      @@michaelizquierdo6907 Jeff Gordon and Juan Pablo Montoya both crossed over between F1 and NASCAR and had success. They are so vastly different that its hard to draw any comparison. One comparison they both share is it has become far more about the car than the driver. You take a middle of the pack driver and put him in the best car and he will become a front runner. That is very obviously a very small engine, revv limited engine, or both. It may be a NASCAR body, but it's clear they have limited the crap out of it for these events. I read a review from a guy that did it and he did the math and figured he maxed out at about 115 mph, which would be supported by the fact they were running almost double the lap times of an actual NASCAR race where speeds would be closer to 200 mph. I suspect the suspension setup is also different than the real cars since they were complaining about their arms being tired when in the real cars the steering almost steers itself through the corners and they actually have to steer slightly to the *right* down the straights.
    So, I mean, do it if you want to, this is as close as you're going to get without decades of prior racing experience for someone to trust you behind the wheel of the real car, but be aware that it is a very limited and toned down experience compared to the real thing.

    • @lejink
      @lejink 6 років тому +67

      DerekSiems
      It’s a completely different engine tune
      NASCAR engines are set up to run at full throttle, if you spend time at half throttle it’s running too lean and you’ll burn up pistons n stuff
      An amateur would destroy a race ready nascar engine in minutes just by trying to cruise with it

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 6 років тому +151

      @@lejink I'm not sure you understand how any of this works.
      First of all, race engines are tuned to run ultra lean to get the strongest combustion possible, which DOES tear up engines quickly and why race engines are rebuilt so often.
      Second of all, running a race tuned engine at lower speeds would not damage it faster, but it also may not run very well depending on things like cams, the carb, etc., but nevertheless 100 laps at a slow/safe pace vs. race pace the slow pace would cause less damage and wear.
      Third of all, this is more than just a "safe" tune, this is a gimped engine that isn't remotely capable of real speeds, both Pumphrey and Nolan were flat out the whole time and ran almost double the lap times of an actual race-spec NASCAR. A real car with a real NASCAR engine just slightly detuned would still be capable of something like 35's at this track, this is just another level of detune to the point it's probably not even in the same family as the real thing. They do this because some rando off the street would kill themselves if they tried to drive the real thing, so they lower the power/speed to where a driver can't really exceed the limits of grip.

This sport is amazing as it not only requires stamina, lighting fast reflexes, and instincts of the drivers, it also requires incredibly fine adjustments made by mechanics and all backed science and engineers. I believe NASCAR to be one of the more comprehensive sports that is widely watched. Great video as always, glad to be subscribed and see three dudes not only enjoying the passion of millions, but also exposing those unfamiliar or resistant to it as well!!

    There may not be much to be seen when we compare NASCAR to F1 from the perspective of a spectator, but make no mistake, the amount of training the drivers go through may shock you. These vehicles have virtually no assists. Steering is very rough. So yes, you're making nothing but left turns on an oval with most tracks, but the amount of endurance and strength is huge when you're doing this for like 3 hours, much less when you're wearing safety equipment in what may as well be an oven. On top of all of that, you're racing with dozens of other drivers so close to one another at such high speeds. I'm not even comfortable parking my car within such a close proximity to a fixed object, much less driving that close to another driver at >120MPH! The level of concentration, endurance, knowledge of the physics behind racing, and absolute awareness of the dimensions of their vehicle to the very last inch is nothing short of amazing. I'll be the first to admit that watching NASCAR is not much of a spectacle (to me) in itself, but the amount of skill is something that takes years of training to master, and that is absolutely deserving of respect.

    I was fortunate enough to do this back in the day when I worked for STP. It is very much worth it if you get the opportunity! Things I remember: How tight the seats are and how hard it was to get into the drivers seat from outside - not trivial. How easy it was to drive this car on an empty track and knowing how much harder it would get at higher speed surrounded by other cars. The GRIP - omg how that car grips. Those tires are so sticky you can pick a quarter of the ground if you drove over one. How nervous you are going in and how excited you feel afterwards.

    Can everyone try to except the fact that it’s because that nascar is constant lefts for 500 laps with over 40 cars at 200mph that makes it incredibly intense. It becomes tedious when it’s the same thing constantly. But ironically every race you watch, something new always happens. And for me, that’s what makes it interesting.

      Deter Pinklage yea you are right they where never TRUE 100% stock
      But they where at least the same body frame and each car was slightly different under the hood,
      Where now each one is a tube chassis that is exactly the same no matter what brand is painted on, and everything now is so regulated that the engines are pretty much the exact same
      And when I mean everything is regulated I mean like they even monitor the length and diameter of the fuel lines coming from the gas tanks

    • @joshcorvette

      @@romulas-cushmanproject3273 Since 1965, they've been a hodgepodge of non factory engines, transmissions, rear-ends, floor-pans, k-members, trailing arms, and suspension components. The wheel bases for cars throughout the 60s to the 80s often weren't the factory length either, and safety concerns over the last 15 years are why a universal chassis is being used today. That universal chassis is uber safe, but it means the cars all need the same greenhouse and that really fucks up the design of whatever factory car they're trying to resemble. It isn't as easy as race prepping a showroom Camaro or Mustang like people think. There's a new car coming in 2022, and hopefully they can give the teams more options for using factory equipment.

    • @romulas-cushmanproject3273
      @romulas-cushmanproject3273 6 років тому +2

      Deter Pinklage I’m not saying we should have these guys going around the track in bone stock camaro’s, mustangs, and V8 swapped cameries but they should be the same shape that the cars are based off of instead of one uniform body with decals printed on to make it look like it’s a Camaro.
      But maybe have a universal tube frame chassis and have the body panels be fiberglass versions of the right car
      Just remember back the the super bird, or the 86-87 Monte Carlo areocoupes that where homologation cars for nascar? Yea the super-bird was weird as hell, and the areocoupe was just a MC with different rear glass and trunk lid. but it made the automakers think and do new things to improve where now if Ford wanted to change the design of the headers, it would take months of paperwork getting it through for nascar to approve a super small Change!

      DerekSiems they did it special for these guys normally there is an instructor, and it's about how you take the line, where you should be in the turn, how much throttle to give it etc, and normally for the NASCAR experience there's multiple cars on the track, so the instructor would be giving you feed back on when and where to pass and talking to the spotters to tell you where other cars are, you don't exactly have mirrors..
