    Ohhh I see what you mean. It's because self defense is a big focus, so martial artists believe there must be some attack before they can reply with attacks of their own. Otherwise, it's not self defense, it's just assault. So, in that case, if your hands are on someone like that, I can only assume that the best move after that would be to remove your hands from them and apologize.

    I've not seen an attacker stop after they grab your lapel, arm or head.. Polite attacks are rare.

      Did you listen or only watch? The point of the video is not about any specific attack, but rather the bias of traditional martial artists to typically consider themselves on the receiving end of an attack.

    Is it mandatory to wear white pyjamas to do any of these manoeuvres?

      Ian, actually my pyjamas tend to be rather more colorful - and preferably illustrated. This video clip was filmed teaching formal classes when in lockdown. We are wearing the standard uniform of our martial art type - it's called a karate-gi, or keiko-gi. I won't typically wear a uniform when engaging in personal training at home, so can say, yes, it's not mandatory.
