Sometimes I mess up and accidentally play the same note on two different strings, I didn't know it could sound this cool though. I'll definitely find a way to make this work in my playing.

Playing the guitar for twenty some years I still haven't got the theoretical insight, but I definitely like what I'm hearing here! So Rick, if you're reading this, have you written any great songs that you you would like to break down for us? Not just the cords, but more like the whole process?
    Greetings from Norway 🤠

    I like doing that too.
Guitar and instruments like it are amongst the few that can actually play unisons on one instrument. So I like doing it, even though it's incredibly subtle haha. I'm not sure if anyone ever knows I'm doing it, but I know I'm doing it and that's enough for me lol.

Wait why not just play on the same string twice? Does it just flow better with your right hand?

    • Laws Savage
Laws Savage 20 днів тому +1

The difference in sound is small, but noticeable, at least to me. The notes sort of "connect" with each other a lot more than they would just picking the same note on the same string. It's the closest thing, I would say, to repeatedly playing a single note, but legato.
Your point about it "flowing better for the right hand" might be correct in practice, but in theory, I would think playing a moving line similar to what Rick plays here would give the left hand maybe a slightly easier job to do. If you were to pick a note on the same string twice, and then transition into another flurry of notes, your left hand would have to remember to stop for a split-second and then instantly start moving around the fretboard again, whereas if you were to do it the other way, your left hand would just have to constantly be moving, which might be more physically taxing, but is easier to remember than "move, stop here, and then move."
So no, playing the same note on the same string isn't wrong, but if you experiment with it, you may find that using different strings for the same note helps to give your phrases a smoother sound. I hope this helps!
