Even though I despise zoos, I find this game very attractive. I'll simply pretend that the animals are slowly plotting their escape and placing the last animal in the enclosure actually means they have achieved critical mass to perform a revolution that successfully propels them beyond the zoo's carceral boundaries.
Thank you for your comment. I bought this game because I want to study game mechanics and art from nature-themed games and I was trying to find a way to deal with the zoo part for the same reason as you, and your approach will really help me.
I have just noticed the following rule that you didn’t mention and didn’t apply for “animal acquisition phase” rulebook page 4: “take either both of the animals depicted (…) or take any 1 animal of your choice”. I played it wrong and you did as well ;-)
Just watched through your uwe puzzlelaying series and totally agree that this looks the most attractive (great for more people and my kids) and think i will look into finding a copy soon!
I haven't yet played any of Rosenberg's polyomino games, but for some reason, this one seems like the one I definitely want to try out. It looks accessible but puzzly, with a great theme anyone can get behind
I preordered this for Christmas and I’m so looking forward to playing it after watching you play through. I really enjoy your explanation of the game and it really helps me to understand. Thank you 💖💖
You convinced me to buy this game! I got -1 score in my first solo play which I think is not too bad, looking forward to playing it with more people ;-)
@@BeforeYouPlay We've actually had the opportunity to play it with a few folk now, including a five player game. We've only played the full game, will have to try the variant soon.
I love that you are both wearing shirts with animals for this video, very thematically appropriate :) Anyway, good video as usual, thank you for teaching the game!!
Thanks for the videos guys ! I enjoy them and they help me find new games for my wife and I to play. Question - Do you or will you have a video going over your top overall picks? I know you have some publisher specific ones and the one about games which got you into the hobby, but I'd love to see a video going over each of your top 10 or 20 or so!
Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words, we are really glad we are able to shine light on games for you and your family. We are planning on doing a "Top" list about once a month.
Thank you for the tip. Boucht it and love it. So easy to teach, every game it feels like a close game 🥳. The puzzel feels great, and that for a player who did not like patchwork.
Always look for your gameplay and reviews. So clear and well explained and just think you two are such a cute couple! You and Game night are two of my favorites to always watch if I want to learn about a particular game. Thanks guys!😊
I thought about the shades of green also, but took into account how many squares that the enclosure tiles have. I figured that would help people determine the different tiles who would otherwise have trouble telling them apart.
Very helpful thanks. I find your rules explanations consistently excellent. Each word feels carefully chosen. I hope you plan to do a "Best of 2020" list. It would certainly help as we compile our own Xmas shopping lists. This one sounds as if it doesn't have quite enough "meat on the bones" to make mine own.
I love your shirts! :D and the game also looks beautiful. Just few days ago we have an announcement that it will be published in Poland (I know it is language independent but when a game is published by polish publisher then it is significantly cheaper then english version), but my only concern is that we already have Barenpark and we love it and those two seems a little bit too similar :/ oh... those board games dilemma :D I want them both but is it logical? :D
They play very differently actually so I can definitely justify having both in the collection lol. Yes it is always the dilemma! We’re happy that it’s getting published in Poland! Board game prices internationally can be quite high
Great video. Clear explanations of why you make each move. If it takes multiple acquisitions/ breedings to complete an enclosure, racing to get an 8-square rollercoaster, why not ignore acquisitions/breeding and just gobble up enclosures? Landing on 2 enclosures gets you AT LEAST 10 squares covered. Maybe even 14 squares covered. Thanks.
Thanks for a fun video :) BTW I think Monique forgot to do her bonus breeding at 43:30 (ish) although not sure if it would have made much of a difference!
Hi, thanks for the video. What's the disadvantage of bonus breeding something that's going to breed naturally soon? Wouldn't it fill up that enclosure faster if you did?
i don't know.... I still only enjoy patchwork and second chance (as a travel alternative). another poliomino type game I like are santa maria (dice draft!) and in the hall of the mountain king.
I just bought this for my sons birthday and can't wait to play with him. It seems right up his alley (also giraffes are better than zebras, that's just a fact 😉).
Very helpful tutorial... for some reason, I had my money on Naveen ;) Question on animal placement. Say I get a fox and penguin and place them in empty enclosure A and B, and consequently get 1 more fox and penguin from Barn/house. So now both enclosures have 2 animals each. Now can I move 3 kangaroos from enclosure C which already has 4 kangaroos to another empty enclosure D? So in same turn I moved animals into enclosures A, B and D? :)
Nice playthroygh, seems interesting how you can get a very small enclosure and abuse it for breeding. One negative - It looks like it's a bear to setup.
Hey thanks for this. I just got the game and wanted to make sure I was understainding the rules. I agree that the balance between knowing when to grab enclosures and when to breed is interesting. On the flip side, every game I've played of this has turned into a boring slog about 2/3 of the way through as it kind of did here. You get down to where you need to fill those 1s and 2s and it's just a slog to fill enclosures and grab attractions. That and the fiddly meeples getting knocked over in crowded areas sent this one to the sell pile after about 5 plays. All of his other polyomino games are better than this one. Cheers
New subscriber and loving your channel! Ordered this game after watching. You guys are awesome! I'm also a musician and photographer. Starting to play more games with my family of 4: Ticket to Ride, Just One, Sushi Go, Catan, Concept are some of our faves.
What do you guys recommend as a gift to non gamers who own mysterium and machi koro? New York zoo vs Gods love dinosaurs vs vanilla azul vs oceans We're trying to help them graduate to more complex games as they've expressed an interest in doing so.
I've really tried to like this one, but it just made it to my culling shelf. There's something about the rules that doesn't latch on with me and I've taught the game three separate times and each time we're all confused about the way that you add extra animals (the bonus breed) as well as adding extra animals when first adding an enclosure. It feels sloppy, not just to me, but to 5 separate friends.
this game looks nice. You should check out Zoo-ography. They have giraffe and zebra meeples :). Right now it is only on TTS but they are fulfilling orders now. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2103041405 There is also rhino, elephant, tortoise, gazelle, tiger, hippo meeples. No tree kangaroos which are awesome animals. Meerkats too. Their enclosures have to have concrete bottoms or they burrow out and show up in other animals enclosures.
Aww you guys! Thematic animal shirts!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Came here to say this!
Lol! We couldn’t resist!
Watching Naveen internally appreciate Zebras is everything! LoL
LOL!
You guys do such a good job explaining as you go! And you’re both so witty. I love these videos

