Honestly in 2019 this is probably the best deal used vehicle that you can find out there. They go for at or under 20k now and they still look so nice compared to everything else.

It DOES have a turbo, so thats another thing to consider. Sooner or later that turbo is going to go before anything else does - and if its pre-owned, you're most likely going to be the owner who has to pay for that replacement.

@@thiagogregory1 Its not a coupe because it has 4 doors so its a sedan. The Sport and base model have similar grills but the sport has bigger vents on the bottom front and it has a chrome lip on the bottom. The Luxury model has Mercedes hood ornament and the grill is all chrome with a traditional Mercedes design.

I always find it funny that people think the C Class only value is its price. Like no - it's actually a _gorgeous_ car. When shopping for my car, I had the option of an E-Class (often for cheaper!), a GLE, GLA, CLS, GLK, and CLA but none of them struck me as much as the C-Class. Sure, price might be a factor for some people but I'd wager that it isn't for the majority of C Class owners.

I really like your honesty Nick. Majority of BMW owners, would always be in serious denial about a Benz being better than a BMW in any way and so it's quiet refreshing to see that you have the guts to admit where BMW falls short in comparison to the Benz. This honesty is rarely seen among the Bmw crowd (usually their opinions begin like this: "while the Benz is a decent car, it's a no match for....") - you get the idea, and so hats off to you man.

Great review Nick! Cool new intro and the filming is really top notch! It's funny to think about how Mercedes owner's view their status. Here in the U.S. up until the CLA was introduced a year or two ago, the C class was the "poor man's" Mercedes. I'm sure E-Class or S-Class owners would view the C owners the same way and look down on them for buying one of the cheaper Mercedes. All these people are hilarious to me. It's a race none of them can win lol. Great to hear that you like the C300 though! I loved just sitting in one, I'm really eager to drive one too.

My colleague bought this car and absolutely loves it; by his accounts it is a fantastic car and a huge step forward over the last generation. Regarding 4:10, however, it is notable that he too also chose this car over its competitors for the primary reason of the prestige associated with the Mercedes brand. When I suggested he consider cars like the Cadillac CTS, Volvo S60, Lexus IS and even the larger Hyundai Genesis sedan, he gave me a quizzical look as if I had insulted his station in life. People.

You're the only reviewer that I sit through a 40 minute review and felt like I wanted more! Really informative review and I really love the details you provide on the cars. One suggestion that I might give towards the editing is maybe you could put the texts on top on your video instead of beside whilst you "squeeze" the video out of proportion. Just something that I thought would make your videos even better. Waiting for your next video!

Great review NIck! Bravo! One obstacle about your review that I noticed: because you borrowed these cars from their owners, and no one would love to hear bad things about their new ride, it prevent you from giving negative feedbacks more or less. I'm not saying your are biased, I just think it's a tough situation to handle. Love your vids.

23:27 Mercedes Benz could have fixed that "issue" by integrating a scroll wheel, which you can move up and down to increase or decrease the volume and by pressing it you could mute the sound.
The now remaining free + and - button could then be used for changing the track or radio station.

