Hi Alaska Granny! Thank you so much for your awesome videos! I would add one more category… Greens! We can purchase them in cans or dehydrated, or we can grow micro greens if we have a tray and a lighting source. It definitely provides many nutrients that the other categories do not… Just my humble opinion!

Thanks for mentioning about the Nido packaging. I recently purchased a large container and had thought sometime I would break it down into smaller containers. I will do it a little sooner though. For baking, I use carnation powdered milk. Never had a noticeable difference. I don't drink milk so it's never a real problem. Thanks for another great video. Keeping a jug of water in each bathroom is a very good tip. We are on rural water and they frequently turn off the water to make line repairs. My husband has been caught in the shower with a face full of soap when the water turned off. He no longer laughs at my water jug under each lavatory.

If you save your empty laundry soap containers with the push button dispensers you can use them on the bathroom counter for hand washing during power outages. It’s a system we use when camping, too. The other thing I do when the power is out is fill the bathtub with cold water while the lines are pressured. We use that water for flushing the toilet. One year we were without power for 5 days on the Kenai Peninsula. Now we live in Nevada where water is scarce. We use tanks to store our backup water.

We rely on hundreds of pounds of chickpeas, lentils, beans, barley, millet, amaranth, rices, pastas, peanut butter powder, canned tomatoes, and loads of dehydrated and home canned vegetables. Then we grow vegetables and raise chickens, outdoors and indoors, year-round. With oils, ghee, and lard, along with sugars, vinegars, salt, and spices we can eat a varied diet.

Will have to do the same with the bleach bottles. We have had to use it to flush during the solar vortex. We store drinking water in glass carboys. I recently learned that using pool shock granules is a more stable form of bleach. There is information available on how to use it to sanitize water. I just got some to store for "just in case".

That means no water, because where I live, we have big water tanks, that needs a pump/electricity, so no water. No internet, no landline, (don't own a mobile!), no heating, as the gas heater needs elctricity for the fan, and of course no lights, no fridge, most food in freezer and fridge, thrown out.........once we realized, that it was not an ordinary outage, 1/2 a day passed, until we got a bbc going, all waiting for that first cuppa, ....... ahhhhh, makes you feel like new again, haha

Also important. You have to eat beans & rice together to have a complete protein. Rice alone is missing one key amino acid ( it's been a while) & therefore the beans have the other one to make it a complete protein. ❤😃 THE LIST, 7 basic categories
" Grains, a total of 300 to 400 lbs per person, depending on caloric needs. Such as :
Whole grains, basic white rice, wheat berries, quinoa, pasta, oats, barley, popcorn, grits, etc. White flour, unbleached is best.
Brown rice only lasts about 6 months
    * legumes: some 60 lbs per person
dry beans any kinds, peas, lentils,
    * Powdered milk, 16 lbs per person
Non fat dry, to use in recipes, or add chocolate
Try a variety and see what your family likes.
    * Cooking oil, 10 quarts per person
or fats like lard, butter, margarine, crisco, kept in the freezer or a cool location. Fats make foods more palatable.
" Sugar or honey. Keep sugar in airtight containers.
The recommended amount is some 70 lbs per person.
If you bake, make porridge and prepare your own jam, that is not unreasonable. Sugar and honey do not ever go bad.
Honey goes hard in cold climates. Perfectly alright, as honey never goes bad. Melt in the sunshine, or in a window.
    * Salt, recommended amount 8 lbs per person
Diverse uses, and salt never goes bad.
    * Water, 1 gallon per person, per day. Enough for at least 14 days. You can also buy wet wipes for cleaning hands, if they dry out, add a little clean water to the container, and wait a little for it to absorb. It will be fine to use. Get water purification tablets, or use 2 drops of unscented bleach per liter of clean water, wait 30 minutes before consuming. Bleach does expire, keep an eye on that. Invest in a good waterfilter, or look up how to build your own.

