Very nicely done, your AIR Montserrat video. Montserrat was home for my family & I for thirteen years [1980-'91 & '94-'96]. One of my best friends [Sir Francis Oglethorpe] was a sound technician at the Studios. Since Frank resided in one of the Studio's suites, we would occasionally enjoy the amenities at the compound between visiting bands. ...A treasure trove of musical spirits must surely live on within the ruins of AIR Montserrat...'Ghost in the Machine'... Thanks for the nostalgia:)
I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT !!! These premises had to be a museum !! ... a place of worship !!! I cry my heart to see this abandoned place !!! How many things could tell his walls ......................................... ॐ(◦◡◦)ॐ (As always you did a job of images & music EXCELLENT thank you)
That must have been a big kick to make this video on such a place. Imagine all the famous musicians standing there recording all those famous eighty hits. Goosebumps. Thx capt, epic video.
I have to say "What a feeling to walk around and explore this abandoned legendary place". It was a feat to locate as there is not much mention about it. We did even know or hear about it till someone told us while we where there visiting the island. Truly thank so much for your awesome support.
Can't be done. Water damage. Volcanic ash is full of ground glass. Bee infestation. It was still an active volcano in 2009, anyway. Besides, Sir George Martin is dead now (2016)
This place is pretty famous indeed :) Unfortunately mother Nature always loves to remind us in its brutal way that she is beyond all these mankind concepts and creations! Thanks for the beautiful tour and keep the videos coming :)
Super video Eric. The amount of creative force that resided there in a short time. Sir George got positively emotional in that documentary, as he wiped an inch of Volcanic dust from a hand rail, that everything has to die for rebirth
That's an awesome video. This place has a lot of music history and sad to see what it has become now (understandingly). Being an amateur musician I am interested in these facts. thanks a lot for sharing 👍
SO glad you enjoyed it and many thanks for commenting. When you walk around this place you can feel that it has music in its sol. We are doing our best to share it with the world before its totally gone. Cheers mate.
Thanks so much for this video! I’d love to do a documentary on the history of this magical place... As sad as I am to see it decaying like this, I almost feel it’s meant to be...the apex of art, and now decaying back to Mother Earth...
.. and another great video of this amazing place on earth... and another very interesting aspect of the location!... thanks for showing... and the amount of work... have a great weekend friends ;))

Thumbs up ere' guys, great capture of music in the making! Great edit and great to see the old photographs of that time - many thanks for sharing :-)
Just found your channel and added it to our "Featured Channels" Excellent work!! We have been filming sailing for years and are finally going to add a drone to our filming arsenal. Will check out all your past episodes now!
Thanks a million mates, we really really appreciated it and welcome onboard. We will differently check out your channel and return the favor. Cheers from the Simpsons Bay Marina, Sint Maarten.
If only the walls could speak eh? Great video and we appreciate the amount of research and time you put into the editing - thumbs up. Wouldn't it be nice if the property could be rebuilt/supported and sponsored by the many great musicians that created so many memorable albums tracks in that studio and a boost for the islands tourism. Thanks for sharing P & B
From what we where told many artist/developers have approached Sir George Martin "Before his passing" to rebuild this place. But where turned down as he had no interest in seeing it reborn, he felt it did its time and was best to leave it alone. Many thanks for watching and commenting guys.
This is an epic location for sure, walking around you have feeling of all the famous talent thats has recored there is really incredible and hard to believe its abandoned? Thanks for watching Mate,
Yeah, because it's an uninhabitable area. Volcanic ash is full of ground glass. Severe water damage. Probably structural, too. And the buildings are actively sinking. Not to mention bee infestation. Not worth it. You can't build on the land.
You can't. Severe water damage. Bee infestation. Volcanic ash aline and the fact that it's sinking makes it not worthwhile. He was alive until 2016 (saw Secrets of the Caribbean and it was on there in 2009) and you'll notice with his 100 million, HE didn't attempt it. With good reason. The area is uninhabitable.
Wow! It was a beautiful place in it's time. To include Boy George(Culture Club); The Who (Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend) and many more. Thank you Capt. Eric
There's not many places like this in the world. Most have closed. Air Montserrat distinguished itself from the rest. Checkout the documentary by Jools Holland of The Police recording Ghost....
A lot of incredible music was made here, by some popular musicians & groups. Such a shame to see such a gorgeous & contemporary mansion in such a state :-( This looks brilliant but sombre at same time. Really sad.
Flew over it on a helicopter a few years ago. Unfortunately it'll never be able to be brought back as its too close to the volcano and its still active. As well as the smell of rotten eggs being a permanent fixture. Eventually it will disappear into the environment. If another eruption occurs and its pyroclastic flow is released out of the north side, then it will be buried under lava like the town was in 97.
Would be cool, but there is too much structural damage, and the foundation is very likely not salvageable. When you ask most anyone about it today, many wouldn't have a clue.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 the problem was the studio was in the exclusion zone and couldn't be gotten to. The exclusion has been relaxed in recent years, so it might be accessible.
From what we where told, Mr Martin stated that everything has its life. We did also hear that there was a group that was trying to reopen the studio.. but I have heard no progress so far.
Hi Capt, fascinating video and brought back quite a few memories as I spent over two years working at the studio. I did notice one photo in there that was definitely one I took and maybe a couple more. I don't particularly mind but I'm curious to know where your sourced them and I'd also like a credit. Please contact me at frank@prismmpi.com to discuss further. Thanks, Frank Oglethorpe. (And as I said, it's no biggie, I'm not stressed about it)
I went down to Air London(Oxford Circus May 86) with Rupert, Rupert's son Jonathan and Betty Watts with the Focusrite Sub-mixer that was checked before it got shipped to Montserrat to be dropped in a space in their new SSL console. Does anyone know if it got saved? I know the lovely Neve desk got sold to A&M in LA.
Some Caribbeans have a rather homophobic attitude and wouldn't like certain artists of today coming to their islands , so it was fun while it lasted but we should let it be.
It was it was. Montserrat is too far away to justify it now, especially with fuel costs. Music is made by people anyway. You can make it on another island closer to Europe and the USA.

Yes, for the sake of Sir George bring it back to life!! Or at least clean it up.

I am traveling to Monsterrat in August, just wondering how you were able to gain access to these areas ?

what is the great music that is being played.
Yeah was scrolling through the comments in the hope of finding out myself.
The album "Silent Letter" by America, was recorded at this studio in 1979.

It'd be nice to put it back in shape, slowly, no rush. A project for wealthy fan. Let me know I can help. Cheers!

someone save that building
Can't be done. Too much damage. You'll notice Martin didn't do so when he was alive. And he had the cash.

So Sad.
Is air studios still the owner of the property?
Good afternoon Dave,
From what I know it belongs to Judy the mrs of the late sir George Martin "AKA the fifth Beatle".
Hi eric, realy sad to see what happened to this place they should have rebuild it in its original state.
From what we where told, Mr Martin stated that everything has its life.
We did also hear that there was a group that was trying to reopen the studio.. but I have heard no progress so far.
Not entirely sure... Either that or we have been told that it may now be privately his wife Judy, seconded by their children.
who did you hear that from Capt? It has now finally been secured , cleaned up a bit with more signs up, so hopefully restoration starting soon. :-)

Nobody in Montserrat would care one bit. Ask Elton John.
