Great video and commentary Mike! When you said "not much top end power" I was confused for a bit because my 1200 Griso 8valve has *tons* of top end (out to 8500 rpm) , then I realised you have the 1100, 4 valve motor :) Also, because I'm Australian, your 'hedge rows' roads are scary to me because I'm used to tons of visibility, what a different world you have in the UK.
Thanks for the comments Terry, yes the 1100 has about 80bhp and yours has 110, I was going to swap it but I use this bike when I go riding with mates and their classic bikes so it fits the task well. I lived in Aus myself for 25 years (Adelaide mostly) so can Identify with what you are saying, I actually did this video to show my mate in Aus the bike.
25 years in Au, .. G'day mate! I'm in the Northern Rivers in NSW, which has the highest density of roads in AU, and is absolute heaven for bikes over mountains and rivers with spectacular scenery up into Queensland etc. I've had 17 road bikes inc a Honda 900 RR, but the Griso is the most fun to ride bike I've ever had (once I got the suspension sorted by a expert), and also the most confidence inspiring. I love long twisty uphill mountain climbs with my knee up against the cylinder heads as the Griso leans into the corners and tears chunks out of the road as it accelerates ;-) I think your 4 valve is a excellent motor, no cam chains or followers to replace and should last a lifetime! Audi ... way to go! I have a 1994 model 80 quattro !
I recently sold mine, fuel tank ridicously small and only a five speed, which in the end was positively annoying. Great bike, fix those two issues and it would be brilliant.
@@LemonDrizzleGang 5 speed, never manufactured with a six speed box as far as I am aware, well at least in Australia we did not see a model with six speed gear box, although the Stelvio had six speeds I believe.
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Malakai Alvin Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Just discovered your channel. Thoroughly enjoyed your video and commentary on the Griso, and the sound is absolutely intoxicating. I've wanted to get one for years (even though I've never ridden one), but I've always shied away due to the lack of competent dealer service anywhere near my home. Curious how many miles you got out of the clutch (assuming the repair wasn't the hydraulic actuation)? It's my understanding that Moto Guzzi has dropped the Griso from their lineup for 2018, but that may just be here in the U.S. only. Thanks for the ride on your beautiful Griso. Subscribed.
Dean Love thanks for your comments, the issue I had with my clutch was not common in fact it was a faulty actuator arm. I do all the maintenance myself valve adjustment is child’s play (compared to my Ducati) the only thing I would shy away from is a change of the clutch plate but even then I have a friend with the appropriate equipment to perform the task. Since I have had the bike it has never been inside a dealers. They are a great bike mine is an 1100 and the 1200 is even better (30 bhp more) but you have to be wary of bikes built between 2008 and 2012 as they require the conversion to roller cam followers Www.griso.net has a lot of guy from the US who can advise re dealer support Mike
Thanks, Mike, for your quick response. I certainly agree with you about the simplicity of performing routine maintenance on the Griso, and when I was younger I used to do most of that myself (oil changes, valve adjustments, carb sync, etc.), but father time has taken a toll on my back, knees, and hips (I've been a motorcyclist for 59 years). As such, I now rely on professionals to do maintenance. I'm aware of the cam follower issue, but what is the issue on certain years where they kept blowing fuses for the starter? That seemed to be somewhere around 2011-2012. I do hope that Moto Guzzi will continue to expand its product line and bring us more great bikes like the Griso. Here in the states they seem to be focused on cruisers, which is understandable given the popularity of Harley Davidson and Indian in the U.S. market, but the U.K. (and Europe) seems to have such great diversity throughout the motorcycling community. Looking at your stable, it appears you have embraced that diversity. Thanks again, and ride safe!
Yes the flat tappet debacle affected all 1200s from 2008 to mid 2012 Not sure on Guzzis direction they seem to be going the Hipster route here in the UK with the V9 Roamer and Bobber I would love them to put a V9 engine in a V7 chassis and produce a mini Griso (I am not getting any younger and the Griso is a heavy bike) Feel free to look at my other videos I have just this evening posted 2 more riding round Wales I am off to the Classic TT at the Isle of Man tomorrow with the Griso so look out for videos of that in a week or so time Best regards Mike
Sorry just noticed that I didnt answer the starter issue, this in known as Startus Interruptus luckily I havnt had that issue but apparently it is caused by the cable not being thick enough and people have run new cables from the starter to the solenoid, it is well documented on www.grisoghetto.net Mike
To big for a first big bike for me but you can dream makes BMW ‘s efforts look sad on styling that is beautiful and the sound I want one 🙁😀 but I’m poor lol ide sleep with it
Hello Mike. Couple of questions; what exhaust canister is that, and does the Griso have a non-stock Map? It seems to be really well dialed in-- no popping or backfiring on closed throttle. It sounds like it is running really well. Thanks for posting, and any other info. Nice green countryside there-- ride safe.
Rail Roader Hi thanks for the comments, it is a 2007 1100 with a Termignoni running dbkiller in it came from the dealer like that. As far as I know it is on the stock map, I am planning putting in the "beetle" 1100 map but am off to the Classic TT on wednsday and dont want to make a drastic change until after. Since this video I have done a lot of setup work on the suspension, fitted renthal 755 bars and PR3s and have it dialled in for me the and it really flys round corners now. I like the griso concept so much I am changing it for a 1200 next year for a bit more power. The video was filmed in North Wales where we have some great Griso roads Cheers Mike
Mike Fry Thx for the quick reply, Mike. I have a '14 SE that is bone stock- runs fine but want to ditch the "howitzer" muffler. Looks like the Termignoni is just the ticket. You're off to the Isle of Man? Lucky 🍀 brother! Where the great Hailwood (and others) used to show how it was done! Just curious- what BMW do u have that u referred to in the video? The one that is faster than the Griso -- ?
Rail Roader I have a nice R1100S with a remus pipe and remap that goes very well its about 20 BHP up on the 1100 Griso. Yes looking forward to the Classic TT I go most years. I was at the TT in 78 when Hailwood had his big win on the Ducati
Hi Mark yes they are C-Bow and they work perfectly I have a termignoni on mine and it is fine, they aren’t the biggest panniers but they held enough (with a 20l stuff roll) for me and my son to have 8 days at the Classic TT this year (see my other videos )
What a beautiful machine
one of the best bikes ... the one that i can use and give it to my san after 34 years :)
I love my Griso...it's such a visceral machine.
The Griso is unique. My 2015 version is a :-) on my face.
what a beauty! truly unique looking. wish they make an 700 or 800 version of this.
ripmax333 they used to make an 850 Griso but they are quite rare
I know, i wish they re introduce them. the Breva was and still is a good looking bike too.
V7 Stone is close, though

70,000 Kms from new and I've had no problem with the clutch, other than I replace the fluid once every 6 months, which is an easy job.
