Nice video for Montreal new-comers! I've used the 747 bus, it's easy and inexpensive. But I took the 747 that goes all the way down Rene Levesque because I was going to Rue Peel in Le Mille Carre Dore. You don't mention that this is another option. This one went all the way across downtown to Berri-UQAM.
@@thoughtsontravelandlife Hi, Dan... I just checked the STM website and it appears both 747 options are still in service, terminating at Lionel-Groulx or Berri-UQAM. I don't think you advised your viewers that the 747 bus is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. (Helpful for people to know.) I remember Lionel-Groulx metro station well from going to Marche Atwater.
hey just wondering so if I stay on this 747 bus all the way until the end it will take me to downtown? that's where I need to go when I come .. so just wondering it will make it easier since It is my first time.. thanks
Thanks, Dan. I'm heading over to Montreal on Friday and was wondering if the 77b was a bus or train as Google isn't clear. Now it's crystal clear how I will get to the plateau, 747b bus to Berri. Cheers.
The ticketing machines can have hours-long waits at busy times, especially if several of the machines are broken. The 747 used to be fine during the pandemic but now it is often way too cramped. People who wait to board the 747-O at Lionel-Groulx are often turned away because the bus becomes incredibly full. It’s because of these reasons that I can no longer recommend taking the 747.
So....I'm hearing it will be not until some time in 2027 that the light rail project to YUL (Trudeau Int'l Airport) will be completed which one can also take to get downtown once it is operational....once it's up and running I hope to return to Montreal. My first time was 2003 for my Honeymoon with my first wife. We had a wonderful time and I hope I can return in 2027.
Take the 747 at bus stop 60997. The airport has many buses: one goes to downtown (747), two go to West Montreal (204 and 209), one goes to Montreal North (460) and one goes to Lachine (356).
I saw your video. I think the last stop for the 747 is UQAM, the old Voyager Bus Terminal unless they made a change since I last visited. I'm going back to visit on Nov 4th from YVR and staying in Chinatown. I could use a bit of help and if anyone is willing, your Smoke Meat is on me. I'm going to be staying at Homewood Suites. If the weather turns ugly, I may just get off and take the Metro, the hotel is only about two blocks away. Now for all of you who might be in Montreal on Nov 11th, consider taking in the Remembrance Day Services at the Cenotaph downtown and also, watch for the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) marching up along Rene Levesque AKA" Dorchester.
Can you continue this bus into downtown? My location on Google maps I need to go to suggests to stay on after this stop towards my destination. Thank you for the video!
This video helps. I will need to get Downtown Montreal in May. Eventually, will find my way to Ste. Catherine Street. How long is the bus ride ? Is 747 Bus available after 1030 at night? Thanks for your video, Dan.
This is great/helpful, but what if you have a lot of large luggage? At other airports I've found spots to walk to where you can catch an Uber instead of an expensive taxi, do you know if there's a spot like that at the MTL airport?
@@thoughtsontravelandlife Oh perfect that's good to know, thank you. I know at some airports Uber isn't allowed so it can be hard to find where you're supposed to go, especially in Mexico. But you save so much money that it's worth it to walk a little further.
Why do all major Canadian airports have their three letter code begin with the letter "Y" ? For example, Montreal International Airport is YUL. And, Toronto Pearson International Airport is YYZ. etc.
Canadian airports had an original 2-letter airport code dating back to the 1930's. The 2 letters identified the weather reporting station nearest to the airport. When the IATA advised all airports needed to move to a 3-letter code, Canada made the decision to append the 'Y', meaning 'YES', that the airport has a weather station. Most but not all Canadian airports begin with 'Y'.
I thought about taking the 747 to the airport from Old Montreal at 3AM for an early morning flight, but ended up taking a cab. How safe and reliable is the 747 for getting to the airport for an early flight?
To be honest I would be concerned about standing outside with my luggage at 3AM. Montreal is relatively safe but every big city has people looking to take advantage of tourists. That's just my thoughts

My wife and I were nervous about doing this trip. We watched your video, followed your instructions, and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much.
Glad it helped! I have a lot more videos from Montreal if you're into that. Have a good one.
To go to downtown by taxi, there is a fixed price: C$48.40 during the day and C$56.70 at night.
Do you mean I can take any taxi by the fixed price at the airport?
I'm literally on the plane watching your video before getting there. Never been si unprepared
This video is perfect to travel to downtown Montreal. We did it this past visit, since it was our first time there. Great work. 😊
Thank you Dan! Now I have visual cues the next time I land in Montreal.
Glad it could help

Lionel-Groulx isn't the last stop of the 747. That bus goes to Berri-UQAM station in Downtown Montreal via Rene-Levesque boulevard