Thanks for the work and the effort to make this video stand out. I can notice you are always improving the equipment and your techniques which is great. Let me suggest small changes and then you may consider them - or not. (Also other people having a lot of opinions so it's your video and it has to be always fun.)
+ I like the panning, all the equipments you buy, the automatically turning tripod head from previous videos. Expensive Canon Cinema camera.. Very enthusiastic. (But sometimes less is more.)
+ I like the gorillas, your dog, little unicorn, helicopter.. your style. Cool!
+ I like your preparation on the specs and competitors however this time it's a little bit too much.
+ I like you spend time with the interior and the recognition of the brand. Nice point of view!
    - I don't like you did not cut it shorter and tighter. Less than half an hour maybe/ or it's just me.
    - The new animated chapter intros..mmmaybe not. One less cheesy would do in the beginning but careful with the music. Some old 80's synth would do the job. ;)
    - I would be more interested if you could strap some of your GoPros inside the engine bay with a torch to have some engine shake/noise. Under the chassis to see how smoothly the suspension is moving in corners and bumps. All these things can add a lot more. (And trash your camera as well so maybe it's too much to ask. I am sure there is strong velcros and safety wires for this on ebay.)
-When you are talking about the cars you are comparing them as a buyer with a budget and there is no mention of geeky technical details like the rear wheel drive or the 4 wheel drive systems. More info about the brakes and the steering. Hard to get those infos because it's not always on the websites but I am trying to say it's not only the engine size and the power what is making a difference between makes or models. (CLA-FWD)
    - Get polariser filters as said before from another amateur photographer!
    - Use longer lenses like 85mm instead of wide angle to have less distortion of the shape/perspective. (It means you need bigger space, larger diameter of circle around the car.)
    - Having the dolly and a zoom lens with electric zoom you could try the dolly zoom effect inside and maybe outside of the car. (see how it works but it's a very powerful technique!)
    - Take the walk around shots somewhere on a hilltop or a valley to have nice background. It's nicer to have good background even if the car fills the frame because people walking behind.. or white buildings, orange M4's are distracting. ;)
+ Huge plus and biggest thumbs up for that wavy-bumpy backroad with the nice winter snow everywhere you was taking the car to. And I can see why is dangerous so drive safely.
Again, I am a big fan of your videos so just keep doing them!

Awesome review! Loved the panning shots! One thing, you want your reviews to look more professional, we can see to many cameras, you should film all the front facing stuff (looking out the car) first then remove those cameras, so when it goes to a shot of you talking about the car we won't see any... Not sure if that made sense..
Basically you film everything in one go, with all the cameras, you need to film separately, will take longer, but will look way more professional. Anyway, I subbed, looking forward to see some more videos :)

Love the video. I love seeing more "amateur" car reviews (and I don't mean that in an insulting way) like yours because they skip all the silly hyperbole and review a car from a more pedestrian perspective. By the way, I've been eagerly awaiting the review of the new camcorder. Is it coming anytime soon? Also, it seems like you're using it in limited quantities in your latest review. Any particular reason for that?

BMW loyal fans are a sensitive bunch. In their minds, no matter what BMW must be the best. Get over it, the 3 series has gone soft and disconnected from the road because they want to capture markets from Mercedes, Lexus. 3 series is a mainstream car now.

Hey Nick. Love the C300 review. As usual very impressed with quality of your reviews not only from a content perspective but a production aspect also. MB looks like a decent amount of car for the money. Would love to see you review the V6 variant which would probably be a screamer. Also loved your review a ways back on the Audi S4. I just bought myself a 2014 S4 and love it but do agree with some of your short-comings like steering feel and sensitive brakes but those are small considering the cars qualities overall. I just wish I could drive it in the snow like you can but since I'm in Atlanta that's not going to happen anytime soon :)
Keep up the good work. Love watching. I'm jealous.
Ps...Killer video equipment btw...I thought I went nuts blowing $1200 on a Nikon D7000 and a good lens but that's nothing compared to what you have.

Nick Murray Hey, in the review you stated that you didn't know how to change the station or the track of the media you're playing. You can do so on the screen in the middle of the spedo and the tach using the the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. You select radio or whatever media is currently playing and go from there... It's a little bit cumbersome at times as you may have to constantly change screens but I guess it's better than nothing.

If only Chris Harris could move away from the hellish british wheather to where Nick is and then hire Nick to do the relaxing road tests!
I mean, Nick and Harris is one short of doing a new generation epic Top Gear trio... :)

Nick Murray As much as hot chicks have their time and place, we don't want them dumbing down the show. Keep up the good work, Nick! Best review I have seen on the internet, and I know the manufacturers don't "own" you, so you can say whatever you want.

Nice review. But, from my research of the C-Class, many people say it has a slow shifting transmission. I am quite confused on your impressions of the transmission. My parents have the 2014 GL and I also noticed how that is a very slow shifting transmission. I am also confused why their isn't a dual clutch transmission when they put one on the CLA.

    • @NickMurray
      @NickMurray  9 років тому +1

I had also read that people found the shifting to be slow but I did not find that in the car I drove, maybe they have updated the software or fixed that somehow now?

Mercedes is known to not have the best transmissions. They have gotten better, but I yet don't see them as good as a ZF-8 Speed you'd find in most modern bimmers.