You going to carry all that and hundreds of pounds of food and water, on your back, when you have to escape your home to save your life? You will never survive. Neither will children near you. You have to teach the ways of our forefathers, and how society lived back in the 1700-1800's.
Do you know how to build a fire from nothing? Build a shelter from what is around you? How to purify water with what you have? How to fish, hunt, trap and dress your kill, and cook it over an open flame without cookware? THIS is why Preppers will NOT survive a catastrophic event.....because they have NO common sense or ability to live. Spoiled and useless is our society, today.
No one needs to stockpile toilet paper...can you eat toilet paper? Learn how people cleansed their bottoms after a bowel movement, back in the day....and what those women did for their monthly cycle.
Like I said......spoiled society and Preppers are useless for when it comes to truly surviving an apocalyptic event. Which IS coming.....very soon. Read your Bible, God's Prophesies are all in there.....God tells us to watch the middle east, and He tells us to watch the heavens (sun, moon, stars) for there are the signs of the End Times, which we are in.....as society has turned it's back on God.....wickedness, perverse evil....yep.
God has warned us.....and if you have no Faith that God will provide for you during a catastrophic event......well....then you are screwed.
With the weak Satan owned Biden destroying America, Putin and China will fight over who gets this land, with citizens in the middle.....it is like a hostile company takeover, same thing. America is ripe for destruction. It is coming. Our fake news media doesn't report on true events.....like how Russia is coming for the ownership of America, and China arguing with Putin on who gets what.
Tens of millions will be slaughtered. And if preppers bought their preps with a credit card or debit card.....look out. For now, they know where you live and what you stockpiled. People are so dumb.....you all fell right into Obama.....the Muslim terrorist's trap.....and Biden is the puppet by which Obama is still destroying America. They set it all up, back in 2010....to monitor food, ammo, guns, water systems, solar systems that are bought on line, using debit/credit cards. Such fools.
So.....the advice on getting a bunch more garbage.....is useless. Time to grow up and put the big girl panties on. Cuz it's coming.

The NIDO powdered milk is tasty. You can use your preps to make your own bug out meals, too. To make a two serving bag of fried rice, pour 1/2 cup regular rice & 1/2 cup Augason Farms veggie stew mix & a handful of chopped jerky (optional) into a sealameal bag. Add a small baggie with 1 tsp bullion + salt/pepper/other spices. Drop in an oxygen absorber & seal. When ready to cook, add 2 cups water (2 1/4 if you added jerky), bring to a boil, lower heat, cover & simmer 15 minutes. It's absolutely delicious. Another quick meal that doesn't require refrigeration to keep on hand is one box of Mac & cheese + a can of diced tomatoes (I use the kind with chipotle or green chiles). Use the tomatoes in place of butter & milk. I have ordered cheese powder & butter powder & plan to experiment with some Alfredo type pasta bug out meals, too. I've tried some of the emergency prep foods & they are disgusting & VERY expensive. I'm enjoying experimenting with recipes & making my own tasty versions.

We make sooo much more than whole wheat bread with our wheat supply. My food storage taught me that I can live healthy on about a dollar a day ($30 to $35 a month), using my food storage as the basis. I've learned over the years, and in doing research that eating healthy is not expensive. BUT, I DO BUY BULK and shop sales/case lot sales too: wheat, whole grains, dry beans and lentils, etc; meat sparingly once a day, garden/canning, frozen and fresh vegetables and fruits on sale. Make own whole wheat bread, tortillas, dessert here and there (but for one person a dessert can last several days, or I freeze some and use later). Pepperoni pizza is homemade: 16" is two pieces a meal times 4 meals....sometimes I freeze part for another week. Lentil tacos a fave. Red lentil tomato soup with olive oil is yum, and to go with the soup I made up my own refrigerator crescent roll which has 1/2 whole wheat flour recipe that is sooo easy. I strive to not ever ever waste anything. Soups will usually put me way under a dollar a day, for example: Breakfast: oatmeal/raisins.......Lunch: lentil tacos..........Dinner: chicken vegetable soup with homemade noodles. I do plan snacks, popcorn made with coconut oil and sea salt being a favorite, or a slice of bread with peanut butter and homemade freezer jam (less sugar in my recipe, more fruit). So I might spend more one month than another, depends upon what I need to replace. But it does average out to about $30 /$35 a month. My set daily goal is......one meal with grains.....one meal with beans or lentils.....one meal with vegetables, adding meat once a day such as in chili or tuna sandwiches (easy to make own mayo with an immersion blender). I live near a Winco: their bulk section is a lifesaver$$$.

