My great great grandfather, his brother, and his father moved to Texas from Tennessee, bought a ranch and took part in building the capital building in order to pay for said ranch. My brother still lives in the original home site.

Thanks for the chili parlor coverage…it wouldn’t be right to not pay homage! ~ ~ ~ “Ol’ Scooter” in East Texas…

Love the ending with Gov Abbott and Chet signing off. As a side note, when I retired from the Army in 2009, I retired from Fort Hood. I chose to stay in TX. It is the only place where I have owned (well, have a mortgage) a house, and have no problem calling myself a Texan. When I retired, my chain of command somehow procured a Texas flag, flown at the Capitol building in Austin. It came with a certificate, with the signature of then Gov. Rick Perry. Perfectly folded. I have not flown it yet, I'm afraid of messing up folding it back up. Maybe someday....

I'm curious about the nice Western shirts that I've seen Gregg Abbott and Dan Patrick wearing, with the nice Texas emblem over the left pocket. Are these shirts worn by all the Texas capital staff or just some? I think it's a great idea, to have a Texas styled uniform being worn by our public servants.

My best friend works at the Department of Public Safety HQ (Highway Patrol) in Austin and he wears a shirt like those but with the DPS emblems.

Most Texas cities tend Democratic. Even if they are not as cute as Austin
Republicans still hold power statewide but feel safer inside govt buildings. Kirk Watson is a Democrat and knows Austin. Although I wish we had seen the Chili Parlor's Mad Dog Margaritas, mentioned in a Guy Clark song
The Bush sprout has moved on and our of a government career...
Abbott mostly lives in his own mansion and the Gov Mansuon is mostly a museum. His daughter has moved to California
