As a member of the Family of Duart, I love looking more into the family history and the story of the MacLeans.

    thx for this video !
i'd like to add that Uncle Sean's mother is a Mac Lean . and at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in capital Edinburgh just a few years ago in the timeline of things Scottish, Sean's kilt was of the Mac Lean "hunting " tartan. He wore it well . MacLean is historically derived from the Gillean who was very good with the battle axe which is depicted on the Clan crest.

I like to research this. My grandpa told me about this when I was 8 and I wanted MORE INFO. That’s why I’m here. Reply if you are also a MacLean.

I love Scottish history! I’m from America and I’m moving to Scotland next year for school and (hopefully) permanently, so I want to learn as much as possible!

Excellent Alexandria. Our next video will be a Q&A and we talk about coming to study in Scotland so stay tuned. There's a town called Alexandria beside Loch Lomond as well, just FYI 😀

Great video, I was there in 2017 for the Clan Gathering, met the Chief and several clan Chieftains. It was something you can never forget.

This is on my bucket list. My great-great Auntie said we go back to clan MacLean, so all of this history fascinates me.
    They were Rankins.
We also have Blackwoods and Stirlings in our ancestral line.
I have many reasons I want to go back to visit, and for longer! 😊

My family toured Scotland back in 2000, loved every minute of it! We visited Duart Castle, and were greeted by the Lady of the House! Wonderful Lady, who gave us a brief tour and some history of the castle, it was quite an honor for us to meet her. She told us she had just recently been "banned" from the kitchen, as she was still cooking on the original wood-burning stove with the cast iron cookware. Quite amusing, the way she told it!
I'm both sad and happy to see the Castle surrounded with scaffolding. Sorry the view of the castle is blocked, but happy they're taking care of it.

Ian Fleming 's character James Bond was a licensed govt assassin based on real one as he worked a whitehall in london .
    Q : if Sean's a Mac Lean does that mean J B 007 was a Mac Lean too .::)

Great stories about this castle! I watched this video because it was featured, along with Torosay and Moy, in what I feel is one of the great British films, I Know Where I'm Going. Such a great movie, shot in large part in Mull. It's because of that film that I so much want to visit Mull. It really is one of those kind of films. The filmmakers Michael Powell actually set three of his films in the Scottish islands, the other two being The Edge Of the World, shot on Foula in Shetland and The Spy In Black, set but not shot in Orkney. I actually have a trip itinerary planned out to visit all these places, not just to visit filming sites but also to experience all the great history, which hopefully I'll be able to do someday. I live in the U.S. so it'll take a bit of doing, but, fingers crossed!

My husband is a McLean and we are only just finding out about his history. I think we need to visit Duart castle for sure once things calm down from Covid. It’s fascinating to find out about his heritage 😁

@@scotlanders2612 LOL Mrs. Crilly never lost her Scottish accent. She lived in Canada for 30 years, was my neighbor for 10 years and I almost never understood what she was saying.
Great family with 10 kids!! Kids never had a problem understanding her though.
Keep up the work guys. I know it's a tough job but someone needs to show us the Highlands!
Maybe you both could teach us a few nice words in Gaelic? The only words I know aren't so nice, and I can't spell them. LOL

"the continuity of history..." in Scotland is definitely something very special that makes it (the entirety of Britain, actually) feel as if one is truly "in" history - it makes the ghosts of the past palpable to those of us who are open to them. :)

MacLane here in the US. My Grammy was a MacLane ( changes in spelling due to a loyalist vs patriot separation during the American Revolution), and we are proud of our Scots heritage.

I’m a Macdonald Maclean and every man on my father’s side of the family bares the name, as far back as we can trace! Hoping to visit Duart Castle next summer! We think our lineage stems from the marriage (or kidnap) of Mary Macdonald

Thank you, I've recently been told by my paternal Grandmother that our ancestors were of the MacLean clan. My maternal great-Grandmother is from Sweden. This is fascinating, and this history has been cut off from our family's knowledge.