Basically it means that you can take ANY animal in acquisition phase which may be very useful especially at the end of the game

Oh wow, he has a lot of good ones to discover, but yes this is a great one for the reasons you mentioned

Hope you enjoy it! Thank you for the kind words :-)

We really enjoy this game! Actually doing our written review on it this week, its been so fun.
Awesome! Glad you both love it! Do you play the faster variant for 2-players or the full game?

Thank you Sean!

I love how you both have on animal print shirts. 😂❤
I thought about the shades of green also, but took into account how many squares that the enclosure tiles have. I figured that would help people determine the different tiles who would otherwise have trouble telling them apart.
Yeah we definitely agree! Ultimately you will be able to count the number of squares.
Ooops I just realized thanks to your video that I've been getting rules wrong ha, thanks! Great video as always :)
I think this would be a great Christmas gift for my good buddy that volunteers at an exotic animal shelter! thanks!
Oh no way! I think you are right.
Excellent Review as usual, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I always enjoy the videos that both of you release! This one is fantastic too! Will you be looking into filming an Uwe Rosenberg series?
Possibly! He has quite a lot of games released so it may take quite a while to get through it lol.
Great! I have my copy on the way. Can't wait to try just rushing tiles and ignoring animals to see how it goes 🦒
lol! The teeter-totter balance is really interesting!
Appreciate your animal outfits matching the game theme 🤣❤️
I liked your "excusez-moi" at the beginning of the game !!! I am French that's probaby why !!! Great video, thank you!

Anyone else think she sounded a little like commander Data?
"I was able to participate in that breeding activity."

when acquiring new animals I read in the rules that you can either take 2 animals based on the picture or 1 any

Any idea how to get this game? Looks like it’s sold out everywhere, I’ll be super sad if I missed it! It’s so cute!

Which one do you guys think is better to play with two players New york zoo or Barenpark?

Monique and I read your comment and both agreed that Original Azul would be our choice,
Looks very cute what tile placing game would you recommend to buy patchwork, Barenpark, or new york zoo?
Which theme do you like the most?
I'd like to try this one even though I'm not normally into polyomino games in general.
You should if you get the chance :-)
Very interested in this game. Great video!
Thanks for checking it out!

Uwe Rosenberg games are the only games I can win against my wife. This looks like one I could sneak past her. Great Video!
lol that's hilarious!
The woden components should be called animeeples.

Oh nice! We will check it out, thank you! Also, that is so cute that they show up in other animals’ enclosures but it also doesn’t safe for them
