Eric is so fortunate with his budget. Last year, I added up his buys from one catalog, $12,600.. my compliments to earn those dollars which bring you and us such joy
It's a not luck lol. It's a lot of hard work. Thanks though!
@@Ericstrains he said fortunate. You can work hard to achieve fortune. Also, I know a lot of people who work themselves to death who don’t earn this kind of money
@@Ericstrains you are insane.
@@Ericstrains Hard work and discipline.
@@Ericstrains But as for me I really would love to buy new york central hudsons numbers 5449 and 5452 boxpok and scullin drive wheels, Frisco 2-10-0 1630, the restoration version ATSF 2926 and vision line union pacific big boy 4023 that is lcca exclusive too
It’s always a good day when Eric uploads a video
I pre-ordered the Russian Decapod. Mr. Muffins is doing a special run in Western Maryland. At least he was. Last I heard they didn't get enough orders. Hopefully that has changed. That's the only thing I ordered.
Totally agree with you about the rolling stock, I honestly feel the engines aren't too bad, with how much goes into them, but I just can't justify the prices of the rolling stock. nearly a hundred dollars for a car is just too much . Over a hundred dollars for a car is too much.
If I had to pay over $100 for a passenger car, it'd need an awful lot of detail and features. I'm talking fully-painted interior, for starters. The expense and space is the reason why I stick with HO (and from the used market, at that), even if I'd like to pick up some O-scale stuff at some point.
Nice selection Eric. You are right about the price of the rolling stock, it is getting to expensive for some of them. Can’t wait for your reviews.
You’re absolutely right about the prices of the passenger cars Eric. I don’t understand why they keep going up every year when there is literally no additional features being added to them. Worst yet they don’t even come with people in them. That being said, I ordered the entire 20th century limited and one of the up vision cabooses. I can’t wait for you to review that big boy super set, I’m really curious about the set box that it’ll come in, I’m sure it’s going to look amazing!!
Very nice selections! I went for the BB set, plus the Iron Hippo set & the extra hoppers.
Great to see a snapshot of what you've ordered. I was hoping to see a video like previous years discussing the catalogue with other O-gaugers. Despite being in the UK I find it really interesting the range of O-gauge models available to you and how Lionel packages their sets.
Thanks, I didn't have time to a do a live show about the catalog.
@@Ericstrains No problem, we appreciate all that you do
I ordered a couple of grain door box cars from Legacy Station and a red caboose with cats on the sides! 🐈⬛
Nice selections, can't wait for them all to arrive and see the reviews for them, I'm especially excited for the Big Boy super set, can't wait to see how big the box will be. I also just noticed on your custom caboose you have a cat on corner, that was a nice touch.
One thing I seem to be noticing with these catalogs lately from Lionel, while their prices are slowly going up MTH’s are still kind of staying where they were during their full operation days. Idk I just always loved that about MTH that you knew what the price was as the tooling was already there on reruns so it was just which numbers are offered this time.
Very nice choices Eric.
Looking forward tobthe reviews!
I pre-ordered the big boy set as well. That thing is amazing 👏
I got the Dreyfuss 5447 and the 8 passenger cars
Wow , cant wait to see these when they come in :)
I ordered the big boy 4024 greyhound. Bin wanting a big boy in that paint scheme with the smoke deflectors.

Thanks for the video Eric
Great video Eric! 😀
Thank you Eric for the info
I’ve been waiting for this one lol. I ordered my first steam engine ever and I am so pumped… couldn’t pass on the AC camelback it looks so awesome !
Looks like a great order, but l have a wake spot for BN since one passed by my house everyday.
Awesome video Eric!
Eric I Love You're Videos in the Past and I Can't Wait to See the Lionel Union Pacific Super Set Later This Year That Will be Way Awesome
I'm looking forward to seeing videos on all of these.
Darn, I was hoping you got the good old 1630! Mainly because I live 15 minutes away from the museum!
A good video as always Eric. I primarily am interested in HO scale, but I was given some vintage Lionel trains by a new family friend of ours. Its a start into O gauge, and despite not liking the third rail look of it, I am starting to like the look of O gauge.
Very nice choices and great video as always.. Went with my first BB #4014 and the UP excursion cars, Dreyfuss #5452 and Complete 20th Century passenger set, BN ES44ACs and some custom runs (USSF ES44AC & Caboose, Flying Tiger ES44AC and your NW2 Switcher & Caboose). You are right about the price of the passenger cars, but aftermarket price on the 21" are crazy as well..
I ordered a lot of stuff but one of the things that I thought was so cool were the Disney cars with the black-and-white graphics from Disney’s early day animations. They look so graphic and so cool and I don’t think I’ve ever seen cars that are just black and white so I ordered all of them and then I purchased a pre-owned 90 year anniversary black and white caboose so I’m really excited to see how those all look behind a Lionel Lines steam engine.
