"Okami" is the Japanese word for wolf. Might be a good name for the Land Cruiser.
Luv to watch ya Luke! I'd much rather watch you brave the elements than drag my butt in the freezing wet snow wind and rain!

The Ippikio -okami ( The lone wolf ) -匹狼 here it is in block font. Before my retirement due to illness I used to be an artist. I could easily knock something up to turn into a stencil file. That is, if Luke likes it. It just seems kinda fitting a Japanese lone wolf for the vehicle.

I’m from Boone and I’ve hiked the Linville area several times. When I started to overland, my first vehicle choice was a Land Cruiser of the same era you got but they were so difficult to find. So, I purchased a 2012 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Special Edition for that purpose. I would recommend you upgrade the shocks on your Land Cruiser as they sound “shot” as your rig was not taking those pot holes well.

Just want to say that it's very much appreciated for the way you approach camping and life in general-reminding us it's the simplest things that truly matters. As someone who enjoys escaping to the Blue Ridge of Va as often as I can *and my hubby and I have considered an off-grid cabin like yours, seeing the easy way you take each adventure is so relatable. We are looking at options now for an RV as my back (and now neck) continue to worsen, but we will not give up our own adventures. Thanks, again Luke! It's so fun to come along with you.

I had the V6 version of the Toyota Landcruiser for many years in Dubai, and used it for desert driving. (The V8 was far to heavy on the front wheels, and could dig into the sand.) It had two fuel tanks with a capacity of 145 litres ( about 38 U.S.gallons). It also had provision for a second 12 volt battery if you were going to really remote places! An awesome vehicle with a solid reputation for reliability.

  • @SweZ10

You could call the vehicle The 442,
"Go for Broke"(442nd motto) or something to that effect, honoring WW2 regiment; 442nd Infantry Regiment (Japanese: 第442歩兵連隊) was an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment is best known as the most decorated in U.S. military history and as a fighting unit composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry (Nisei) who fought in World War II.

As for a name, it definitely needs a Japanese spin to honor it's past adventures. There was a now extinct Japanese wolf called the Honshu wolf, might be cool to try to incorporate that into the name. Hi Luke. Great find on the "TLC",,lol. I'd definitely replace the shocks with some nitrogen precharge coil overs. Not too bad on the bank but a great investment and longevity is there. I've offroaded for over 40 years and went through many of trial and error parts and mock ups. A friend of mine does dash backing overlays for all sorts of vehicles. He was in our club when I was in PA. His name as Azzy and does a great job. Can make them in white as most people want that upgrade to see better. I'm looking forward to what you and Susie do with this beast. As far as names; my wolf in a game is called "SKYWISE" as self explanatory. You have my blessing to use it if wanted. Now you can work for the postal service and do rural routes. It won't be any problem delivering mail. They all have right hand drive vehicles. I was stationed in Japan and drove a 1976 Toyota Celica GT. Loved it! Snorkel will do more than you think. Your air comes from the fenderwell where dirt is kicked up by the tires. That will dirty your filter quickly. The snorkel will bring in clean air from above the vehicle and will help the engine last longer. If you look at the military vehicles, they have a snorkel with a dirt/dust collector to catch the debris before it gets into the engine.

However, be careful not to run afoul of NC law on this which limits tinting to 32% and to not extend more than 5 inches below the top of the edge of the windshield or 5 inches below the as1 line on the windshield. People have been pulled over and ticketed in this state for applying tint that is “too dark”. It is silly but as you say “it is what it is”.

Luke, you should have gone all in and choose manual gears as well. :D Hope you have metric tools also. Haha! Not that you need them much with that car, but just in case. Have to say, you managed find nice Wolf Cruiser! 🐺Seems to be in good condition. 👍

If you swap the radio look at speaker upgrades too. Personal experience, in these old Toyotas the cardboard speakers they used to use will be dry rotted by now and sound awful.
Also Did you import it or buy it from an importer? I’d like to hear about the process if you have any insights. I need to ship my 60 series back to NC when I leave NZ next year.

hello, first of all thanks for the great content, one of the things that helps the most is adding insulation between the sheet of the car and the interior plastic, the best thing is that it does not take up space within the usable area inside the car.

As someone who overlands with a 35 year old Volvo wagon I would recomend changing all the fluids, you don't know when they were done last, and then changing all the suspension bushings and shocks and springs and the inner and outer tierod ends and ball joints. Those parts would smooth out the ride and eliminate a lot of the creaking and popping.

I'd start with a reverse beeper delete, then I'd recommend a 6" lift (with new bilstein shocks), 38" super swampers (with a full size spare), a rooftop tent, traction boards to level the vehicle out while its parked, a fire extinguisher, an mph sticker for your speedometer, a snorkel, at the VERY least, 7 lightbars, custom front and rear bumpers (brush guard out front) with a 12k lb winch, Lexus LS 400 performance exhaust, rock sliders, front and rear lockers, manual hubs, a hitch mounted toilet, Yosemite Sam mud flaps, an onboard ARB air compressor, curb feelers, a chrome accent kit from Advance Auto Parts, window visors, a cup holder, two 12" kickers in a box with a 1000w amp, a welder, a built-in overland espresso maker, at LEAST 47 stickers for the rear windows, an axe/shovel mount, and a minimum 180° awning. Just my .02.....🤣
As for the name.....call it GOAT (as in greatest of all time) and if you stand by your claim, it should climb like a goat too! YWIA (you're welcome in advance)!
*Hopefully by now you've noticed I given you some ideas with a bit of sarcasm sprinkled in (free of charge) for a laugh... *

I would go with either "the dog house" or "the wolf den". Cause you already have "the cabin". Both are small places to sleep. The "wolf den" keeps with the theme of the channel and the miles a wolf can cover in a single day. And the "dog house" would just be a fun thing to say when you're out alone. "Well it looks like I'm in the doghouse. Or Susie's at home and i'm in the doghouse again". 🤣
