Marc Jones I could see how Tiberius or even Augustus might have entrusted an antiquity to Claudius, who was an actual relative and a historian, instead of his stepson Tiberius. I can also see that Claudius would have done likewise to his nephew, and Gaius Babyboots would have confiscated it from Claudius, and Agrippinila would have retained it for Nero as a patrimonial object of the Caesars, legitimizing his claim to the throne unsing his adopted name as Claudius’ heir, Nero Claudius Caesar, instead of his birth name, Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. I am thinking way too hard about this silly TV program.
Okay, first of all: There was NO GREEK EMPIRE! Before Philipp of Macedonia (Alexander's father), Greece consisted of several minor states, each speaking their own variety of classical Greek, states like Attica, Thebes, Messenia, Lakedaimonia, Rhodos, etc. When Philipp conquered almost all of Greece (with the exception of Pelloponesos-Peninsula), ol' Phil's empire was called the Macedonian Empire (cuz he was Macedonian), and it was still the Macedonian Empire under his brat-son Alexander the "Great". When the Alex the Megalomaniac finally bit the dust, the empire was split amongst his generals into Diadoch-Kingdoms, later the descendants of Seleukos, the Seleucids, conquered much of it, so it was called the Seleucid Empire, after the Roman conquest it was part of the Roman Empire and after the Empire-Split, it was called the Eastern Roman Empire or Byzantine Empire (where most people, including the Imperial Family spoke Greek). So, there never was a "Greek Empire", I don't know, why people sometimes try to claim that, that's just history-ignorant bs...
Wow! That's learned and factual. I love (accurate) history, thank you for this information. I do enjoy your description of Alexander! Fair comment, from what I know of him.
That's very interesting (also learnèd and well-informed). Thank you. I sympathise completely, as it irritates me like mad when 'creatives' write books/make films with sloppy historical inaccuracies. All the more so because the public, lacking specialised knowledge, often takes the inaccurate version as the truth.
If you watch the series, the coin seemingly has magical effect because it was mined and then touched by Heracles, a.k.a one of the Greek God. When someone near to that coin, making that someone has eagerness to have it and boost his ambition to top, it could lead to historical change or disaster. That's why in this episode, they mentioned hitler, the "someone" who had the coin for several years, and it turned the world upside down. Well, it's just imaginary myth tho 😅 if this kind of coin is true exist, we might could figure who's having it at this moment 😏

"impervious to attack because it was made of gold" gold is one of the weakest metals they knew that back then as well so why is that the legend?
Maybe referencing its near-imperviousness to tarnishing? Just guessin' here.

Gold itself has always been a symbol of purity, royalty, deity. So, it's not the gold that's indestructible but what it represents.
Simple when you find something anything made of pure gold you understand its worth a fortune so anyone who noticed the coins couldnt destroy it