Hi Eric yes I ordered the 2322050 iron hippo legacy set and also the 2326480 and the 2326490 add-on hopper cars to go with the set. Thank you your videos are awesome. Dwayne
I was in the fence about the complete big set for the Big Boy. Intimately I ordered my first Bug Boy 4014. I also added some additional UP excursion passenger cars. I’ve been combing the web for the last few years for all the different versions of the excursion cars for the Challenger and Big Boy consists. I finally received my solid ticket booster set and HOLY COW, the box was Huuuuge”
I decided to get and additional add on pack of idler cars and another add on rocket car set. Can’t wait for all the orders to come in by Christmas!!!
I can't wait to see that stunning blue goose 4-8-4 with the old mth passenger cars
For me, it was intentionally just the Former MTH Tooling Western Maryland 2-8-0, but Hopefully: The Visionline Big Boy, I entered the contest so with any luck I'll nab it!
I know nothing about model trains but every engine I thought was cool you picked
You going to the LCCA Convention at Concord this July Eric? I’m going. It would be cool to see you at the convention and talking to people from Lionel.
Yes. Its alive. now I can try and order one to find which one is good.
I went similar to you Eric, I went with the 4019 BB, 5445 Dreyfus, I did go in for the passenger set bc I don't have any NYC passenger cars and Ill have 4 NYC engines I can run them with so the cost did make sense to go a head and get them at a pre-order discounted pricing. I would love to have gone in for a Sante Fe Blue Goose or one of the Russian Decapods, but what I already have on pre-order is my largest pre-order ever already. Im hoping Vol 2 is a dud of a catalog so I won't want anything lol. Looking forward to seeing your orders when they come in.
I can't believe you're doing the custom runs that's cool.
If I had the money for one I wouldve ordered one
I preordered the Lionel Texas Special, BNSF dash8, and Alaska 0-6-0t they look Great
I ordered the AC&W full-vista dome passenger car. And the Southern Railway E8 AA set. Was gonna order the Seaboard #544 Decapod, but I opted out on it. Although, I can see the real one in person whenever I want 😂😂😂
That is a nice assortment of trains you have on order. Interesting that Dreyfuss Hudson 5447 is shown with Scullin Disc drivers and Timken rods which she did not have until a few years after the removal of her shroud. I wonder if the front coupler cover is included? Will be interesting to see the released model. An interesting side note. The fully loaded PT tender weighed more than the Hudson pulling it.
We almost ordered the exact same things - I got your switcher and caboose in just in time… I couldn’t justify the new Vision Big Boy over the original so I just ordered the freight cars
I ordered the Fezziwig Camelback #1225 on page 173 and the Lionel Base3 on page 226.
im excited to see the vision line big boy set
Me too
I didn't order anything from the catalog this year, but I did order an AWRX engine and can't wait for that to be delivered.
Thanks!
I just ordered the Dreyfuss. I had the same thoughts on the passenger cars. Maybe if my wallet allows I'll pick them up when they ship...
It's cool to know that I'm not the only one that thinks New York Central Dreyfuss #5447 is a great looking locomotive. Plus I agree that the prices for rolling stock like the passenger cars are getting a little ridiculous. Good thing I already have some 20th century limited passenger cars from MTH. I wish I didn't have to cut the russian decapod from my order the USA #1918 would've looked great in front of my military passenger cars.
I presume the A&W custom runs did well in the preorders? 👍 Congrats!
Looking forward to the Big Boy super set unboxing......🤯
Well I did it, I bit the nail and pre ordered NYC 5454 from Mr Muffins Trains. Luckily I pre ordered it right before the pre order deadline! So I’ve got the USSF ES44AC from Legacy Station and the NYC 5454 on pre order, so that’s $2,500.00 for two models. I still am not upgrading my basement layout to O-72 curves for the Hudson however, I’m gonna just run it on the O-60 curves, I’ve ran MTH U50Cs on O-36 curves so running a 27” Hudson on O-60 curves will be nothing new for me.
Right on!
i wait til the end to preorder too and i was planning to order the disney 100 set but ended up missing the deadline because i ended up sick for 4 days with a stomach bug so i guess i'll have to figure out another way to get that set
Thank you showing us what you thought were a great pre-order. I thought about the vision line big boy super set but I would have to get a loan from the bank and the bank manager told me that was quite an investment, so I declined. The matching passenger cars for the dreyfuss J3 are outrageous, so much for plastic mold injection. I can give you an insight about mold injection and how it works and how cost efficient that it is. I went with the Blue Goose just like you did. Great looking engine. I went with the AC&W because both units were powered.
Yeah, I need to figure out how to sell a kidney now.
