Many years ago Gary, I called you because my keitt mango tree had black covering the leaves. You came to my home on motorcycle to see my tree. Then I followed you to your tree farm/ home and you gave me something harmless to spray on the tree. You wouldn't let me pay for it. So, I bought some honey. This was such a memorable day for me that I have never forgotten. You gave me a tour of your trees and told me a story about them and how they were named. You showed me how you graft the trees. It was an amazing day. Thank you for this wonderful day I still remember.
Without this guy and his family, I’m afraid the mango game in Florida and probably the entire U.S. would be much less exciting. He’s honestly one of my heroes. ✌️
You prolly dont care at all but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
Not Just Florida and the US. But the whole world. Tommy Atkins, Kent, and Keitt which were ones of the first to dominate the Mango market in the whole world, have originated in Miami. South Florida played the biggest role in the world in developing and promoting the Mango fruit. The Zill family was behind most of that effort I think.
I don't know how much the broader market will change. I haven't seen them in any grocery stores. These mangos were selected for taste mostly I believe...and I'm glad. But, can they hold up to shipping as well as Tommy Atkins, etc.
long long awaiting for a video with Gary Zill. this is a very interesting and inspiring video,, every mango ive bought fromTruly Tropical, all seeds was replanted, hope i come up with a new variety for my kids, if not ill top work to know variety,,,, Get sions from Truly Tropical ,, cant wait for mango season at Truly tropical again.. love ya chris
Truly Tropical - I almost feel like a mango cult member! (The only cult I've ever thought worthwhile!) Me, in Ft. Myers, FL... keep up the good work. Shout out to the Zills!!!
Really a nice video and very interesting. Marly has done what I would love to do. Always wondered what all my seedlings would end up being like if I could let them grow. I'm sticking with the Mama tree and trying to graft all my seedlings. I've had SO MANY compliments, it's been overwhelming. Wish I could do it all over again, ( I wouldn't be a printer). Keep up the good work! Perry's CHAMPA MANGO
This is great to be able to listen to Gary explain his project. Please do more. What is the disease resistance of Little Gem, Pina Colada & Ugly Betty?
Great video Chris. Thank you for sharing. Do you happen to have a video on the best potting mix for growing mango in containers? We want to keep our Pickering in a pot on the patio.
@@TrulyTropical I wonder if Sugar Loaf has the uneven ripening problem in South Florida. We have tons of calcium in our soil. In some places, there's no soil, just calcium carbonate (limestone, coral rock).
Amazing! What would you say is the best spacing to plant mango trees (around 10) in the ground in a somewhat limited space? Also, from your past experience would you say that Juliette and Super Julie have similar taste?
both have Julie flavors, but they don't taste the same. Juliette has a smoother flavor than Julie. SuperJulie has a more fruity flavor (as we remember). Super Julie seems more vigorous than Juliette.
You need aroma in mango you must come to India and taste Banganapalli mango which is mother of Indian mangoes and more ever you have to come to my 80years mango farm one mango can fill aroma your house if you put in on your dining table after rippening
Which mango cultivars are lowest in allergens? I have Anaphylaxis reactions to many things. I can eat Keitt mango if very ripe with minimal problems, Yet even standing near Tommy Atkins for 30 seconds causes me to break out in hives that last over 24 hours & requires Prednisone treatment. I would like to grow a mango that I don't react to with allergic rashes. Do you know the best cultivars for me to research?
Perhaps the southeast Asian varieties would be better for you. Some of our customers seem to react to only the Indian or the SE Asian varieties, but not both..

great information, thanks for sharing!
All I can say is "Wow". Here I am, babysitting my one and only NDM #4 :-)
The level of commitment this man has to mangos is impressive
This is great to be able to listen to Gary explain his project. Please do more. What is the disease resistance of Little Gem, Pina Colada & Ugly Betty?
They should be fairly resistant ...based on their parentage. But, since they are new varieties, we don't have much field experience yet.
Thats the Mango Man
Very danceable music.
Great video Chris. Thank you for sharing.
Do you happen to have a video on the best potting mix for growing mango in containers?
We want to keep our Pickering in a pot on the patio.
We haven't done on a video on that yet because we don't grow trees in pots long term
good ques
We just put out a video on potting soil...
Legend says
Is sugar loaf a good productive tree?
Any info on that tree is appreciated.
spreading growth habit mid size tree with good production
what kind of mango would you recommend to grow in small back yard in the really, really hot Arizona weather ???
I hope someone from Arizona sees your comment and recommends something... we have no experience with your conditions...
In San Diego, mangos will typically fruit from seed within a few years, 5 years.
😱shocked
Good morning Chris, i hope all is well how do you rate the sugar loaf thanks ?
We've only tried Sugar Loaf a couple of times, but it was tasty!
