The citizens of Massachusetts traded away 100,000 square miles of land, hoping to stop the expansion of slavery. It was a noble gesture, but did not prevent the Civil War. I am still confused by what you mean by "The equality of the States." From my reading it was a doctrine that said that it would be unconstitutional for states to be admitted into the union on different terms then the states that came before it.
