Do you often wake up still tired the next day? Consuming too much sugar before bed time can upset your sleeping routine and make it harder for your body to fall into a deeper sleep. Try to limit sugar after dinner time to ensure you are setting yourself up for the best nights sleep possible.

Once again: Great information from Steph! Thank you!
"Always room for dessert", all I can think of is Aunty Donna's "Always Room Xmas Pud" skit. Look it up and thank me later (or my apologies). :)
Awesome video. That probably explains why my smart watch shows 0mins of deep sleep due to me eating something with high sugar content 30 mins before going to bed.
A great lesson. Thanks Steph.
I can have as much sweet/ sugar as I like before bed and sleep really well, it's when I have Red wine or alcohol late at night that destroys my sleep score (Garmin watch) and type of sleep I have, lesson learnt.
Great info, thanks 👍
So have desserts after breakfast and lunch?
I have made good progress with the dilute strategy recently. Put ONE cookie in a high protein yoghurt makes the brain think it got its cookies but it was just a single one but with protein that stops the hunger for longer.
Steph is a wealth of knowledge, really appreciate these videos.
When does 'Old Mate' get a consultation?? 😂😂🤣🤣
I knew and felt this. Yet I keep doing this. Need to stop.
Agreed. I like what she said about, if I'm craving sugar at night, I have work to do in adding and completing the nutrient profile at supper [and during the day].
More green/colourful vegetable volume/mass on and alongside the plate, every night, whether made immediately prior or the night before [meal prep alternating with fitness/activity, after work].
More bulk-bought, organic seeds, nuts and fresh & dried fruit to flesh out lunch and break-time snack [and prevent stopping for store-bought sugar-carb trash by having a small container of nuts/seeds/dried fruit specifically for drives home, instead--a consistent point of failure, for me.].
If candida calls for carbs via the gut-brain axis, and both rapidly dominates the gut and crowds out *gut flora species responsible for mood/well-being and immune response...* consistently dialling way down the sugars by replacing them with consistently adequate and varied way-healthier foods is super logical.
And in support of consistently adequate, quality sleep-?
"Maybe our most-important resources are 'awareness' [and executive function], since moments of awareness are rare they're precious." [Eben Pagan, more or less]
K- In the interest of healthy collaboration, I'll share that I've packed three one-cup containers of macadmia nuts, pumpkin seeds, and goji berries, and put them into my lunch bag so they'll be set to go for Monday morning.
With kind regards and optimism, from Canada
*tips hat*
What are "lollies"? Steph is bang on if you desire sweets before bed, you have a nutrition issue. The question is what will satisfy without driving you into full on digestion that should finish before your head hits the pillow?
Lollies is another name for sweeties or candy. Aussie slang.
Pop a couple caffeine gels before bed 👍
Can the sugar craving also imply metabolic inflexibility?
Does sleep also deteriorate with complex carbohydrates or only with simple ones?
I don't get an energy boost after eating sugar. I just get tired.
I eat a big sallad and eggs before Zone 2 training and 60 gr / h onboard the bike after
The body is basically under stress after taking in sugar at night as it’s trying to deal with with the sugar. If you take sugar when you are active it gets dealt with easier.
Watch your stress on your smart watch and if you can afford it use a blood sugar monitor. It taught me so much is unreal.
I have my chocolate rice cakes before exercise to get my sugar kick.
She is so right. Small portions of goodies don’t spike your blood sugar as much so much better for you.
She's saying you shouldn't have sugar before bed, but doesn't say what time of day you should stop eating sugar
So shoot up syrup before bed and snort a line or 2 of caffeine. Gotcha. Deep sleep here I come.
I think her points make sense! But dessert…i mean it is dessert, right? ;)
Just eat 2 table spoons of honey before bed and you will sleep like a baby.
i eat more sugar before bed that way I crash and sleep better
The body will not crave fibre as it does not provide any nutritional value. She emphasizes complex carbohydrates too much and not enough fats. Fat keeps you satiated longer. Basically, cycles are too obsessed with carbs.
I disagree. Sugar lowers cortisol and helps you get into deeper sleep and recovery faster.
The main thing sugar free people complain about is the lack of sleep quality.
I'd say she makes this clickbait, when not answering the question how soon before bed is it ok to eat sugar. There is no way an answer of four hours, six hours, whatever, leads to disordered eating. So I can do nothing with the information in this video without an answer to the asked question.
How about giving up sugar and carbohydrates completely and switching to just burning fats - a much healthy option . Sugar is ruining your health and most cyclist seem to be addicted to it.
Complex carbs aren’t = simple sugars
You are not serious about endurance sport. Training without carbs is dumb and you will pay for it. No top level athlete can perform without the proper amount of carbs. Sugar is your best friend
@@alexpeuhs4419not true I just finished the Sunday creek classic 120km , 3000m of climbing all done on no sugar or carbs
