Glad it did not end in tragedy. Being cold and tired would contribute to his confusion when being questioned. Also agree that anybody who jumps overboard for fun should also be sent for evaluation too.
When i saw the title of this video i thought it was somebody who had missed the boat and they were trying to swim to their cruise ship as it was pulling away from the pier.
Hey Donny....before you start criticising this avid swimmer, have you thought that maybe he had only had 14 out of his 15 drinks allowed in his drinks package and didn't want to miss out? 😂 maybe you should just ask Tony?
I think part of what goes into deciding if a person gets brought to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation is how they present/answer questions/etc., after they've been rescued: do they seem rational, do they seem sober, are they agitated, are they able to explain what they were doing and why, do they seem to continue to present a danger to themselves and/or others, etc.
We were on the Norwegian Jade years ago, and a young man jumped from a high deck into the Mediterranean. He was wearing a lifejacket, and we watched the zodiac dispatched to haul him out. The ship had at make a U-turn. He was amazingly uninjured. I asked my friend, a psychiatrist, watch she thought and she said it was probably a combination of excess testosterone and alcohol. He was booted off at the next port.
No to psych eval, rather ask him if he's booked on the ship. If not, then just release him and tell him to book a cruise vs try to get on a ship illegally
Funny we are in grand turk. The ship docks so close to the beach here I was thinking if I was on the beach and the was leaving I could swim to the ship as it was pulling out....
Listening to your story , knew psyche evaluation would be suggested. I’m a nurse. Know how someone in pain could say something like omg I could just kill myself but don’t really mean it. Those patients have to be referred to psyche. God forbid they attempt something; the staff/hospital would be liable. His response was not normal. Must follow through. Unfortunate if he was joking.
Really hard to try to think what this man might been thinking but no doubt he put himself in a lot of Danger. I just keep saying it's a crazy world we live in today.
Depending on where in harbour the fancy row boat with casino and restaurants was parked, the guy was perhaps only doing laps across as exercise with no intention to board ship, just reach it, turn around and swim back. It all depends on the setting and whether there was any other activity in area. It police commandeered a dinghy from a sailboat, it couldn't have been that "industrial" an area.
Thankfully that man was rescued and he gets the help he needs. Who knows maybe he wanted lunch at the buffet.
what a story. Thanks Don
Wow is all I got, hopefully this person gets all the help needed

I thought the same thing! 😮
So did I.
Thanks for the update…interesting story.
I hope he gets the help he needs
I’m glad he is getting evaluated. 🙏🏻
I agree Don. Something isn't right mentally when ppl do this kind of stuff. Wow....
He definitely needs to be evaluated!!
Just gotta shake your head at people. You are right some people need there head examined.
I like the idea of mental health treatment.

You can swim out pretty close to the cruise ship in Huatulco, it’s an awesome experience
To put yourself in harm's way for views does need an evaluation
Keep up the good work!
Scary if someone didn’t spot this.
How about that young UA-camr, who was kicked off the Allure, with his friends- psych evaluation !!
Hi Don, Boats, cold and sharks all not good.
I don’t think so either . People need to be checked out if putting themselves or others in danger for any reason
Yes, I am glad the police got him . Well, just what was he going to do if he got there????

Get em all evaluated something is wrong with them all
I agree, Don. There seems to be more and more of these sorts of "non-thinking" actions as time goes on. Or maybe we're just hearing about it more.
Where did this occur? Don't cruise ships often hang "Security zone" banners on the sides of the rails?
One guy jumps off a ship into the water for no reason, and now someone jumps into the water to swim to cruise ship, In the same week.
I'm glad he's alright

Don, will you have a follow up when you find out what the results of his competency is?
There seems to be no shortage of people willing to do crazy things.
Needs a mental health check

Sounds like he needs a competency evaluation.
The usual suspects!!!! STUPIDITY!!!!
damn....the sharks missed their buffet.....

some people will do anything to go on a cruise
Wow
No matter the reason, this person put himself in danger.