I've worked in bottled water industry for 10+ years. if storing long term it is a good idea to transfer water different containers - such as glass. the plastic bottles are designed to be as thin as possible, and will only go thinner with more advancements. The individual bottles are pumped with nitrogen before capping to hold the bottles shape. The nitrogen leeches out through the caps over time that will cause problems in end of containers collapsing. Also because the plastic is so thin the bottles absorb what is around them and leech into water. Never Ever buy cases of water you see sitting outside at a gas station!

Even if I eat almost glutenfree now, I stocked up on a lot of couscous, it just requires a drop of oil, a pinch of salt and hot water to be ready to eat, in a grid down situation very useful. Same for pasta, boil it up and let it sit, this is why I have quite a lot. Polenta is a wonderful, quickly ready side dish, too! Beans are great and I have a lot, but they take such a long time to cook...if I had no electricity, apart from cooking them over the open fire or in the chimney, or on a woodstove, I'd always prepare a bit more for at least two or three meals in advance to save energy.

I found the air tight seal didn’t last as well as I wanted, so was trying to think of how they could still be used. I hit on the solution when reminded that salt is corrosive to metal. Now, if I repackage salt into canning jars, I use my Tattler lids knowing the plastic will not corrode and since the salt isn’t touching the plastic, will not leach either.

I am unable to eat plants - ANY plants, so I eat meat. As for storage, I pressure can and smoke meats but the most robust thing I do is, I dehydrate organ meat and put it into gell caps (make pills). This allows me to eat nutrient-rich food daily, even if I don't eat a plate full of meat or eggs. I store the pills in zip-lok bags inside Mason jars and keep a seperate 30-day supply of each organ to feast on, while the bulk stays locked away. Remove the drain plug to drag peices of lime out with the wire that is strecked out double with a hook bent on the end.letting water flow in as you work helps to remove the lime. When you are done you can put the drain fauct back in the tank and cap off the other pipes . Most water heaters are 30 or 40 gallons, some times 50 gallons. And are usually free.

Hi AG. Thank you for your excellent videos. I just want to comment on ‘red beans’. The FDA addresses undercooked or raw ‘red or white kidney beans’ as the culprits for illness. In case anyone is wondering, white kidney beans are known as cannellini beans. The onset of the illness is quick and involves heavy vomiting, but can also include diarrhea. It usually lasts for 3-4 hours, but can be severe enough to require hospital admission for IV fluids. The illness can be triggered by as few as 1-5 undercooked or raw kidney beans. Also, undercooked kidney beans are more dangerous than are raw kidney beans.
These are the FDA guidelines for kidney bean preparation:
Soak in water for at least 5 hours.
    Pour away the water.
Boil briskly in fresh water, with occasional stirring, for at least 10 minutes.
Undercooked beans may be more toxic than raw beans.

Here in the UK for drinking water we buy 2 litre bottles of spring water, just because it tastes better than tap water. With the empty bottles I fill them with tap water and store in the shed. I don't know how long it would last to be safe to drink but it would be mainly used for washing etc. As for milk you can buy long life milk and it has about 7 months shelf life, we use this on a daily basis and restock. So if you don't like the powdered milk this would give you a good start.

One question though, why is it not good to store bottles of water on a concrete floor? That's a new one on me.

Concrete is slightly acidic or something like that I can't remember. Either way something in concrete will eat away at plastic

Powdered greens such as Amazing Grass can be stored as well because greens are very important. Multivitamins and dried fruits for we need fruits and vegetables.
