Dude thank you so much! I was worried this was going to be a big pain in the butt. Had the tension pulley fly off while I was driving so replacing it was a very scary concept as I've never been a big car guy. All my work has been on motorcycles lol.
That tensioner system is so lame. I was able to take my idler and tensioner pulleys off from the top in 5 minutes cause my belt broke but now I see that won't be the case going back on : (. Thanks for all the helpful info you put in text on your video
Nice vid, straightforward explanation. One issue I had though was that the nut holding on the tensioner is completely locked up when I attempted it, and even after a torch and cold chisel, it's now impossible to remove. I'm to the point of just cutting the thing off, but can't find a replacement tensioner bolt anywhere. Any suggestions where to find one or at least what it's called, or am I stuck with having to machine a new one?
what to do if the belt tensioner nut keeps spinning on the bolt. a little bit thread left and its free but feels like it will give but been ratcheting for a bit don't won't to damage the threads . I'm replacing a crankshaft sensor on my wife's 03 sedona .so both seperantine belts need to be removed and the crankshaft pulley. the sensor sits behind the crankshaft pulley. this video is very helpfull.
Nice video, like the detailed explanation. I got the same car, ‘04 Kia Sedona. At first start when the engine still cold you can hear a loud squeaking sound and as the engine warmed up the sound start subsiding. Do you think this comes from the belt or pulley or both? Thank you.
It's hard to tell, you can try replacing the belt first and see if it fixes the problem. While the belt is off you might as well inspect for worn out pullies
I put a new serpentine belt on and it squeaked then it snapped, do you think its a bad tensioner or did tighten the pully too much when i put my new drive belt on? I cant move the sedona unless i tow it to the mechanic.
@@themechanic6117 I was just changing alternator and to do so I had to loosen the belt tensioner right. So what I did was I loosened the bolt too much that it came off and when I wanted to put it back on it was hard. Spent hours trying to get it in. And when I thought I got some thread in it started getting hard to turn .
+awitha leona not sure of the part number. The pulley is sold at your local parts store . The adjustment bolt you might have to go to a junk yard or find a similar bolt at home depot
The Mech a nic do you know where i can find a adjusting bolt that holds that part on at ua-cam.com/video/2H53bPcMTJw/v-deo.html (3:15-3:19) that bolt, mine broke and i am looking for a solution to take out the broken one that adjust the tension to the belt, what type of bolt m8 or m10 and length
@@themechanic6117 darn.. i know they make some in the united states, but i am from canada and they don't make them here, i'll drill out the remaining bolt that is inside the adjuster housing and try find exact fit bolt
@@themechanic6117 well i was almost done, i thought i sprayed the bolt so it would be easy but it was the other side power steering adjusting bolt, but things happen.. thank for the video i ordered more parts i will just change since i'm in that area..

Wow, they don't give you much room to work with ://. Funny thing is, I like the aftermarket Part better. You did good !!!
+Jordan Bronson they sure dont, it's not that bad though. Thanks for watching n commenting.

The threads are stripped . Maybe a heli coil
recently had to change that pulley that sets under the alternator. it was a pain, tough to get tools in there to do the job
I agree, glad you got it done 💪
Did you guys see a washer or gasket that came off? Rubber?
I cant remember

Do you know if the 2011 is set up the same way? I'll be working on my daughter's car soon. Thanks
If it has the same engine it should be the same.

The original part, the bolt fits 'into' the bracket. The after market parts do not. Is this ok? Hope this makes sense
Im not sure what you mean but everything should fit if its the correct part

Did you check all the pullies to make sure they spin freely before you out the new one on?
@@themechanic6117 the crankshaft pulley and idle pulley do not move when van is turned off
Crank shouldnt move freely. You have to turn the engine over for it to move but the idler should spin...thats probably what caused your belt to break.
@@themechanic6117
Got it fixed. Thank you. Hope this also helps other people who come across this issue.
@@DeanCorso321 what was the problem? The idler pulley locked up?
Excellent vid, where du get those snazzy gloves...
Thanks, they're just latex gloves that you can get from your auto parts store
If this part falls off, is it safe to drive to the mechanic or should I get it towed?
You won't have any accessories suck as the alternator, power steering so you won't make it far. Probably best to tow it
I was wondering for that tensioner pulley . I loosened up the whole bolt and now it’s hard to put it back on and I think messed up the threads.
The bolt that's reverse threads?

@@themechanic6117 the bolt under the pulley that your talking about at 2:00
Ok yeah that bolt comes off normally. You may have to replace the bolt and chase the threads on the other end if the threads are damaged
hi my van is making a noise when you press the gas ..is this what is happening to mine
+Natasha Pulley this might be your problem. Have your pulleys and belt inspected for any wear . Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is the noise whiny when pressing gas pedal?
Which way do u spin the six point to get the idler pulley off
I believe its counter clockwise

Yes
