People have often criticized the Lightning for outnumbered retaliation on opposing players, but I personally think it shows a strong locker room. At least, in situations like this where it's called for.

Everybody forgets to mention Perry's 2 handed chop on JVR immediately before getting speared. Bad move by DeAngelo but I don't feel sorry for Perry.

On one hand he speared a guy in the jewels. On the other hand that guy is Corey Perry. Either DeAngelo gets suspended or gets player of the week. Could go either way. Put them both inside the center ice circle with sticks and no helmets and let the matter work itself out. Tell Bettman he can put some dynamic ads on the ice under their feet and we can see this play out by Friday.

DeAngelo's whole existence is a series of scumbag moves. Judging by his dad it may even pre-date Tony's existence.
He was suspended twice in major junior for racial slurs. He lost his job with the Rangers for being a bad teammate. Some people will never get it.
@@AEMoreira81 He definitely doesn't deal with adversity well. We all liked him when he played for Carolina, but he was on a team that won a lot and went to the playoffs. Philadelphia isn't very good. He was lucky he got another chance after the Rangers, but if he keeps doing stuff like this he will find himself out of hockey again. Sad

Mr. Hockey Psychology, why say it was a scumbag move? Corey Perry skates up and slashed Van Riemsdyk when he was down on the ice, then DeAngelo skates up to Perry and gives him the stick business. Did Perry deserve that? He sure did. Perry is known as a cheap shot guy, DeAngelo is known as a guy that plays tough and chirps alot.

All the cup does is lessen the impact and keep (hopefully) the testicles (I like big words!) from getting ruptured. Other than that, when that bell gets rung, you can't un-ring it. I have a good friend who found that out playing goal in a pick-up game we were involved in loooong ago. He was wearing a cup. He took a wrist shot to the cup from about 10 feet, so not a powerful shot by any means. The result? He laid on his face on the ice for probably 5 minutes, motionless (but making funny groan-like noises) before getting back on his skates, doubled over at the waist. Us guys, being guys, gave him a couple of shoves to help him glide off the ice to the bench. When he got to it (it was a very slow glide) he fell onto the bench and just laid there until the rest of us were done playing. He was still alive...so we weren't too worried about him. I will conclude this by mentioning that he got married but never did have any kids. Draw your own conclusions. There may or may not be a correlation.
I'm more surprised that the Lightning won a game.

With the way the NHL runs their player safety commission I imagine it's just a $1000 fine, no suspension.

So Tony gets suspended two games, when a couple of weeks ago Miller gets 3 games for throwing a lob in Doughty's direction. I can't figure Parros out at all. If you had a choice which infraction would you prefer to take, taking a lob or getting speared in your junk?

Just when you'd expect Tortarella to be angry at somebody he's the opposite. "Tony competes. I wish more guys showed that kind of spirit." Then he backtracks it because he realizes that the most volatile player on his team just used his stick to circumcise Corey Perry. Perry deserves it but Tortarella goes on to backpedal with "He may have crossed a line and I need to see the tape." Old-school guys always need to "see the tape" even though it's been decades since the NHL actually recorded games using any.

I loved watching his teammates getting his back or rather watching him get jumped by everyone the Lightning had on the ice. I don't approve of the spear but what did Perry do? Perry is the kind of guy who makes guys want to spear him. Also Maroon laying on top of DeAngelo kind of protected him a bit. Lastly the Flyers aren't bad they're terrible. (I am a Flyers & always wil be. It hasn't been easy lately & its staying that way for a while)

I've played rugby my entire life, and it bugs me when people use the word "scrum" to describe a free for all of players haphazardly pushing each other around. Scrums are like running a play from scrimmage in football. Each player has a specific role, there are set plays that are run from a scrum, and it is the probably one of the most highly regulated aspects of any sport I can think of. Sorry for being "that guy".

And Torts is like "love how he competes", what about a talented player with absolutely no character Torts? That gonna make your team strong?
