    Great job Ivan. Your field work was exactly what thousands of DIYers across the world are doing. Working with basic tools to troubleshoot problems themselves either out of sheer necessity or for the satisfaction of it. Well done sir and thanks!

    Reference high and reference low on O2 sensors are inputs to a differential operational amplifier before it goes to A/D converter. Any noise on both wires is cancelled out by amp, kinda like twisted pair wires on ABS.

    Nice to see you using the torque pro app I carry a reader in my car and it's been really handy it would be interesting to see how it graphs in comparison next to your verus.
    Whats the story with harness and attempted arson I wonder.
    I enjoyed the video👍

    Great video man my wife is from Ukraine and I always asked about the car in Russia. thanks for finally show me some the technology overthere. By the way the 3 yellow lights that couldn't figure out most likely will the abs motor that isn't turn it. I had fix couple of them already. You can buy the motor or just replace the bushings little hard to find but it is worth it.

    I always travel with a little scanner too. I tried torque a few years back but thought it was a bit too cobbled together to continue using or purchase. looks like it may have improved a bit though.

    This reminds me I have one of those blue tooth scanners. Used it on my 98 Frontier. $159 Mass Air Flow Sensor later that thing is still running like a champ at 166k. Anyway I just bought 2016 Frontier Pro4X. I got a little over 1,000miles on it. I should plug that in and get any useful info I can get while it is still new..

    Just as with a catalytic converter- I have seen a "poisoned" O2 sensor before, from prolonged exposure to a rich mixture and low octane fuel. The condition will make it "lazy".

    TorquePro actually has more features than the free version?

  • @theoldwizard998
    @theoldwizard998 8 років тому

    O2 sensors and their circuits inside the PCM are "special". The sensor actually "sources" a very small voltage. To more accurately read this small voltage, it feed into an op amp. To more accurately read the voltage they use a differential op amp.
    The voltage divider circuit that proceeds the negative input of the op amp is limiting the current to a very small amount (

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 років тому

      Cool! Can you draw up a quick basic schematic of the circuit? I always assumed the sensor "negative" was just a plain ground...maybe I was way off on that assumption lol

    • @theoldwizard998
      @theoldwizard998 8 років тому

      Google "O2 sensor circuit" and then click "Images" for some samples.
      Any sensor that "sources" its own signal (not using Vref) SHOULD be treated this way. This ks even more important these days with the new style sensor that give a continuous, analog voltage output.

    his car has to have some weird electrical gremlins as its one of the FIRST W163s with the M112 engines the 26th to be exact lol i have met the 137th and i wont forget that car lol

  • @JLafix

    do you think the old o2's was causing the stft to be at 20%? i am stumped on why i have 20% Ltft on vehicle that runs perfect with no codes, just high long term #'s, maybe worn o2's?

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 років тому

      A lot of causes for high LTFT...also depends if they improve under load.

    • @JLafix
      @JLafix 8 років тому

      it does go down under load, but just curios why that mercedes was at 20%

    • @williamwhite9767
      @williamwhite9767 5 років тому +1

      I thought that is an indication of a vacuum leak because the 20% came down to about 5 when revving the engine.

  • @nathanrspain
    @nathanrspain 8 років тому +1

    So after you figured out that all the wires had continuity and the sensors were grounded what made you come to the determination that the O2 sensors were bad? The signal pattern on the scope?

    • @QBallRacing
      @QBallRacing 6 років тому

      slow response on signal.. an o2 sensor should be able to have a frequence of ca 1hz

    • @glasser2819
      @glasser2819 5 років тому

      it's really weird that both O2 noses would be bad before their heater circuit broke.
      I guess they were replaced once by the wrong parts by someone who did not know to test the heater power harness.

  • @CALVINLNIKONT
    @CALVINLNIKONT 5 років тому

    You should label your oxygen sensor banks PS (passenger side) and DS (driver side) to eliminate confusion.

  • @soniccash1up
    @soniccash1up 5 років тому

    So, if I got this right, bank 1 sensor 1 supposed to go rich lean rich lean. Then bank 1 sensor 2 should stay around like 6 or 7 it should not act like sensor 1? So then it’s either the o2 or the cat is bad, correct?

    Was'nt the fire started during the winter in Siberia, to warm the oil in the oil pan?! It is common overthere as you know.
    Anyway nice diag. in the field.

    • @gtemnykh
      @gtemnykh 8 років тому +1

      No not quite. The fire starting is more so a heavy-equipment diesel engine sort of a thing, and reserved for more remote northern reaches of Siberia.
      In this case it truly was an act of vandalism!

    • @willemstreutgers1154

    wow ivan good case study of o2 diagnostics i guess a lazy signal can set a heater code kinda like a crank signal problem can set a cam sensor code like i said before if you take the time to do a paid channel and really go into these harder to master diagnostics and explain these processes like this i would happily pay like i do scanner danner for his premium channel i have quite a ways to go thank you from america lol

    i also use that android app,, torque pro... i assume u are using a full version ofmthe apps... u actually are able to check the o2 sensor by using the graphing, more accurate measurement there... and the response is much faster if u understand what i mean...

      u can see the menu at 1:22 on the left below is a graphing icon.. just sets to cubicle graph and set the sensors axis, looks for the o2 sensors

    May be you can help I've asked the heavy hitters on you tube no answer I have a 2010 kia soul it has 65k and what's happening is the customer came to me and said that the car is losing power on the highway so I took it it for a test drive and noticed right away upon deceleration the car has a miss or putter feel really quick at right around 2000rpms it happens in park or drive I also noticed with a quick throttle snap car makes a backfire sound now my findings it has a exhaust leak at the flex tube there's no codes 02 is perfect fuel trims great no miss fire could it just be the exhaust system causing that because I can't find anything else wrong

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 років тому

      Well first fix what you know is wrong and go from there. Exhaust leaks upstream of O2 sensors can definitely have an impact on driveability!

    can you help me with one more thing understanding amps I understand how everything works but this might sound dumb I don't get how a device knows how much amps to use so if you have I light that uses 1 amp and you replace that light bulb with a 2amp light this is just for exp. how does that work because the wire stayed the same and voltage let's say restiance changes but that just slows it down right. that's the only thing that gets me about the whole circuit also not good on using a scope I love working on cars it's my life and hobby.

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 років тому +1

      sure no problem! Once you get a good grasp of basic electrical theory, using a meter or scope becomes second nature, as you will know what you're looking for on the traces. The best way to learn is to do hands-on experiments and taking notes like a real scientist...it's fun! :)

    • @lovetolearn5253
      @lovetolearn5253 8 років тому

      No I don't have a scope I was looking at the hantec 1008 it's really cheap but the real reason is it sets the scope up for you so if you tap on injector pulse it already has every thing set up because I'm really lilliterate on a scope I think it's around 170 do you have any thoughts I'm just tired of buying junk but I really need to get this scope thing down before I move forward

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 років тому +1

      Scope auto settings can be helpful, but the waveform won't mean much unless you understand why it looks the way it does. Doesn't really matter which scope you start with, but knowing at least the basics of the electrical theory is crucial to use it effectively.

    When the short term is high during idle (+ number) but goes down as the engine rpm is high, you have a vacuum leak.
