I like how the continued repetition of the chorus acts as a kind of mantra. You slowly start to believe it yourself that you’re resilient and un-knockdownable.
In 90’s when I was a teenager, I would open WorldCup 98 on the PC and listen to this song for hours accompanied by the dancing rooster in the main menu of the game.
I can't believe how we spent our youth back then 😅

I used to work at a Five Guys. They'd play this song constantly but I never knew the title or was able to understand the lyrics. So for the past year the best I could do was hum the background music and hope somebody would recognize it. I was just watching Stephen Colbert and he used the song and when I heard it I screamed "that's it! That's the song!" Then ran upstairs to look it up on UA-cam. A years journey finally has come to end

Look even closer and you'll find that Chumbawamba is actually a pretty awesome band. Their 80s stuff was punk rock, 90s was mostly dance/whatever you call this, 2000s they were folk. I love all their sounds, and they have a solid message to deliver (though you wouldn't know that by this song)
It's kind of impressive how this song manages to keep its two differing tones together in harmony. It's not Bohemian Rhapsody, but it can definitely can bend the atmosphere just enough without breaking into a different song.

The FCC noticed eventually and there was a controversy but by the time they realized it was pissing the night away not kissing, it had already been played all over the country for nearly a month.

I was working in London for a week at the height of this song's popularity. I had been working a bit late in an office by St. Pauls and walked around the narrow street and found this tucked away pub in the old part by St. Pauls neighborhood. I'm guessing there were a lot of office workers in the area and by 7:30 the pub filled up, smoky, crowded and loud by 8 pm. This song came on, they turned the volume up to 11 and the whole pub was jumping! It was intense. And wonderful. One of the great memories my career has provided me with. You had to be there.
I was in a pub in Central London and The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" was playing. The whole scene was perfect for just that little bit.

I cant believe I just came across this song, 20 or so years ago my 2 sons listened to this group and smashmouth...ECT.. they would play this over and over, it would drive me nuts. then one day they were jamming it was loud, I went to do dishes and didn't realize it but my older son came down and busted me out I was singing and dancing I was totally into the music, didn't have a care in the world. I didn't realize I was singing and dancing around the kitchen, till my audience clapped. it was one of the most funniest and cherished moments we had together. there both grown have kids and wifes. but they still call mom and tell me the new music that's out and I need to listen to it, I would love it they say...what a hoot life was and the fun we had. time flies by way to fast...now I dance with 4 grandkids, I play the oldies and they love it...life is good...

@@Morningstar-dg4yy I have epilepsy and often vomit during seizures. One night I had a seizure while asleep on my back. Vomit filled my lungs and esophagus and they had to be pumped. I got pneumonia since I had a lot of fluid in my lungs.