Very nice video nick! I just have one thing to say about the CLA vs C-class thing. I don't think the cla doesn't sell it as much as the c-class because people think it's a lesser car but just because the cla is a 'niche'. MB, Audi & BMW try to fill up every 'niche' with models like the 2series, 6series, X6, X4, A5 sportback, A7, CLA, GLA, CLS. So by nature these models don't sell as much. It's not just the fact that they are cheaper or in case of the A7, 6er or CLS more expensive it is because they are niche models. So the comments from your friends on the CLA has nothing to do (atleast I don't think!) because of the brand consciousness thing but because that niche doesn't appear to them.

Nick Murray Hahaha, yeah great isn't it, neither of our parents could think of anything original. Apparently the facelifted version will get the display in the dashboard (which is much better).

Nick thank you very much for this review, I live in the NYC area and I'm looking to get one of these pretty fairly little optioned (about 5 grand worth of options). I'm torn between keeping the standard 17s with 225/50 or going 18 with 225/40 and it seems that these standard rims work well! This video confirmed that a smarter choice would be the 17s. (I have a 2012 GTI and i've destroyed 4 low profile ties, enough is enough).

This generation has really aged very well. The body form is awesome. I bought it at Carmax for 27k and people are always like, wow, this cost you like 100k? It's definitely one of the best cars I have owned. An odd bargain. I do agree with the control weirdness. You can change the track by a small button on the swiper if you're not in Media btw.

Video like this for the C450 when it is released please!
Also, if you haven't been told already you can change the track by hitting the * on the touchpad which takes you to a shortcut menu. Obviously it takes a little longer than having a steering wheel button...
    Really nice review though. Subscribed!

ms joanbaez MANY ACCOLADES FOR NICK MURRAY ! Nick, despite the (subtle) New Zealand accent! I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed your high quality video presentation on the 2015 MB C-class 250 ( 300). You have confirmed my own non- car professional beliefs, and after having deeply internet- researched for many months as to whether I wished to purchase in Perth, Western Australia, the excitingly superb 2015 MB C 250 (300) W205 sedan.Over several decades I have owned/driven MB"s E280, E250 E300 and an S320 . These were preceded by a Ford Consul and a Ford Falcon, my current vehicle being an IS
250 Lexus. These MB,s were, I am certain many will agree, too austere and, if I may be so bold, too Teutonic!
Some weeks ago, utilizing as much knowledge as I was able to acquire, I very carefully reached the decision that the 2015 C 250 was the car I desired, being propelled by the shear immensity of the C 250 features , and by being irreversibly impressed to a very major degree by much positivity, and especially by the radical revolution created by the C class, and particularly by the outstanding quality of the superb materials utilized in the construction, by the absolutely fabulous interior updating for the twenty first century, and also of the exterior design, and of the stupendously exciting technology incorporated in the vehicle. The myriad safety features were absorbingly impressive me, particularly since I am a medico, having seen too great an abundance of the consequences of motor vehicle catastrophic and tragic accidents.
Nick, I quite am quite certain that I have made the totally appropriate decision in purchasing the 2015 MB C 250 W205 sedan, and you have to a very major degree reinforced my important decision. I do believe that "to C is to SEE"!I thank you very sincerely.

At first I was not a fan of the looks, especially when I saw it on videos. And That was the same when the new BMW 3 series came out. However the difference is, I recently saw the new c class on the road, it was early dawn, sun had not come up yet, and the light from the street lights were reflecting off the car and it just looked stunning. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same of a 3 series BMW, I'v warmed up to its looks, but still not that impressed. However, I do love the look of the M3/M4, those minor changes make all the difference. Anyways, great review Nick, I enjoyed the video & looking forward to more M4 videos too!

Well done. And I agree with your conclusion. MB have really upped their game (if I may borrow a cliche). A big factor I would think is which car makes you smile when you see it in your garage/driveway each morning? Which will give you that tingle? I think, relative to its chief competition, this new C class is special.

Love the personal approach to the vehicles, Nick. It is a lovely car with an outrageously attractive interior..too bad even the C180 costs $140k USD in Singapore.
