 forester is the pick imho as the XT model

    Only improvement I made was to reject the low profile tires on aluminum wheels to Steel wheels and larger tires, to facilitate rough road and off road travel. JJagt

    I don't usually like these guys' reviews as they would say pretty much nothing specific about cars, but this one is (and the first part about Forester) is finally really informative and very useful for making a car buying decision. I cannot understand why Subaru's own website doesn't have that information they themself present to journalists.

    actually, they've been employing this system for a while. The manual versions get full-time 4-wheel drive with a limited-slip diff in the middle, but the auto/CVT have a clutch pack. See 10:25 - he says "all-wheel drive clutch pressure is increased by 25%". The clutch pack is not necessarily worse than full-time 4 wheel drive, as it acts in a way as a center differential lock.

  • @JW77
    @JW77 11 років тому

    Depends on how you define those words. I think "symmetrical" is how they say torque steer doesn't happen, not the distribution of torque between axles. And yes, all 4 wheels gets torque all the time, so it's still "full-time".

    I would really love to know the MAX angle the Forester can climb. The Outback's CVT can't put enough power down to climb a very steep hill which seems to defeat the purpose of the vehicle. The Forester seems to be much better designed in that aspect. In another offroad promotional video it climbed a 52% grade which is pretty steep. I also wonder what kind of grade the outgoing Forester could climb with its' 4EAT. I know in a demonstrational vid it climbs a pretty darn steep grade easily.

    So I just took my 2014 forester down a nice 4x 4 trail and tbh it handled the off road better than my older 2009 range rover sport. It handled as good or better than my 2017 Amarok ultimate 550 V6 I recently sold. On gravel roads I don't think many 4x4 will come close to this forester, the smarts behind the sensors to keep it on the road, I was super impressed with. I accidentally took it down a 30 degree decline that was bumpy as hell and I was pretty nervous the car would get stuck. I flicked it to hill descent and just amazed at how it really slowed the pace down over super bumpy rocks that the rain had weathered out and had massive ruts. My only complaints so far with this car is the seats are very flat. Great ergonomically but they don't hug my sides (coming from a mk7 golf R so it's a high standard to match). I'd like to rip into the corners a bit more but end up slipping around a bit too much on my seat. Love love love it hasn't got a auto stop start. Hated this on my Golf R. The powered tailgate, push start and auto door sensors so it just opens up. Really liking it so far! Still getting used to the CVT but it's zippy up to 100 ( got the XT model)

    I like the changes that they mentioned, except for the CVT, but that is a minor thing in my book. Nice interior changes! Have they added any sound insulation in the doors and rear panels? Closing the doors on a '13, it sounds like a tin can, and the car is just loud. And, does the turbo still run on premium petro?

    As usual, another great review. I say call their bluff. Take this thing vs a land cruiser or jeep and see if it can keep up off road. I really like Subarus, but this guy needs to be replaced. They should've had the competitors on hand to show how much better the Forester was. Hmmmm. Looking foward to seeing you put this thing through its paces. Again, no mention of the eyesight system. Would've liked to have gotten your feedback on that as well.

    I just took ownership of a new 2014 Forester. This new Forester beats all previous Foresters hands down. Honestly you cannot compare the new 2014 against any other previous year Forester. The differences are very major. From the Boxer engine to the new CVT transmission makes all previous Foresters obsolete. I am averaging close to 27.5 mpg and the engine is not ever broken in yet. Do not even consider a previous year Forester, go for the 2014.

    I own a 2005 Forester XT and I also tried a 2008 Forester with some extra fancy features for the AWD. I tested it on places where I had NO problems getting around with my 2005 and there is no way I am going for a newer Forester until the turbo lag is fixed and until they can provide with a simple and working AWD system like my forester has or a system that allows all wheels to rotate equaly e.g. real 4WD. I don't like the modern direction Subaru is taking!!

    Good channel.About the new Forrester: I can only imagine how complicated these AWD systems are getting re: X-Mode and how many electronic sensors are needed for a system like that....not sure I would want to own the car 8 years down the road when electronics start giving problems....might make servicing a BMW 7 Series look cheap???
    I'm always in favour of simpler vehicles which is why I will be looking at the manual option as I beleive the X-mode is for automatics only?
    Thanks for good review.

  • @zaurazi
    @zaurazi 11 років тому

    just my 2 cents - it's still not the full-time 4-wheel drive (rather should be called full-time AWD) - the CVT/Auto Subbies also have a clutch pack to drive the rear wheels similar to a Haldex; it's located in the transmission itself (not in the rear axle) and works differently (i.e. much better) normally sending 40% of power to the rear (so it's technically not symmetrical anymore either).

  • @fatboy19831

    The forester is in another league. It rules on a pot holed gravel road. Audi and Subaru seem to have mutual respect for each other. They are a notch above the other German and Japanese competition. Jeep and Range rover are on a level above them both. The Forester may be one of the best all around Awd automobiles on the planet if you take room, price, reliability and efficiency into the equation.