I ordered an I1
A vision caboose
A set of the vision great northern refers
And Brady’s is doing a custom run big boy with a vision caboose that I ordered
I would have ordered passenger cars too but same as you I could justify it if they still did extruded aluminum but they don’t unfortunately.
Sweet man, one of these days, one of these days, I’ll get the Hogwarts express, Percy, and James, that way I can have more British steam on my layout. I personally love British steam locomotives. Well, good luck Eric and keep up the good videos!
I scaled back significantly an only bought the complete 20th Century Limited set, all the 2 pack sets and the 4 pack as well. I would have preferred 18 inch cars as they operate better than the 21 inch cars but since I didn’t have anything 20th Century Limited I went all in. I agree $900.00 for the 4 pack set is getting way out of line but in this case I pulled the trigger. On the NW2, I bought the NJ Hi-Railers Cross Harbor special run. It looks great so I got it. On the Big Boy set, $4,500.00 I was about to pull the trigger until I saw the Lionel version of the Dreyfuss on their story, $1,699.00 vs $4,500.00 made more sense plus I have the 4014 from 2014.
The Camelback, ordered the same one.
Budgets rule but I am sure I see the Big Boy set coming anyway. 😂
I only ordered your NW-2 and Caboose.
Curious, what are the difference between the two sets of numbers for the PRR decapods with the coast to coast tender? Will any of them some with a bit of red on the cab roof and tender?
So this go around for catalog pre-orders adds up to $14,759 and that’s before tax. I wouldn’t deem his budget a budget anymore.
Eric, I have a question about the NYC E8's you ordered. Can they be run back to back in conventional mode? The catalog says they are both powered. Is there a tether running between them so they can talk to each other?
Wow some awesome, awesome stuff there. It's all quality but yeah expensive. Paying for quality, not a bad thing though.
My own opinion of course, but I think it would be cool if Lionel were to enter the N scale model railroad market.
What is your opinion on the Christmas E8 passenger set?
Hi there Eric,
Finally subscribed to the channel. Enjoy it very much particularly watching the trains traverse your layout which is also very nice. My preorder items are somewhat on the fantasy side but it is all in fun. If I wanted to model in full scale I would do it in HO. Also my budget is rather modest, but I can always dream. Here goes:
#23292000 Frankenstein Gateman
#2330040
Area 51 glow in the dark barrels
#2326570
Area 51 Hot Metal car
#2326580
Hot Chocolate Thermos car
#2329160
Santa’s Workshop.
Thanks!
That's nuts, I do not see these as affordable.
They’re not
When I was a boy in the '40s you didn't have to pre-order. Is Lionel that short of money they have to do it?
Im still waiting for Lionel to expand their HO line as Im getting tired looking at the Berkshire locos. Give us the Santa Fe F3s or possibly the Mikado. Its been over 2 years since they released the Spring 2021 Ho book, and with 4 additinal big book volumes since the Spring release book, we see the HO advertisement in the back but nothing new is popping up. I’ll be very “steamed” no pun intended if Lionel withdraws their Ho production line.
Well we Pre Ordered your Switcher Engine & Caboose to go with our ES44! While we were online looking to make our pre order we saw … the new Custom Run ES44 Space Force Engine & Caboose from Legacy Station so … we pulled the trigger for those as well! So for us that’s a massive order from this catalog and we are pretty excited for these new additions. Congratulations again Eric on another custom run . Your livery looks beautiful.
You rule!
I always wonder who has this kind of disposable income to spend on this hobby. But hey I say the same thing about those who spend 50K on a new Harley Street Glide and then the additional 10K to trick it out.
hope you all are doing well. how do you get a Lionel catalog?
lionel.com
Are the toy trains you buy are they tax deductible because of your UA-cam channel? I ask because I know a lot of companies that own their own great big Harley-Davidson. The company owner rides.
Grab a CR ES44AC
Pre orders closed already, he has to wait for them to arrive in stock. That is if LS even gets any in store
👏👍👌🦫🇺🇸🏒🚂
Is that just for 0 scale or for all scale
O-Scale
I meant suffe you can order
I'm gonna watch your videos 10 times each so you don't go broke and get some more revenue lol
Thanks!
Seeing the MTH Rugged Rails 2-8-0 in a Lionel catalog is so wrong and I know Lionel is gonna do a disservice to the tooling by giving it LionChief and their garbage O-27 cars
“Garbage” o-27?
*are you from Jerusalem? O-27 has been around the longest and their cars are not garbage!* go back to your country you uncircumcised creep!
I wonder about this hobby. Not to get political, but I'm kinda scared about what'll happen to production if our country's relationship with China sours.
$4,500 for a Chinese plastic train set, I think I'll pass this time.
You do realize most of our locomotives are *DIECAST* and built very specificly and the factory in china is always under constant watch by Lionel contractors who can reject a entire line of locomotives if the factory workers gets one thing wrong.
Lol How many Big Boys does Eric need?
