    Thank you for the knowledge and explanations, martinbuilt!
    Bought another Yellow Top Optima a few weeks ago and wanted to maintain the battery to its fullest extent.
    So I picked up an Optima Digital 400 and did the first maintenance on the battery just now.
    I will leave the ring leads in place and cover the connector with plastic since it is inside my engine bay. 😊

    I live in Australia and have toured it about 3 times over what seemed like endless corrugated roads blistering summers and are heap of shorter camping trips and I got 8 years from my D34 Yellow top so I cant complain I now have two d34 in linked up with are Red Arc duel battery system they are one of the best brand batteries you can get hands down.

    Very good Martin. I think more people need to know about Optima batteries and chargers. Their chargers are a battery saver. And by only having two models deciding which one to buy is easy.
    I've been using Optima batteries for years now and I was surprised that your last Yellow Top only lasted six and a half years. That may have been due to the charger that you had. I've had an Optima 1200 charger for years now, and I've been very pleased with it. I have the peace-of-mind that any battery I connect it too will be cared for in the best way. That's due to the various things these chargers do in their charge and conditioning sequences. Knowing that no car can fully charge a battery or care for it, a few times a year I connect my Optima charger for no other reason than to charge and condition my batteries. I believe doing so extends their life. One noteworthy feature that you didn't mention is the automatic temperature compensation feature.

      Thank you. Yeah, I think 6 and a 1/2 years is really good, especially out here in Las Vegas. batteries just don't seem the last with the heat. Most batteries die right around 3 years or just after the warranties over. So I was very pleased with the fact that I got 6 and a 1/2 years out of that battery.
      Yeah, one of these days I may step it up to the Optima 1200 charger.
      Thank you for commenting and watching I appreciate it.

      @@martinbuilt I didn't know about batteries being short lived in the southwest climate, being from New England.
      I guess this is why you moved the battery to beneath the rear seat.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 роки тому

      @@discerningmind The main reason was to clean up the engine bay but yes moving under the back seat makes the battery run much cooler. It also moved some weight to the rear of the Jeep to help balance the vehicle.
      I have one more wire tuck left where I'll move the TCM and all wires that run across the right side of the engine.

    Hi Martin... Awesome Video!!!! Yup I have a Garage Queen 79 vette that I don't really drive much. I bought a Red top back in Feb 2023 and just the other day when I took it for a tranny job the tech told me he had to charge the battery cause it wouldn't start up the car... So after talking to a friend he said that even if the battery is new it will discharge if I don't drive the car. I have a battery tender plus, I guess it's good but after seeing your video I've decided that I should invest in the Optima Charger. Any other recommendations you have are greatly appreciated... Again, thanks Martin for time in putting this video together for all of use.

    Hello martin has anyone come out with a better fitting header for the 4.7l grand cherokee unlimited,i think you had struggles with the doug thorughly brand.thought maybe u changed out????snooky pa.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 роки тому +1

      Not that I know of and I doubt anyone will. The main problem I had installing the Doug Thorley headers was because the aftermarket trans pan was hitting the Y-pipe or was it the Y-pipe hitting the trans pan. Either way, it would have been nice if Doug Thorley had redesigned the Y-pipe to work with aftermarket trans pans. I like the header just the same.😊👍

    Hi I already have a similar trickle charger, do you know if there is such thing as a portable trickle charger? Like a jump starter but instead it slowly charges the battery it's connected to ?

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 роки тому

      This would be your best bet for a portable battery charger is an actual solar panel. I like this one because it has the same option as the Optima charger has a quick connection.

      I may just get this for my Jeep Cherokee that sits outside.

      @@martinbuilt thanks for the reply . That thing looks great , problem is my car is parked in a shared garage so I have ruled out solar panels for now.. maybe a jump starter will charge the cars battery if it's connected for a while. ( I think the charge would level out between the car battery and jumpstarter)

    Hi Martin , by mistake I inserted optima 400 in 220 v outlet instead 120 v . Immediately I lost my optima 400 as the company did not thought to install internal protection fuse for such case . Is there any way to fix it. If any one else reading this Q and know the solution , pls advise !

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 роки тому +2

      You must have an outlet that is wired for 220 but will accept the 110v appliance that shouldn't happen.

    I bought the red top and optima says connect negative to chassis but you connected to negative terminal Is that ok compared to optima instructions??

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  Рік тому

      Yeah, optima is suggesting that because of the extreme situation where the battery could explode due to gases venting from the battery, which is very very unlikely with an optima battery.
      It will work either way.

    Since my battery is in the trunk and I have a sound system in the trunk as well its a hassle to remove the subwoofers to get to the battery. Can you charge your optima battery through the fuse block under the hood?

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  Рік тому

      I would say yes because I jump-started a car that way because the battery was in the trunk .
      There was not enough battery power to pop the trunk lid open.

      That’s what remote battery terminals are for: to access your battery for charging and jumping when the battery is somewhere other than right under the hood.
