Hey!!! I’m enjoying watching this basement project! How much paint did you use for the ceiling? Also what type of paint worked best in your sprayer? I heard some paint needs to be thinned. Sorry if I missed that somewhere.
Hey!! Thank you for your questions! So I used 5 gallons of black paint for the ceiling, I used the Glidden Premier Semi Gloss Base 3 tinted to black! & I noticed this paint worked really well with my spray gun, generally if your using chalk paint or milk paint you would have to thin it out. I had no issues with semi gloss regular paint! (:
@@AlyssaRodriguez thank you!!! I just pulled down my drop ceiling so going to paint soon. It was hard to tell and hopefully I can explain this well and ask another question. For the part of the ceiling where the insulation is in between the rafters, you just left that open right?
@@shaunastanley4657 yes I did! I just painted it black to kind make it blend in, I’m hoping to get some led strip lights to put on the top edges around the whole basement in front of the insulation so I was hoping that when they are on you won’t be able to see behind them at all! But just painting them black helped disguise them enough lol
I love watching you do your projects! I was looking to finish an unfinished basement for a project myself and watching you do this inspired me to do my basement myself to! I want to do my kitchen as well but would love to have my basement done a little more for storage at least and have it look nice at the same time! Your so inspirational!! Glad I found your channel!
Ahhhh yay! Omg how exciting. This makes me so happy! Good luck on your projects! The basement is definitely a little time consuming but SOOOO worth it! 🙌🏽
@@AlyssaRodriguez I have two babies a one year old and a two year old! I’m a stay at home mommy and I need to keep busy. My babies keep me plenty busy but I want my children to love their home and appreciate it. I always think they would learn better in a clean and cozy environment! I think sometimes we overlook our home and we don’t appreciate what we have when we do not keep it tidy and beautiful. In my time of being a mother (last two and a half years) I learned my kids are so much more comfortable when the home is kept clean and they love it! All our moods are down when the home isn’t cleaned well. Sorry went off track but it makes sense to me 😂
Lol I totally get it!! When my kids toys are organized he tends to play with them longer & is more focused on them then when they are scattered all around the floor! It makes sense! Lol
WOW you did an amazing job. I keep trying to clean my unfinished basement floor but it never looks cleaner. Obviously I need to invest in a shop vac and get that purple floor cleaner you used.
Thank you so much! I definitely recommend the shopvac , made it sooo much easier! Plus using towels for the harder to reach places. I used the Krud Kutter multi surface solution. (:
I did my basement floors last year and it was a fucking work out scrubbing the floor with water and cleaner, then etching it to open the pours, and then painting it and sealing it!
this is amazing! this is exactly what I want to do in my basement and it is so awesome watching you kill it all by yourself! makes me feel like my plans are really achievable. you should be so proud!!!
@@AlyssaRodriguez How is your basement water proofed? Are you referring to the sealant on the outside of the block? If so that will eventually break down and moisture will eventually start to come through the block. Which means your interior masonry paint will start to peel off the block.
Can you do this with spray paint? My walls aren’t flat like yours, they’re curved brick that kinda go every which way if that makes since. I couldn’t do it with a roller. :( so probably either a brush or spray paint. I thought pray paint might be easier. TBH I have no clue what I’m doing. 😂😂😂
I think it will definitely work with a spray gun but I wouldn’t use DryLok paint for it. It is WAY too thick and you would have to water it down to get it through the sprayed. So if you use masonry paint it should work just fine
I just finished spraying our basement ceiling, what a job! What kind of paint did you use for walls? I’m conflicted with using masonry paint or something like dry lock waterproof paint? Although we don’t have any water leaks. How did you decide and how is it holding up? Thanks!
Ahh how exciting!! I went with the masonry paint ONLY because the the walls already had dry lock paint that the previous owners did like 5 years ago but if not I definitely would of done dry lock waterproof paint just to be safe! & it’s holding up great 🙌🏽 the masonry paint definitely brings all the texture of the brick out which I love & it has a good finish. The previous paint just didn’t look white enough to me so that’s why I covered it! Hope that helps
Hello, I am actually currently starting this kind of project in my basement but the problem that I am having is that I rent, but I am a makeup artist and have to bring my business back home and my basement has low wood ceilings like your video but all kinds of wiring and nails and wood planks that are not connected to anything in it. I want to spray paint the ceiling black but I’m trying to determine if I can spray paint over all the wires since I hve no electrical background to know what I can cut or not. But I will remove the nails, I believe the last people here did carpentry to something. It’s a Texas chainsaw nightmare 😂 any recommendations renter friendly.
I just painted over all of the wires and left the nails too, I didn’t wanna create more work for myself. You can just tuck the wires in and use a wire clip to keep them as high as they can go and just paint over it, it’ll blend in once it’s all paintwd
About $500 all together in materials, the biggest expense was the paint because I needed 6 gallons for ceiling, 5 gallons for walls & 3 gallons for floor
Not trying to troll you but ***DO NOT DO THIS PEOPLE!*** I know you think it looks pretty but you just locked the moisture that naturally permeates foundations made of concrete (concrete is porous) into the wall of your foundation so now it will just sit there & degrade the lyme mixture within your concrete and peel the paint of the walls as paint is not strong enough to hold back the hydrostatic pressure of moisture penetration...It can also weaken the foundation itself over time. You should instead think about properly framing out & drywalling if you really want to improve the look down there.
Lol i wouldn’t say it looks “pretty” I would use the word “nice” or “better” . But if I could afford to properly frame out and dry wall then I would have done that instead. My walls were already previously painted when we bought it so this was just a touch up. But I appreciate your concern and I’ll leave this comment up so that others can see it too & know of any risks and they can make the decision for themselves. 🙂
Hello I have been doing a lot of research on multiple ways to finish a basement, most articles that I have read suggest that basements can be painted if the cement walls are treated first. What do you think of this, like Alyssa Rodriguez I cannot afford to frame my basement either. Plus water gets in through back door during heavy rainfall. But I would like to start utilizing our basement. Do you have any other suggestions. Thank you
