Thanks for letting me know! Yeah, I really enjoyed these and I've seen what the other three look like in person now so I am eager to pick them up. Shikon is darker than I thought, it's a lovely dark purple.
The packaging is really attractive. But I think I'll pass. I have several orange inks that come close enough for me. And I'm not a fan of ink barnacles. I'm curious about what Kuretake's Kujakuryoku and Kroshizuku's Kujaku look like side-by-side. And a comparison of Ebicha next to Herbin's Lie de The or Cafe des Iles and Iroshizuku Tsukushi. Just subscribed.
I have just discovered your channel and subscribed 🤓 If you feel like it I would like to see more of the Ebicha, for example if there is any shading in a wet medium or in a broad nib🖋️🕵️♀️
I haven't tried it personally, but I hear Platinum Carbon Black is the best of the best for artists. I have a video coming out soon about other "waterproof" inks, but they are resistant at best. Of those I will talk about, Noodler's Black Eel held the steadiest, but that is more gray than black in my opinion. I hope that helps!
the most waterproof ink i’ve ever used is noodlers kung te cheng, which is somewhere between purple and blue and has a very peculiar consistency. i use it in a pilot kakuno with an extra fine nib and that is the pen/ink combination i use for 90% of my note taking and journal scribbling. for the more standard colors, i’d recommend platinum carbon ink for black, sailor seiboku for a lighter blue, and montblanc permanent blue for a somewhat darker/office paperwork appropriate shade of blue.
@@theinkarchivist naruhodo. I didn’t know they are so available in the US. Love the name Ink archivist by the way…. Although real archivists use pencils more than pens 😀. Perhaps you are more of an ink curator. All good either way. Happy writing and recording. Aloha
Do you know of any sheening orange inks? Ever since they discontinued Sailor Apricot I've been on a hunt for a sheening orange, but they don't seem to exist. Kin-Mokusei seems to be identical to Apricot, but they removed the sheen for some reason.
I had never heard of a sheening orange before. I did some digging and Robert Oster's Fire on Fire is advertised as having red sheen. I don't have a bottle so I can't confirm. I would love to get my hands on a sheening orange so let me know if you try that or if something else works out :)
@@theinkarchivist Thanks, I’ll try and get a bottle of that. You should also try and get some Sailor Apricot. It’s one of my favorite inks. Though I haven’t been able to find any in a couple years so I don’t think there’s any more out there in the wild. Hopefully sailor will bring it back one day.
I have a bit of history with Sailor Apricot actually. I loved that ink when I started out but never bought it before it was discontinued. I've been trying to get it ever since. I did get my hands on a sample vial from someone and it is everything I thought it would be, just superb. One of my long term projects is to grab everything similar and do a full video on comparisons for that ink. People say Sailor Kin Mokusei is almost identical so I'll be grabbing that sometime soon.
@@theinkarchivist Yeah kin-mokusei is essentially identical. It’s essentially Sailor Apricot without the sheen. If you ever find a source of Apricot let me know because I would kill for a bottle lol.
Thanks for the informative video. Seems to me that kujaku-roku is screaming out to be compared to Pilot’s kujaku ink. Would you say they are similar?
I like the new comparison style. I picked up ebicha and shimashi-iro on a whim and I really like them so far!

Thank you so much! Absolutely, I have a pile of videos to get through but I will add that to the list!
Nice. What an expensive rabbit hole. I have drawing inks and need waterproof...What brands do you recommend.?

Lovely video. Did you get them in Japan ?
Thank you! I wish haha, I got them in a small, local art supply shop in the US. I do hope to go to Japan in the coming years though.
