    Maidened mine this past Friday after flying the Arrows Viper a month ago, the Marlin is perfect, take offs, landings, slow down with flaps. Flying 4 1/2 minutes on my Roaring Top 4s 3300 35c.

      I agree with your opinion on the Marlin. I had flown the Viper and the Habu STS. The Marlin is my favorite of the three.

      Cool Dale! It's a great plane, and solid flyer. Stalls are easy to predict, and flaps help slow it down nicely, PLUS enough speed to keep things interesting. Great mix of qualities for a beginner EFD jet!

    I knew it, yep I guessed that is how you "disposed" of your old lipo batteries. Safer then stabbing them with an icepick. Hehe. For a jet the Marlin has a huge easy to get into battery compartment.

      We used to use a nail and drive it through them into a board - we did it with welding glove and face protection, but it was still WAY more dangerous.

    Hi Brian, Thanks for addressing my question about the stand from the viper video. Sorry it dredged up a sore spot about putting a hole in the camera crews beloved sheet, lol.

    Brian, really appreciate all the time you guys took to video the forward programming. I'm close to finishing a build of a FT kit (Tutor) where I added both ailerons and flaps and am seriously considering an AR630 for the build.
    I'm a big fan of "SAFE" type technology as it has saved me many crashes on my two Timbers and my AeroScout. At 77 years old I simply do not have the reflexes that I had as a younger man. I'm advancing in doing the simple aerobatics, more so than I would have otherwise, by having SAFE to bail me out when I lose orientation or just want a little break from the advanced modes.
    Keep up the good work... both you and the camera crew.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

    There is indeed a very good tool - since coming across it I use it all the time , it is a combined metal (180Deg ) protractor combined with a steel rule - you set the rule to 90Deg on the protractor then put the flat side (Right angle made with the rule ) of the protector against the leading edge and measure back on the rule. it works 100% spot on.... only draw back I have found is that the type I have will only measure up to 150mm from 0. so if you have a bigger CG than 150mm from leading edge you would need to mark 150 and then measure from that point ... My make an interesting point regarding CG - I always install the RX first and then do the battery.... Love the Video, nice chat, Love the MARLIN ,

  • @lw216316
    @lw216316 2 роки тому +1

    This was my first jet. I got it because it was well under $200 at the time and because it runs on a 4 cell. I did not own any 6 cell (expensive) batteries at the time. Perfect for beginner jet pilots, nice and slow for beginner compared to 70mm jets.
    One warning (from experience) do not land on the nose or she will start to bounce and likely roll over and break her nose off. It is pretty easy to bend the nose gear. So try and land on the mains. May your skies be blue and your winds calm.

      It will help a lot. If a plane is tail heavy, especially in a hand launch, you will be screwed...but when you get REALLY good, later on, tail heavyness can be used as a tool...I sure don't do it...but sail plane pilots will do it.

    On my second Marlin and it is quite an awesome plane! I normally run it on a 2200 4S and it flies beautifully. The one time I put a 3000 4S battery in it it kept wanting to roll on me similar to maybe the problems you're having in the video and it barreled itself into the ground ( the reason I'm on Marlin #2 lol!) I would recommend sticking with the 2200 even though the flight times are shorter.

    • @snoriverrc3842

    Great Video, have my arrows Marlin right to my side and the 4s 2200mah Akkus ar loaded and the plain is ready to take off. Brand new for 120 SFr is like 100 USD or so. Like the Modell verry mutch . Think I will Testing this Bird whit a stability system. Until know I never fly whit gyro stuff. Think 3 minutes of full power on a 4s 2200mah for first flight will be OK? Flaps can't go up so be careful whit the flaps by programming, otherwise the Depron will brake

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      Sure - 3 minutes would be fine on a 4S 2200, I believe. Just watch your throttle, and keep sharp on your situational awareness toward the end of your flight... don't want to get caught at low altitude and get trapped into a bad landing aporach.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      It falls to one side or the other, but it's not the most graceful, but it's also not hard to read...you KNOW it's coming, since the plane slowly tips over. You just increase throttle, lower the nose, or run the rudder one direction to get the nose going down or speed up, and you'll be set! Easy as that...the Viper jet, while a lot better flying plane, doesn't give ANY warning...it just FALLS...at least in a power on stall...power off, like on a final, the Viper will just be cruising along, and PLOP, especially on base leg, when you need to make that final turn for aligning for landing, she'll slip right out from under you and fall into a violent stall....NOT so with the Marlin.

  • @ffjrichardson
    @ffjrichardson 2 роки тому +1

    I need help understanding the battery voltage issue you mention at the beginning, when you first go back insidie the house. The low voltage alarm is set to 3.3V and all the cells of the battery are indicating more than 3.3V remaining. Why would the low voltage alarm sound if hte battery voltage is set higher than the low voltage alarm? I'm really new at this so I'm sure that I am missing something that is very obvious. Really enjoy watching your videos!!!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      The reason I think I should have heard the alarm, is that when you load the circuit, like giving throttle, and believe me...I was...the cells should have dropped down below 3.3VDC. I guess, it's not impossible they didn't, but I highly doubt it. These EDF's are very high loads on power systems, so when you have an alarm setup like I did, it's not uncommon to have it alarm on TAKEOFF ;) But then the voltage "recovers" when you get out of throttle. It's kinda strange and seems somewhat counter-intuitive, but when you've been at it a while, these dots will connect pretty quick.
      Good luck as you explore into this more!

      Should be fine. The bigger battery, the more you'll have to guarantee you get it balanced on the CG...or the plane will get so nose heavy the elevator will basically not work right - then CRASH - so watch out for that, but otherwise, go for it - if it fits, it ships!!!

  • @user-tp6bt9uk6v

    Excuse me, will it be faster to use 2200mah?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      That won't make it faster. This measurement, 2200mAh, speaks to the capacity of the battery, not the voltage. The Voltage will make the motor spin faster, and thus make the plane faster. The measure you're looking for is the cell count, in SERIES or "S" - 3S speaks to the number of cells at 4.2 volts dc per cell in series or 4.2 VDC X 3 cells in series = 12.6 VDC. Where a 4S would be 4.2 VDC X 4 cells in series = 16.8 VDC
      So if you wanted this plane faster than what we did, you would add a Cell or more. This might require a new ESC that's capable of handling more power through it.
      Hope this answers your question.
