My 12T has been abused and rebuilt a number of times. Still fishing like new! These older Penn reels are tanks and impossible to kill!

I have a friend that fished tournaments from anywhere from Miami to down in the islands, he had enough Penn Senators set up with all the gear that cost more then my new 84 truck, I mumbled something about him being crazy. He said after, entry fees, fuel , crew, etc. he wasn't going to lose a fish over a cheap rod and reel. These are the reels other reels want to be when they grow up. built for serious fishermen

Well said. I have a similar approach when I tell folks to change the line at least annually. Why lose a fish to a break off when the replacement line is a fraction of your total costs for the trip

Dennis, when I was younger I would have loved to fight a big fish with this reel. Great video of a timeless trolling reel!

I made a de-spooling rack using a 114h to pull my line down after each use. I clean the spools, then I can pull the line back on under drag so it's spooled tight. A shot of Penn Reel cleaner is safe to spray on the line to remove the salt when I respool it
I get a full season out of my mainline and only replace the top shot each use

    Hi Dennis!
The Penn International II 12LT is the third version of the 12 pound class International. The only real changes were going with the plastic tip on the lever drag, a stamped reel foot instead of the cast stainless steel foot, the bridge was changed to mimic that of the larger International's and a increase on the drag pressure. I believe this change was responsible for the increased drag pressure.
I've found that to keep the drag from getting jumpy, (you can smoke a drag with a large fish that runs) that the drag washer should be lubricated with Cal's Drag Grease.
The other thing I do reels are to apply grease between the side plates and main body, and apply grease to all of the screws including the reel foot.
Penn incorporated most of these changes to the newly at the time, 16S two speed reel.

You can load it up and go heavy if you like - Most use 65 pound, but you can go higher
