1300Hp BMW M3 E30 w/ 2JZ Turbo || Drift Run VS Grip Run

- Vidar Jodahl and his 2JZ-GTE swapped BMW M3 E30 were once again Star Of The Show at Osnabruck Hillclimb this year Pounding the tarmac into submission with its outrageous power and torque, at a grand total of 1306Hp/1578Nm (!!!!), this time there was another very interesting angle as unlike last year, the Norwegian driver did not limit himslef to perform Drift runs, but also some proper runs focused on achieving the best time possible.
This opened up a lot of very interesting comparison points and in some ways a proper display of how different both types of driving are, as well as display how such a wild machine had to be explored in order to extract maximum cornering speed opposed to when it "simply" has to go sideways. Different Rev ranges are used, different lines are taken and a much smoother touch is required. But better than any explanation, is the footage shown, alongside the times achieved.
About the machine let´s just remember the kind of "animal" we are dealing with here. At the heart of this unique ( and for some quite sacrilegious.. ) BMW M3 E30 unit is this 2JZ-GTE 3.0L, Inline 6 engine unit, famous for being the motor powering the iconic Toyota Supra, and here strengthened with forged pistons and rods from Powerhouse Racing and a set of billet main caps, while also benefitting from better flow thanks to porting of its DOHC 24-valve cylinder head.
All this coupled to that massive Garrett GTX-42R Turbo. At 3 bars of boost like this Monster ran on the final day of competition at Osnabruck, the Power and Torque figures reach the outrageous numbers we warned you about in the beginning. It´s 1306Hp/1578Nm... let that sink in...
Thats a dangerous car.. Drift mode is absolutly insane! Pilot is a beast!
So it has a better power to weight ratio than a Koenigsegg One:1... that's crazy... definitely a Hillclimb Monster!

But it is cooler than that, it is not official freshener, it is custom made to represent Finnish hard mint liquor. Bottle is same color with same font and color and ofcourse it is in finnish like the bottle.

1:34 The best technical feature in this car , is the Wunderbaum. It´s for avoiding the rubber smell and it also shows u the G-forces.

I allway say jz engines are bulletproof but the supra hasn't got a good chassis for any kind of races
Well the E30 chassis does not handle that great with a 2JZ. It is a rather agile and dynamic chassis for light engines and moderate power output but the 2JZ is not that smart in this car. It destroys the good weight distribution of the car, makes it really nose heavy with its heavy durable design and all the turbo stuff like intercooler, piping etc.
E30 rear suspension design is not ideal for high horsepower, either. I say that a Supra or Chaser chassis can handle a pumped up 2J way better than an E30. The whole car is not meant for racing, neither the Supra, nor the 2JZ engine.
E30 would work well with a Euro-Spec M52B28 aluminium engine from E36 328i in my opinion, pretty light N/A six cylinder with just 168kg.

@@pest5373 The Forza Edition E30 M3 (the widebody one with the big wheels and ugly paint job) comes with a 2JZ and goes up to something like 1300 hp in Forza 7.

this is so beautiful to watch - thanks for sharing. What a car and driver!!! Most impressive is that this "drift" run was done obviously with grip setup, loads of torque, talent and big balls made of steel. Didn't look like drifting with drift car for sure. Car is so powerful that acts on tarmac just like normal cars on snow 😍😍

No way could he use all that power in a grip run, but I see in the description he ran lower revs, which I guess is almost the same
To ensure maximum traction the rev range used wiuld always be different, but yes, a very different approach. Hence why we thought it´d be interesting to compare the two ;)

Suspension definitely needs more fine adjusting and adjustments, car is great overall though, no other e30 like this one.
Maybe but he uses it in so many different events and for different purposes he might just have it set up so he doesn't have to change springs between events

I wonder whether the car has less power on the grip run or just traction control/smoother pedal control.
i'm gonna go out on a limb and say there's no breaks on this thing. Instead, to slow down, one merely pitches it sideways and buries the gas pedal.

Would like to know the power/torque on the "grip setup/map". What a beast!
Not disclosed but we would guess a lighter map with around 700 to 800Hp. Which is quite crazy to say when one thinks about it...
I would bet on the grip run LSD is setup so it wont lock that hard on corner atleast seems like it. Thats the biggest comparison.
