Seriously brother, this has to be the most easiest & well explained tutorial to something that isn’t always executed correctly by other tutorials Great job and you got a new sub.
I've watched a dozen videos on sidechains I'm abelton to teach myself and this is THE most helpful video i've found. THANK YOU SO MUCH i can't wait to get home and start adding this to my beat
Incredibly succinct. You are one of the few content creators who, when he says "let's get right to it," actually gets right to it. Keep up the great work, man!
Wow - great idea to check the kick duration in order to derive the correct release time for the compressor. That actually transcends the context of Ableton and allows people to better perceive how to dial in hardware compression. Nice trick
This is a beautiful video man thank you! I was having trouble making it subtle and giving my 808s that breathing motion without suffocating them, and the auto release with the gain reduction coming IN from the kick is what did it for me. Great stuff thanks dude
This is amazing. Thank you very much! Release, threshold and gain parameters were crucial for me with instant results. Excellent tutorial, thanks again.
Just a question. I'm using side chain on my mix as well as a pumper. I think the ducking is different on the pumper as it waits longer for the sound to come back up, where as on a compressor, you can control when the sound comes up. So, Is there any point using side chain compression with a pumper plugin, like the OneKnob pumper?
I do create a sidechain track as you do. Lately, i did the same settings(audio in&audio to), but when I'm done with recording kick&bass to a audio channel from the midi track, I put off those midi tracks and change the audio to&audio in settings and continue with the audio track that kick&bass glued and recorded together. But when it comes to exporting the whole song, that sidechain track's sound becomes more distorted and has high volume when I select ''Master'' at audio to section. It kills all the effects that processed. If I don't select ''master'' as audio to, that audio track(kick&bass) are completely not exist when exported. Like i never used kick&bass in the whole song. I export the song but every individual track can be heard except that sounds that I sidechained, recorded on a different individual track. I hope that you understood my problem and I need help. Thank you for the video btw.
@@2brownguys982 normally yes. Didn't quite give the background. I have some random stuff creating the drums, so separating them out would only work if I pre-record it... But might be the only option.
@@immersed.productions set it at zero and you’ll find the sidechaining to be more responsive Sometimes the knee can lose the transient of the kick when sidechaining so the bass bleeds into the attack of the kick. I think maybe that’s more of a 4x4 beat thing to keep things tight
This is the best tutorial ever!👍👍 Can you please make a tutorial aboute how to make sound like what is played here in 6:20 ? The human voice sample i mean. Tnx🙏
Great tutorial! Very clear and to the point. Thank you. This track sounds awesome by the way. Is there somewhere that I can listen to it in full?

wow thanks
Less than a minute in and this is already the clearest and most concise tutorial I’ve ever watched.
That’s how we do it
I didn’t know you can read how long the kick is . Thank you for the gems 💎
thank you!
This is gold. That's exactly the information I was looking for, thank you so much
Straight to the point. The tip about release was sick never even thought about that!
This is what I was looking for 30 videos later...Thanks

Thank you for this clear tutorial. I am a beginner in ableton (4 months I use it) and I am happy I found your channel. You have a new subscriber. 😃
THank You! 2 years later and still super useful
Probably one of the best tutorial on sidechaining kicks and bass... thank you.
thanks!
I cant believe i fund a good tutorial. l understand everything, cuz u made it clear🤝
GREAT tut! 💯
💣 Also, use the filter section to fine-tune the overall frequency you want to emphasize on the kick and de-emphasize on the bass. 💣
Hymn
thank you for showing us the manual way first. i got so much value out of this video. thank you so much.
best tutorial for 808
so glad it helped you!
This is the first tutorial on sidechain and compression i can actually keep up with!!! Thank u so much!!!!
Hell Yeah
nice man, well explained and very simple (what is missing in a lot of tutorials)!🙏
5:02 sounds like Mortal Kombat 2 title screen music! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great video. No fluff and straight forward
That’s how we do it 👊🏽
adding that movement to the musemic

thanks, got a q, if the bass and kick coming together, so you again side chain the pads and the melodies away from the kick and bass
Like I know how to sidechaining but how can we fix that clicking from the sidechaining
So very well explained thanks!
Thanks buddy! Crisp and to the point!
you're welcome!
This was super clear and helpful! Thanks man
my pleasure
phenomenal video
Thank you Great Vid. Very Useful advice.
You earned my follow and blessed the rest of my beats from here🙏

they pump different so just use whichever according to taste.
Excellent tutorial....thx
Great tut bro! much thanks
Thank you for this! Very easy to understand!
glad to hear that
Thank you for sharing!
amazing video!
Super helpful dude thank you!!
you're welcome!
Quick question ..
Should we eq kick ?? & Generally how much -db should instruments, kick and bass should be ?
Thank you
Don't need to eq the kick if it sounds good. Use a reference track to match the kick and bass levels
You explained this very well, thank you.😎
you're welcome
Very goog explayned thanks
Thank You for the video😇 It was very simple, accurate and clear. No bullshit #subscribed
Well presented.. thank you :)

Would be best if I can see a picture or video of what you're doing. Send us a message on Instagram @immersed__productions
Please tell me now you grouped all your instruments in your 808 track
select the things you want to group then press command + G (for mac) or Control + G (windows)
That beat though!
Thanks
Very helpful my bro
anytime
thanks!!!
Do I need a separate base drum track? My drums are in a rack and I can't figure out how to just use the base drum 🤔
You can duplicate the drum rack and then delete everything except for the kick and use that

Thanks this helped alot!
just tried this and my bass now has a little crackle and pop. how do i get rid of that?
must be unrelated, you can try noise removal plugins if you have some like Izotope RX
thnx bro helped alot
my pleasure
Thanks
thanks for the tips!! :-)
6:20 🤣🤣

Why do you keep 6db on the knee?
that was the default setting I dont adjust that

Thanks so much! That sound was from a loop I got from cymatics.
The track was clean and mean till I heard that part lmao. don't
Release is how long it takes to release AFTER the kick signal stops. This is wrong
There are 2 types of people: those who actually want to learn and those who just look for excuses
@@immersed.productions I agree and I don’t make excuses in the form of a video
@Rey Roar realistically he should be setting attack to 0.01ms and threshold to inf as well
@@dank5007they have deleted there commemts
@@dank5007Says who?
It sounds exactly the same with and without sidechaining
thanks
