nothing but a glorified snowmobile transmission , good idea in principle but not in a heavy vehicle. not enough surface area on the belt to provide traction on the sheaves and to much friction on them due to the slipping action of the belt , We always carried a spare belt while out sledding because of belt wear and breakage
The cvt in a car is completely different than a snowmobile. Car cvt uses hydraulic pressure to control the movement of the sheaves and also uses a steel belt with rubber bands and is oil bathed and also has a torque converter like a regular automatic transmission. They do last a long time but did suffer from electrical problems. Saw some cvt’s come in with 200,000-300,000kms on them with no problems. By no means im saying these are great transmissions but they can provide better fuel efficiency depending on how they are calibrated. Me personally i would never have a cvt trans in my car.
@@InsaneMopar They did not last and that is why manufacturers are not using them anymore, if a cvt was a good idea they would have stuck around longer. 200,000 to 300,000kms is not very long for a transmission to last. My trucks transmission has been in service for over 450,000kms and still going strong.
CVT stands for Crappy Version Transmission
Hello, good day. I would like to know if I could use CVT Castrol oil in the transmission of the Dodge Caliber.

@@InsaneMopar Yup, 2 sheaves and a belt, just like a glorified snowmobile trans. The rest of it is the control mechanism
