The Queen of the skies never disappoints. She gave a great run through all those years to the people all over the world. She’s so iconic and be-loved. The whale was truly a plane so majestic that many will never forget her.
So great to see so many people wanting to see the dramatic landing of a truly dynastic plane such as the Boeing 747. The sky is empty without the Queen.
So beautiful....I remember when KLM briefly had 747-400 service to Baltimore Maryland's BWI Airport...I would watch them come and depart with total wonder and pride that they chose my city to initiate service direct to Amsterdam.
The Sunset Beach Bar SXM has a live streaming web cam aimed at the beach right where the planes land. If you monitor their webcam and flightradar24 you can know when the planes are about to land. Really cool. Some planes come in very very low, especially the private jets and Sky High Airways Flight SHH972.
A few years ago we stood at that spot and take it from me, this 747 was quite high compared with some other landings. It felt as if you could reach out and touch the wheels when a really low one came in! Somebody said that the fences were actually clipped by the planes now and then!!! Take-offs were even wilder. Some folks were hanging onto the fence and being blown horizontal by the thrust from the engines. Fantastic! (I bet there's a video of that somewhere : I must look to see that again even if it will never be quite the same as being there).
You have got to be kidding. I work ground crew and i could tell you first hand you could seriously get hurt when these engines at]re at maximum thrust.
The Boeing 747 is such a beautiful beast of graceful flight, in this age of identical looking twin engined jets. The 747 puts the hulking A380 to shame... I will miss the Queen of the Skies sooooo much, long live the 747!!!
I enjoyed very much !! and we replay several times ;) :) . It was nice to search for the very very little spot in the distance ....... and to follow it till the big KLM-bird passes by for the last time ! thank you for the very beautiful movie !
Great video and thank you Maëva for capturing this historic aviation footage! Now for those interested, the 747 is not dead. The Queen lives on in 747-800F livery for air freight companies. I live in the north Atlanta suburbs and saw the last Delta -400 depart for the scrap yard a few years ago that my retired Delta captain uncle flew. All is not lost however as about three or four times a week I can hear a Cargolux -800F overhead at about 10,000 AGL departing to the north on climb thrust. You know the sound of a heavy and it never goes away. The 777 is a great aircraft which my uncle retired with, but there is no sound comparison to a four holer!
Snapper Organs so then you go, “well I guess you’ve never landed at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Nepal, huh?” Yeah. That’ll do it. And not to mention the plane is nearly as long as some older carrier decks, so THAT would be a great stunt for a finale. Land one on an aircraft carrier. Even if it’s (the deck) is modified lightly. That would be a sight to behold. If they could go out and find a really stable and strong headwind to sail into, the plane would have that much more air speed over the wings but less actual landspeed so it won’t require as much runway. Awesome.
The only time I went to St Martin was with my parents when I was about 11. We stayed at the Little Bay Beach Hotel and I loved looking through the window of the rafts at the angelfish. Our plane's engine caught fire coming from St Thomas or St Croix. I remember the flames, but my dad was a pilot for EAL so I wasn't scared and loved flying.
I cried and cried and cried. What an experience that these people will never forget. Wish I could have been there. The sexiest and most beautiful airplane ever built!! ✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

@@ohwell2790 unfortunately not true, a couple of weeks ago the pax fleet and px combi fleet of the klm 747 got retired, they will be sent into the desert to be scrapped
Maëva Roquebert it's simply dangerous because you increase the chance of having greater sink rate at that low of an altitude with airspeed bleeding off. Landing on the chevrons and piano keys is completely unnecessary for a runway that is 7,100+ ft long.
Allow me to give you my two cents. I witnessed an incident myself back in the 90s, when Air France was still operating the 747s in Saint Maarten. I was at the airport watching the 747 that was coming from Paris and that we would use later to go back to France, and the pilot missed the landing big time. The plane was flying so low that the tail hit the fence, we saw the flames and everything. Thankfully there was no further damage and the plane was able to land safely, but it got grounded for 3 days for repairs on the tail after the episode. I can tell you I was downright scared getting on that same plane after they fixed it, especially when some weird alarms went on mid-flight and the crew seemed to panic...Shortly after the incident, AF stopped using 747s in Juliana Airport.
Gary Wrong. Aerobus is selling fewer and fewer A380s,while Boeing's 747 sales have remained steady. The 747 is far more versatile simply due to the large number of variants available. Smaller versions, longer versions, passenger only versions, cargo only versions, combo versions, wide variety of engine choices. The 747s will still be flying after all the 380s are retired. The plane that is really selling right now is the 787. A gulf coast airline just bought 40 of them.
I'm betting that the flight crew REALLY ENJOYED the crowd on this day?! Always wanted to experience, seeing this happen, but could never afford to go there.
now I wish that happened when I was on my harmony of the seas cruise :( also tip, if your going by yourself on a cruise I recommend the harmony or symphony of the seas by royal Caribbean those ships barely rock compared to the ones I was on before probably because we got lucky and there were not any storms besides rain in the early hours when we got to our first stop (cocoa cay) doesn’t mean that you won’t get hit with rain or thunderstorms and things will be canceled not bragging sorry if you think I am just recommending the ship I think you should go on if your going by yourself
Yeah but the thing is, it takes the human element out of the 747. It doesn't carry people anymore. For decades, flying in a 747 has been a special experience.
Its amazing how insanely beautiful that was. Like watching the last space shuttle go up or standing next to "Big Boy" steam locomotive fire up and come to life again. Most people don't understand but obviously a few do.

@@swaggerific005 no they still use them for cargo
its a shame most 747s are being retired now, best bird ever to take to the skies
They aren't fuel efficient anymore compared to the dreamliner.

I thought it was the 727
They're not being retired for freight service - just passenger service.
