    As an Irishman, I am proud of Daniel O'Connell's influence on this great African-American. I am proud that in October 1845, he lectured in my home town and was well received there, and that it is connected to his story.

    Anna Murray Douglass, Frederick Douglass' first wife, helped the abolitionist leader escape slavery and supported his anti-slavery work for years, according to historian Leigh Fought, author of Women in the World of Frederick Douglass.Jul 6, 2020 They had 5 children and we're married 44 years.

    Great history. The struggles of African Americans and Irish have a lot in common. It is too bad most Irish Americans don't realize this.

      No it was not.

    • @CorpusChristi-j8x
      @CorpusChristi-j8x Рік тому

      @@seanconroy7222 there would have been different ethnicities in Ireland. This country was part of the British empire and many Irish men and women served the Empire in Asia, Africa, North America , Oceania and the Caribbeans. Many would have assimilated and married into Irish families so there wasn't a major distinction until the Celtic Tiger years when people voluntarily moved to Ireland for better living and working conditions.

    I don't think having Obama's hand is a tribute to Douglas at all ! Quite the opposite .
